This hotel is located in a very convenient and pleasant part of Rome. The building could use some renovation works but the 3rd floor, where the hotel is situated, looks and feels brand new. The elevator is also new and in perfect working condition.

The room was very clean and neat, the bathroom was surprisingly spacious and also very clean, the a/c was working perfectly and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The limited use of wi-fi (accessible in the reception&breakfast areas only) is the reason I don't give this very good value-for-money hotel a perfect rating.

Other issues like the basic breakfast menu (which was OK for me, if you need more just go to the pizzeria across the street which is absolutely amazing) or the firm matresses (which is a matter of personal taste) were trivial for me.

One last thing was the visitors' municipal tax (2€ per person / per night). This must be something new because the staff was not very experienced in handling this well. First of all I thought it was included in the price, it was not. The staff just placed a notice on the entrace door which I was supposed to pay attention to. I did not. An informative talk during check-in or a copy of this new law placed in my room's door would be enough to save me from the trouble of searching for money at 6:30 in the morning while checking out.

All in all this hotel is highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy quality standard facilities in a nice part of Rome. Go for it!

A really good hotel! Clean, happy and tidy :) Had a good breakfast as well, people there were nice and friendly and it was a good distance from the main parts of Rome. Good distance for a nice walk in the evening and not worry about when to get back. Also had good restaurants around, and had a near by pharmacy. :)

A short walk or bus travel from all the great sights in Rome, Via Del Corso, Coliseum, The Vatican you name it. Reasonable and very comfortable. Just like flipping a coin into the Trevi Fountain, I'll be going back there someday!

We chose this hotel, because we read only good things about it + it´s easy to walk to the all tourist sights. And this hotel suited our budget as well ;)
We didn´t knew Rome before, so it was quite hard to plan the trip, but I´m glad we chose this hotel, because it was so easy to walk everywhere. This hotel is on the Via Genova-street, which is close to Via Nazionale, one of the shopping streets.
I can recommend this hotel, but as other people already mentioned, the breakfast was a bit poor, just some sweet cakes and rolls, juice, coffee (good!), cereals, canned fruit salad.. I really missed some vegetables, and some of the tourist had some vegetables with them :)
This hotel is on the 3rd floor and when we were there, the lift/elevator was broken..
The room was clean and the personal were friendly. When we left we had to pay for city tax (2 e/night x 2 person). Not that much, but beware of that in Rome.

Positives - great location, staff are friendly, breakfast is good, rooms were good and bathrooms were even better.

Negatives - Hotel is an ex large flat therefore 1 corridor for all rooms which means you hear the maid early morns and people getting back late, fan outside which causes some noise, lift is not working.

We are a couple, so the noise from fan and people coming back late only annoyed us 1 night - the rest of the night we were out late anyway. If I was booking another trip to rome I would try somewhere else but it is a good place to stay for a couple of nights - we stayed 5 nights.

What can I say! Hotel Galatea was fantastic! We got a shared taxi from the airport to the hotel, costing us 25€ each and the taxi found the hotel easily, it is clearly signposted from the street. Walking through the courtyard on the left hand side is the stairwell to the hotel, we knew the lift would not work, but the sheer age of it put us off and we always took the stairs (when we left they were on repairing the lift!!).

Checking in was easy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel and room was very clean and modern and housekeeping came daily, changing the bedding and towels. Breakfast was very basic and consisted of a coffee machine, cereal, bread, cake and fruit, but we skipped it most days, opting for a sandwich while out.

The location is superb, and although all major sites are within walking distance, we decided to get the city sightseeing buses. There are some wonderful bars and restaurants along the via nazionale, our personal favourite being ristorante del giglio, not far from the opera house. You cannot miss the staff in red blazers and bow ties, and can pick up a very tasty meal for a great price.

The hotel is basic, but clean and modern. The staff are very helpful and the location is great. We would definitely stay again!

Great location, we walked to all the major tourist sights, got the metro to the vatican.
Metro station is close by. Rooms were nice and clean, beds were a little hard. For breakfast there was on a coffee machine, some juice and a few cakes and rolls, and some fruit salad, nothing warm or home cooked.
Staff were friendly and help full. Not good if you don't like stairs.
