We stayed at Conte House in April 2012 and loved it. The owners were responsive and able to answer questions regarding places to see and dine. I made reservations with the same email address, etc.and had requested the same room and told it was available. However apparently the hotel has been sold. When we arrived after a very long travel day, we were told we our room was not in Conte House I but rather II. This is a walk of a few blocks up the road and away from the restaurants we wanted to return to. Our room was small and did not have the quaint feel we had requested in the other room we had asked for. The key for the front door didn't work and we had to walk BACK to the original location and was told that is a common problem, the key had to be lifted to the left and pulled out a bit, etc, etc. If this is a common issue, why were we not told at the beginning instead of being locked out of our hotel.
Conte House had been the only hotel we wanted to return to in Italy on our second trip, unfortunately we felt we were mis-led as to the room availability and location. When we let the owner know he was very nonchalant and unconcerned. We will not return to Conte House. It has lost its charm for us.
