The hotel was nice, more like a B&B. Bed was comfortable, and we had a big room, and big bathroom. Breakfast in the nearby hotel was excellent, with a great view of Rome. Cons: There was no internet in the room, as you had to go outside, and down the street to use the wifi in another hotel lobby (affiliated with this hotel). That was considered "public/common areas". The bathroom shower head did not stand up vertically in the holder, so it was difficult taking a shower. A 5ft tall person would have been ok, as that was the highest point the head would sit at (& the holder was fixed to the wall). The tv satellite channels didn't work, and would flash on/off. We were there to tour Rome, so we were happy overall, but wifi would have been nice.

This was an excellent hotel considering we were in Rome and minutes from the Vatican.
Clean and tidy, efficient staff and an absolutely superb view from the roof terrace where breakfast is served. 10 euros taxi to the centre and minutes from tourist bus and metro makes this a preference stay to those in the centre which are more expensive.
We enjoyed our stay and would almost certainly repeat the experience in any return to Rome.

Maison royale does not exist. It is a dependence of the hotel Atlante.
Resgistering and the keys are to be fetched there. Thanks to a former review I knew that. It
should be mentioned in the ad. If you expect a full hotel service, do not go there.
However, if you love a mix of antique, very spacious and fully equipped quarters,
one block away from where you have a gorgeous breakfast and do not want to pay a
fortune, then maison royale is the best. Steps from the City Tour Bus 110 and bus 40
from and to Roma Termini. Plenty of lovely local restaurants around, check their
prices, they vary highly from place to place. And you are next to the Vatican :-)

Room Tip: If you got a car, you can park it inside the gate very securely. Next door is the Canadian papel Em...

My wife, son, and I stayed here for two nights after taking the Western Med Cruise. The room was very clean and spacious with a small refrigerator which was very handy. The price was very reasonable despite its proximity to the Vatican - walk a few blocks and you are there. The breakfast (included in the price) at the Hotel Atlante was very good. If we visit Rome again in the future, we will definitely stay here again and I would not hesitate to recommend LA MAISON ROYALE to a friend. We had a wonderful time!

Now, this is not a hotel. This is a stairway to an appartment converted to Bed & Breakfast rooms. Not bad at all, the rooms where clean and nice and felt like hotel rooms having passed the mildew stairwairs next to the hotel. I still give it 4 stars because of the 600 meters to the Vatican´and the roof restaurant of Atlante Hotel (which you actially are staying with) having 360 degrees sight of Rome.

We stayed here for two nights before we left for a cruise out of Rome. We picked this hotel after a long search for a reasonably priced hotel for 5 people ( 2 adults and 3 kids). It is very difficult to find a hotel for 5 in Rome without paying a fortune per night.
We paid 445 euros ( approximately $600) for 2 nights and had two rooms ( a triple and a double) at this property. This is a bed and breakfast affiliated with hotel atlante star. You check in at the hotel and walk about half a block to the bed and breakfast. It is really just a small apartment building on one floor which has a few rooms.
For our stay this was fine. Not bad and not great. It fit the need for what we needed but I would be disappointed if this was for longer than 2 nights.
We just needed a place to sleep after two long days of touring.
This is acceptable for a European hotel but by no means great.
I would only recommend this hotel because the price is good for what you get but if you are looking for a "nice" hotel you will be disappointed. For our stay, I happy for our choice but you need to know what to expect.
PRO: great price, complimentary breakfast at main hotel, free wifi at main hotel, good location walking distance to the Vatican and the piazza where there are many shops and restaurants.
CONS: not part of the main hotel, loud street noises at night because rooms are on the first floor, ran out of hot water very quickly, not the friendliest or most welcoming employees.

We visited Rome during the w/o 5/14/13. This was an excellent value for the price paid and its an ideal location since your in the heart of the city. It's essential that you know that the Atlante Star hotel is the owner of this property (only ~50 feet away) where you check in and have your complementary breakfast. Our room was comfortable, clean with A/C and your own bathroom. There is no signage advising of La Maison Royale, so make sure that you've recorded "Atlante Star" in your notes upon your arrival.
This location is within a few blocks of the Vatican and makes it quite easy to visit several times. Suggestion - Vatican is open 7AM to 7PM; to minimize waiting on long lines, go early as you can to visit this site. For the many sites within the city, we walked along the river which was nearby and crossed over bridges as needed for a specific site. Unless you have a private guide for Rome, make sure you take a map of the city and map out your destination(s). Yes, there was a lot of walking, however, we found some beautiful churches, gardens, museums and nice places to have lunch (i.e. paninis, pizza, etc.). I strongly suggest that guests take a taxi (40 euros) from Fiumicino airport to this location since you'll save time and avoid the various connections if you go via public transportation.
Personally, we found that there was a lack of signs and assistance for visitors speaking any language besides Italian. Overall, my wife and I were tired at the end of this vacation, but we had a wonderful time touring the city, eating great food and of course, lots of gelato.
