“Noisy but Good Location..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

We enjoyed a weekend away in Rome and chose Hotel Boccaccio due to the location . Hotel Boccaccio is found down a side street and very close to Trevi, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and that area of Rome.
The hotel itself is the owners home and she lets out some of the rooms . We had a room with our own bathroom but the shower was tiny .. I am only 5ft 4 but the shower cubicle was too small for me. The shower curtain did not really do the job and as much as I tried the floor always got sopping wet.
This is an Eco Hotel so the towels, sheets are not changed everyday and the towels are also very very rough and worn.
The other main issue I had with this hotel and something I had not thought about was Air Conditioning ... wow we missed this and next time in Rome I would always choose a hotel that offered this. The problem was even though we were down a 'quiet' side street at night this place seemed to come alive !! There is a bar and restaurants underneath and at night this place is so noisy so you honestly cannot sleep with the window open. We had to suffer ...
The best thing about this hotel was the location and even though we spent hardly anytime in the room I would choose to stay somewhere else next time as I noticed those little things like good toiletries, soft towels and air con really are worth the price to us.

Dear customer talking about the inconvenients that you described in your mail we can say that : in the past we have' nt had any complains about the size of the shower cabine or the functionality of the curtain even from people with size bigger than yours , our supplier of towels is the best in Roma , he is suppliyng towels also to better category hotels , we are a one star Hotel therefore you can not expect some services like AC and finally regarding noise coming sometimes from the street at night sorry but we are not able to control bad mannered people . Anyway at the end we are very unpleased for your troubles
in your stay at our Hotel and we would be happy to see you again in the near future triyng to offer you a pleasant stay without any problem. Thanks however for your final good judgement and let us send you our Best Regards . Patty

Central (Barberini metro station), clean, warm and cozy (like mom's house). This was our second stay here. Patrizia, the owner, is an angel. It's as if you're a guest in her home. Which, you kind of are. You are a 30 minute stroll to most of the attractions in Rome ... 5 minutes from the metro station ... surrounded by cafe's ... what more can one ask for? Mental note, she's on the second floor, but there is an elevator. That's a rare thing in Rome! We will be back to see our friend, that much is certain.

I loved staying in this hotel with Patrizia. She was very helpful and wonderful to deal with. Rome was such a beautiful place! Patrizia recommended 2 wonderful places to eat dinner, let me borrow her umbrella, and was so gracious about everything! Very close to everything, we were able to walk everywhere, it was an excellent location. I would definitely stay here if I ever make it back to Roma again.

Room Tip: the rooms over the street are a bit noisy, due to a downstairs bar, we had the room with private bat...

For my 5 night stay in Rome I did a lot of research into the various hostels and hotels available around the Trevi Fountain/Spanish Steps area, and the Boccaccio consistently rated high on a lot of website reviews. So I bit the bullet and I'm glad I did. First off, it's extremely easy to find, just a block or so down from Station Barberini, which is only 2 stops from Termini. When you get there you realise just how close it is to the sites in this part of Rome - the Trevi is extremely close by and the Spanish Steps only a few blocks away.

When you get there you go up one flight of stairs (a lift is available) and are greeted by a smiling Patty at the door. Patty is the 3rd generation owner of the Boccaccio and a lovely, maternal presence in the house. If nots really a hostel, nor pension or hotel. It really is an extension of Patty's home, and guests are encouraged to treat it that way. So no fancy locks, TVs, air con, etc. There's a few flyers by the door, but Patty has a wealth of knowledge to share if you need insight into Rome. I stayed in the single room overlooking the front door. I've heard other reviews mention the noise but I was fine. It's bright, sunny, big for a single, comfortable and sported a sink and cupboard. It was also very clean, and the cleaner does come around every day to tidy up. There's a separate bathroom and another shower/toilet room down the hall which is also maintained well. I suppose where one's expectations need to be adjusted is that this really is Patty's home, and if you're comfortable in that kinda space it's lovely. What separates it from hostels is the level of service, even if the amenities are similar to what you can get elsewhere.

I'd definitely recommend it for travellers who want a personable experience in Rome.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-3 look over the st, so may be better to get the back rooms to avoid noise

As we were first time in Rome it was more then easy to find the hotel, it took us 3 min from Barberini metro station. Hotel is in the old building (like each building in Rome), on the first floor. The owner Patty was very kind to wait for us to check-in as we came an hour later then expected. We got the keys from the building entrance doors, so we could come and go whenever suitable for us. All roman attractions are practicly nearby, Fontana di Trevi is on 5 min walking, also Piazza di Spagna, Piazza della Reppublica, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Pallazzo Venezia etc. Metro and bus station are near, but we haven`t use them a lot as Rome is great for walking. Anyway we recommend this hotel for couples and friends and everyone that will use it only for shower and sleep. Our room was very clean, we had a private bathroom, also very clean, so everything as expected.

We found the hotel easily, and it is very well located for sightseeing in Rome. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby too. It is a quirky hotel with lots of character, and the owner Patty is friendly and helpful. Our double ensuite room was spacious, and although simply furnished it was warm and cosy throughout the freezing temperatures of our February stay. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom is modern, and all was maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. The only improvement we could suggest would be some larger and fluffier towels! We really enjoyed our stay here, and would certainly stay there again next time we are in Rome - it was excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Some rooms are ensuite and others share facilities. Some reviews mention noise from outside. We had...

The hotel had no AC, which in summer in Rome, is quite awful. This would have been fine, as we knew that when we booked it, but we also could not open the window due to the fact that the hotel is on the first floor be over a popular bar. We heard people talking ALL night, as it is also a busy area in the morning, and smelled smoke from the cigarettes in our room.

Otherwise, the hotel was very cute, and everything was clean. However, for the loud location above a bar, and the shared bathroom facilities, this hotel is not such a great deal, as it is not inexpensive enough to make up for these qualities. After the first night we moved hotels down the street, paying 30 more euro for one night and the exact same price the other night for MUCH better accommodations- including AC, private bathroom, and quiet!
