“A gem in Ancient Rome”
Reviewed June 23, 2007

My wife and I, celebrating our 60th birthdays in Europe, spent 4 nights at the Hotel Rosetta in mid May 2007. We had room 7 which was on the 2nd floor inside corner, just above the most wonderful little restaurant one could want. More on that later. Our room , average in size compared to our previous 10 days in Paris, Florence and Sienna, included washroom and shower was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had two windows overlooking the small streets below that gave a intriguing look upon Italian life passing by. Any street noise was shut out when the windows were closed. The price was very low compared to other offerings when we were booking, but worth double. The location was a few minutes walk to all the sights of ancient Rome. The only public transport, buses just outside the main doors, we used was to go to the Vatican/ St Peters, and to the train station on our leaving. It is amazing close to everything and so much more.
The staff at this hotel were wonderful. It is family run with some help. Special kudo's to the young daughter, ( we apologize we do not remember her name) and to Gianni. They spoke great English, as compared to our Italian, and were willing and able to provide any information and suggestions to assist our visit to Rome.
The restaurant downstairs. At the recommendation of Gianni, we tried this wonderful place the first night we were there. Sufficed to say we were impressed. This was Italy!! We tried a different location the next night, but came back the next two nights. The meals are wonderful, staff are great and they serve a wonderful red wine. Our meals were long, delicious, entertaining and the whole bottle of wine later, it was only a few steps home!
We would most definately recommend this hotel to anyone wanting the Rome experience. We will be back for sure!!

We have just returned from a wonderful 1st trip to Italy and intend to return again much sooner than later.
Spend 3 nights at the Hotel Rosetta, Via Cavour No 295, Roma at the recommendation of a friend.
The hotel is family run and the location is terrific. A 5 minute walk from the Colesseum, The Roman Forum, the magnificent Military muesem, close by is the Via Del Corso which has fantastic shopping to suit all tastes and on route there you can view the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, even cross the river to the Vatican. The food is simply the best.....wonderful!, and the waiters are impeciable and so gracious at all times. The restaurants and cafe's are spotless.
The Hotel Rosetta is very central, clean, comfortable and very reasonable, ask for a room overlooking the courtyard, it is less noisy but then all cities are noisy.
The owners are charming and very friendly and always available be it for information or advise or to order a taxi.

I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere nice and safe to stay in a busy city, central to all locations & some fabulous cafe's and restaurants and there is also an Irish bar close by called "The Surge" if you tire of the vino!

Hotel Rosetta and Rome are wonderful!
See you again soon.

We are a family of four - two adults and two children- who haved stayed at the Hotel Rosetta for 3 consecutive years in the October half term.

October is a great month to visit the eternal city as it is not too hot but the weather is sunny and pleasantly warm.

The Rosetta is an absolute find as it's location is so hard to beat for the price. You are within easy walking distance of major attractions such as the Colosseum and right next door to the Forum.

The Hotel is a small family run establishment and they have always been friendly and eager to please- looking after luggage on check-in and checkout days, arranging taxis etc.

The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable with a TV and telephone. There is no safe in the room but staff happily take care of your valuables in their safe at the check-in desk. All staff are absolutely fantastic and try their best to help with whatever query you might have. Gianni gets our special recommendation as he is always so kind and patient with the children ( and us!)

The room is cleaned and tidied every day to a high standard and fresh towels and toiletries provided. ( Though if you wish for designer soap/shampoo or you have very sensitive skin you had better bring your own).

There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms and if you are facing onto the busy Via Cavour it is noisy from the traffic which does not seem to abate even at night and if you have to open the window to get some fresh air it is even louder.

Breakfast is not provided, but there is a great little cafe ( turn left from the main door onto the Via Cavour and walk up a little way) that serves delicious cakes and pastries and even coped with our poor grasp of the Italian language to give us hot tea complete with hastily improvised tin foil lids!

You are lucky to have two great restaurants within a minutes walk- the Taverna dei Fori Imperiali (Via Madonna dei Monti, 16) which serves gorgeous food, including pasta that I continue to dream about- at very reasonable prices. They are also extremely friendly and accommodating to children.

There is another restaurant in the same block as the Hotel ( I'm sorry but I do not recall the name but Gianni will give details-turn right from the main door that opens onto the Via Cavour and then immediately right again and walk to the end of the hotel block and the restaurant is on the corner). This restaurant is always packed with Italians and you might have to queue. The guy in charge seems a bit grumpy but traditional Italian dishes are served swiftly with the minimum of fuss and are very tasty and excellent value with the added bonus that after a hard day pounding the streets of Rome you do not have far to return to the Hotel!

As for the sights of Rome they are just too numerous and wonderful to mention, but the location of this great little Hotel means that they are all virtually within easy walking distance without you being charged an exorbitant price for the privilege and convenience and it is a convenience to be near The Colosseum, The Baths of Caracalla, The Pantheon, The Forum, Palatine etc etc. These sites can all be visited from the Hotel without use of any public transport ( though this is too easily available).

We loved the Pantheon, The Trevi Fountain, the Turtle Fountain, Giolotti's (which has a complicated system for purchasing the most mouthwatering gelati I have ever tasted-you pay at the till before going to the ice cream counter to choose your flavours and the waiters can be rather rude and do not tolerate any indecision), the sunday market in Trastevere,Parc de Borghese and the art in the Vatican ( do not miss the Caravaggio's in the Church bordering on the Piazza del Popolo) the slices of fresh pizza, authentic Roman fast food, I could go on and on but really Rome is simply stunning, there is so much to see and appreciate that a trip lasting a few days does not give you enough time- Rome really deserves all the superlatives ever written about it- the number of ancient and historical sites at virtually every corner means that it is a stunning city to visit.

We look forward to our next trip to Rome and will certainly want to return to The Hotel Rosetta which we cannot praise highly enough.

We stayed at the Hotel Rosetta for 3 nights in February. If you are looking for a way to experience Rome for
under a 100 euros a night (which is really a rarity in Rome), we'd recommend this place as a viable alternative.
We couldn't been happier with the location---super convenient to all the historic center's sites, (literally 5 minutes walk to the Colosseum and Forum) plus the Colosseum and Via Cavour metro stations are both within a 5-10 minutes
walk. Sure, the hotel itself was absolutely no frills with dorm room decor, but it was very clean and safe. It was friendly and family run, including the 97-year old grandmother who looked after our luggage on the day of our departure. Our only strong piece of advice: request an inside room when booking
to avoid street noise from the busy Via Cavour.
The neighborhood also had some authentic and hidden gems of eateries--we ate at Taverna Romana, Alle Carrette (the best pizza we had-great thin crust), and Maharajah Indian Restaurant on Via Serpente. All were local places, reasonable prices, and excellent food. Rosetta didn't serve breakfast but recommended the
pasticceria down the street, which had scrumptious pastries and coffee.
