“Great hotel, very poor/rude staff.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

We first arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a friendly staffer at the front desk. She handed us a paper and told us to take the "907" bus back to the bus stop that was listed on the paper. The paper stated "Forte Trionfale" so we rode the bus and rode the bus for quite some time. I finally asked the driver when we would get that and he immediately stopped the bus and stated it "was way back there" and to get off and walk back to the last bus stop on the other side. He also stated he did not know if a bus was coming back. We waited 1 hour and nothing in the middle of nowhere. We called the hotel where the same staffer told be to "wait for another bus" I told her we have been and could she please send a cab for us. She stated that we had to call a cab company and told her we were borrowing someones phone that I asked on the street. She said ok and hung up on me. My wife called back and told her not to hang up as we needed to get back and the staffer stated that she knew where we were but again told her to call a taxi and hung up. I tried to flag down 2 taxis (as taxis do not come out there) and no one came. Fianlly a taxi pulled up for another fair at a restaurant and he allowed us to share the ride and took us back. I told the staffer what she did was wrong and they should pay for the taxi fair. She said she was not wrong and that "everyone gets off at the bus stop" I told her the driver stated "they did not stop at FORTE Trionfale" and she stated " that is because it is listed under another name." I stated then why does it state ForteTrionfale on the paper? She stated "everyone knows this is the same name" I told her it was my first day in Rome and I did not know, she said "next time you will know". I am speaking to the manger tomorrow.

Far from city center, great green atmosphere, great and cheap breakfast, free parking, nice rooms ... I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel ... Rent a car and drive through lovely Rome streets to this hotel then you will enjoy your stay.

We stayed at this hotel for a few days near the end of August to the beginning of September.

When we first got to Rome, we took the subway and a bus to get to the hotel from the airport. This took about 40-50 minutes. Once asking the bus drive where to get off, we couldn't find the hotel. This is because it is located on a small side street.

Once getting in, the front staff were very polite and helpful. We were going to do some sightseeing and they had subway and bus routes on a sheet to help us find where we needed to go.

When reading reviews, people state that this hotel is far from tourist sites but I would disagree. When there, you can take 1 bus to a subway station (Cipro station) then get ANYWHERE! Cipro is actually the subway station you get off to see the Vatican.

The room itself was fine. It was actually quite big. The shower was small but that was fine, I could take a shower in it. One thing that lacked in the room was proper air conditioning. It did work but took a while to cool the room. Internet was free, cable was fine. One bonus is the window fully opened up for fresh air!

Every morning they had breakfast and they could improve this. They had a lot of food but the only thing that tasted good was the croissants. Good thing is that this can be improved right away.

Overall a pleasant stay.
Would I stay again? Probably but I would have breakfast at the McDonalds across the street ;-)

This is absolutely NOT a tourist hotel since it is out in the middle of no-where. Hard to find, rather far from the bus stop and our experience was that the bus ride was NOT 15 minutes but could be twice that much especially in the late afternoon / early evening AND the bus drivers were on strike one day. Real hassle to say the least. Hotel itself was average but staff were above average. The hotel is down a long, long late that didn't look like anywhere a hotel would be. The hotel sign was broken in half and barely visible and the lane itself was poorly marked with regular street signs. Locals didn't know of the hotel or where the road was. I suggest more research to see if a different location would be more suitable for your needs.

My family stayed at the Excel Montemario for 9 days in August this year. Our criteria in choosing a hotel were that it should be located in a quiet area; should have a pool and be a short commute from Rome's central sights.

The Excel is located on the edge of a nature reserve around 5 km from central Rome. A 15m bus ride from outside the hotel is all that is required to begin a day's sightseeing.

The hotel is not so easy to find as it is located down a dirt track, but it is an imposing building upon arrival. Reception staff are very friendly and efficient. We ordered a triple room, and we were delighted to find that instead of the usual " Double room plus a camp bed" in most hotels, the Excel assigned us a spacious room with a king sized double and queen sized second bed, perfect for our big teenaged son.

The room, on the 4th floor was spacious with double windows overlooking fields. Not opulently appointed like some of the suites we saw but very comfortable. AC worked but struggled a bit against the forty degree August sun during our visit. A modern TV, mini bar and lots of power sockets made our stay easier.

The pool area is lovely, worthy of a "resort" hotel, but for some inexplicable reason it closes each night at 7 pm. The lights are switched on making it look very tempting in the evening, yet alas we are denied !!

The breakfast is not the best aspect of this hotel: lots of cakes pastries, and not really very much else except for some bacon and scrambled egg, The breakfast room in the M & G restaurant was quite nice though.

The M & G Restaurant in the hotel is very popular with locals, and service is impeccable, but we found the food quality a little bit variable. Acceptable though, and thats a good job because there are no too many eating options within the nearby area around the hotel.

Overall I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly, and to have a hotel with such a lovely pool so close to the city centre was a real bonus. There are "posher" four stars for sure, but we found very little to complain about and much to commend during our stay.

Room Tip: 4th floor rooms are quiet and airy, and have a breeze through the shutters at that height.

We were staying here in the beginning of August. Very spacious rooms, clean and well equipped. We had a huge bathroom. Housekeeping and reception were very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast can use an upgrade. Once you know how to find your way into the center by bus and back, it's a very convenient place to stay when visiting Rome. The pool is great after a day in the center!
