Stayed here in February with my wife for 3 nights. While the location is great (right off Via Nazionale) the hotel itself is a bit tired. The beds were rock hard, and the sound of the outside extractor fans / air con units made sleeping rather unpleasant. The price is cheap though, and the rooms are clean, so if you're not planning on sleeping much, this is a good spot. You have to try the pizzeria Est Est Est down the road, best pizza and homemade wine I've ever had!

Hotel Galatea was the perfect location. We navigated through Rome to find this hotel from the train station. We walked absolutely everywhere from this hotel - the spanish steps, trevi fountain, the Colosseum, and even to the vatican! Location wise, this hotel gets an A++! The service was okay - not outstanding but no complaints about it either. The breakfast was great, although seating was a bit of an issue (it was very small), the food and cappuccinos were delicious. We enjoyed using the espresso machine and helping ourselves to the cereal and croissants. The entrance to the hotel was a bit hard to find, it is located through a huge wooden door and a courtyard, which once found, is very cool. The room itself was extremely clean, and the bathroom was to die for... STUNNING. It was clean, comfortable, and huge! It was luxurious, and after a long day of walking in the Rome heat, the shower was amazing to come back to. The AC worked very well too! We will definitely be staying here again!

Stayed 3 nights, the room was comfortable and was nice of the front desk to upgrade us to a big room. Bathroom was big and neat and had wonderful shower panel.
The hotel is concealed in an old an deserted building whose lift starts from 1st floor which is 30 steps away. The Lift is minutely small and accommodate 2 persons and one suitcase in a straight line. Beware, if you are carrying big and heavy suitcases.
The staff, just 2-3 persons, all smiles, but are not very helpful. They can politely refuse or show their inability for any favour asked. The Wi fi did not work at all and no attempts were made to restart it which was very unprofessional. Breakfast was very minimal. Location is fairly okay with walking distance from republicca metro station and next to major road Via nazionale. Mini Market just opposite the hotel was helpful. Overall, good rooms, neat and clean bathrooms, but the approach is not very nice.

Room Tip: Take the corner rooms, they are bigger.

This is a pretty good hotel--- walking distance from Rome Termini, but a bit far from "old Rome". (You can take the bus quite easily.) As someone else mentioned, it is hard to locate...through an inner courtyard and up three flights. You have to walk to the first floor and then take the elevator. The elevator can be a problem if others haven't closed both doors! The hotel is nice... nice firm beds, nice bathrooms, air conditioned and quiet. The breakfast is no big deal. Overall, the hotel is a good value and I'd go back.

I stayed here for three nights. My room was comfortable, breakfast was the standard Rome continental breakfast. There was a balcony area overlooking a light well, accesible from the breakfast area.
It was a little difficult to locate, as its entrance is through an large arched doorway into a courtyard, and then on the third floor. The concierge on the ground floor spoke to me about the lift, but I didn't fully understand, and lugged my suitcase up the stairs. The secret is that the lift (as at April 2012) operates from the first floor upwards, not from the ground floor. The hotel could perhaps put an explanatory notice at the bottom of the stairs.
The location is excellent - about 10 minutes walk from Termini station, and, more importantly 2 minutes from the bus stop on Via Nazionale where you can pick up the 64 bus for the Campidoglio and the Vatican. It also stops at Largo Argentina where you can get a bus or tram for Trastevere.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in a double. It was a spotless, no-nonsense room with a comfortable bed, safe, wall mounted TV, and bathroom with bidet, impressive power shower and wall mounted hairdryer. The hotel is situated in a quiet sidestreet, but only 10-15 minutes walk to the Termini station, Colosseum or Trevi fountain. There is a lovely local restaurant down the street to the left, and a mini market/bar across the street for essential provisions such as chocolate or Peroni beer. Reception staff were helpful and polite, offering maps and travel advice, breakfast was a simple self service continental start to the day of sweet breads, cereal, fruit cocktail and coffee. One thing to bear in mind - there are 91 steps up to the hotel, and the lift only operates after climbing 30 of them, although having conquered the top of St Peter's basilica this wasn't a major problem for us! Would recommend as a good base for exploring this spectacular city.
