“Terrible service from Hostel Beautiful 2”
Reviewed October 19, 2008

My friend and I booked to stay at Hostel Beautiful 2 several months back through HostelWorld. Everything was fine with our reservation up till a fortnight before when Doreen emailed to say they had overbooked and transferred us to Hotel Luella, in a similar location and one of their 'sister hotels' - three hotels owned by the same company. We had booked 2 twin beds in a dorm. We arrived at the new hotel to find they didn't have a dorm at all, and they only had rooms with a double bed. while my friend and i don't have an issue sharing a bed - it was unacceptable given we had booked well in advance and they couldn't offer us what we wanted. in addition to this, we were taken out of the main hotel, into a dark side street and up into what looked like a private residence and shown yet another double bed room. we didn't feel safe and the man on reception was unhelpful. we ended up demanding our money back and had to go looking for a hostel at 11pm in Rome! Very scary for two young girls backpacking. i would not recommend booking Hostel Beautiful 2 or Hotel Luella!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible service, unhelpful, and the person on reception made snyde remarks about the length of stay we had in rome.

We stayed here last month, for one night. This hostel is great. Remember, it is not a hotel, so if you expect it to be, you'll be disappointed! It must have improved a lot since the other reviewers were there because none of those things were a problem for me.
First of all, the area around Termini is not that bad. It is convenient and I never felt unsafe.
The staff at the hostel are very friendly. They even had free drinks!
The rooms themselves were good. The bathroom, which was to be shared by the 4 girls in our room, was very nice and looked like a fancy hotel bathroom. At times it smelled slightly like sewage though, but it really wasn't that strong or bad.
The rooms were clean and the beds were made when we got there, and we didn't have to strip our beds at the end like most hostels. The guy at checkout even carried our bags to the room.
Like I said, there were 4 people to a room. The beds were really close to one another, but I was glad that they were not bunk beds- this is much better. There are no lockers to lock up your things but because of the general friendly nature of the hostel I had no concerns about safety, and there were no problems.
Included with your stay is 1/2 hr free internet at a nearby laundromat.
Breakfast was alright- better than most hostels.
The hostel is way up on the 5th floor or something- there is an elevator but you have to enter from the side entrance- you get in by buzzing them and they will let you up.
I stayed at the Yellow too and this is much better and less expensive. I would definitely stay here again.

We spent two nights at this hostel and it was the worst hostel I have ever been to. It is located in a central area (right next to Termini train station) but anyone who wants to stay in that area needs their heads testing. Its dodgy to say the least.
The staff were unhelpful. The shower was above the toilet. The room and bathroom were not clean at all. There was blood on the bed sheets. The walls looked like someone had thrown a cup of tea down them. The wardrobe had one door and was falling apart. The breakfast was a packet of pastries and some horrible coffee. You cant really say it is a 24 hostel with no lockout as I returned one night at 12am and the door was locked and the lights were off. I had to ring the door bell a few times to wake up the guy on reception (who was asleep on the sofa in reception in his shorts) to let me in.
Do yourself a favour and get another hostel in another part of town. I wouldn't put a tramp in this place!
