“A Golden experience in Rome”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

Our family of 4 just finished 5 days and 4 nights in Rome with our base camp at the Hotel Golden. From the very first email exchange and phone call, I could tell this was going to be a pleasant experience. The Hotel Golden came highly recommended by fellow airline employees, who travel through Europe reasearching great deals to share with co-workers. We had two rooms next to each other, one with two twin beds for the boys and one with a king for the wife and I. Both were very clean and had nicely tiled bathrooms with showers. We didnt want or need a hotel with 5 star accommadations since we planned on sightseeing till after dark and eating out every night. We found all the members of the Loria family to be very helpful answering questions and giving advice when needed. With only 18 rooms to manage the Loria family is very well staffed and able to give each guest the required attention they deserve. With only two years until I retire and start increasing the number of trips abroad, I will definitely return to visit the Loria family and the Hotel Golden. Highly recommended if your looking to find a small hotel where you feel like family.

We have just returned from a really pleasant five day break in Rome with three other couples, eight persons in total. We stayed at the Hotel Golden and found Guiseppe, Marco and their family to be most welcome hosts. The Hotel Golden is on the first floor of a beautiful old marble building in the most select part of Rome, just across the road from the Villa Borghese. The Via Veneto is literally 20 seconds' walk away. Guiseppe organised a cab from the airport which was considerably cheaper than the tram to the Termini and a taxi and we were glad as it brought us right to the door. Our room was spotlesly clean with high ceilings, a large king size bed and en suite batheroom. If we had to be picky, tea/coffee making was not available and after a long dayout sightseeing or getting up early in the morning it is nice to be able to make a cuppa. That said, it is possible in the mornings to grapb a tea or coffee from the breakfast room, whicis on the same floor, and take it back to the room but of coure that means getting dressed and looking presentable! The breakfast was a very nice well varied Continental choice consisting of toast, boiled eggs, sliced omelette, sausages, jams, croissants, cakes and other delectables. Tea and coffee is unlimited. We undertook lots of sightseeing when we were in Rome and Guiseppe and Marco were extremely helpful. We would also recommend 'The Little Tomato' which is only a couple of blocks away for delicious food. Guiseppe also booked a table for us at a super restaurant serving typical Roman fare which was delicious and reasonable. Expect to pay around 100 Euros for a three course mel for two with drinks. All in all a fantastic base from which to discover Rome and highly recommended - we will be back!

A lovely hotel. The family room was wonderful ( there was 5 of us) - clean, modern & spacious - fantastic value for money. It is family run and everyone was friendly & so helpful. Breakfast is wonderful. Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, the beautiful Borghese Gardens are all close by. Barberini for the Metro 10-15 minute walk making the Vatican @ Colisseum easily accessible ( although on foot a 45 minute walk). Transfer service to/from airport smooth also. Overall we had a fantastic weekend in Rome. Thank you Hotel Golden

Our family of five recently stayed 4 nights in a two bedroom apartment at the Hotel Golden in Rome. The apartment was amazing, so spacious, clean and luxurious. The hotel is run by a family who pride themselves on making you feel part of their family whilst staying with them. On arrival we received maps and information about the surrounding area and Rome. We were given helpful information about where to eat, helpful travel directions and tips on how to best plan our days and visits to tourist venues. Giuseppe assisted our family to book a day trip to Florence and Pisa which was a highlight of our European holiday. We will be recommending Hotel Golden to all our family and friends and very much hope we may return one day soon to stay with papa Mario, mamma Teresa, Maria, Marco and Giuseppe.

200 yards from the very top of the via Veneto. Located in the very high rent district just around the corner from Harry's Bar ( 20 bucks for a great coctail) and the Marriott. Wonderful, all down hill walk, through one of the most fashionable and exclusive areas of Rome with its' restaurants, hotels and embassies to the Piazza Barberini and on to the most famous piazzas and fountains of Rome. All of this laid out for you on a map as you are welcomed to this wonderful small hotel, just around the corner from where a room will cost 4 or 5 times as much.

Buses are very easy to use. Learn the bus routes nearest the hotel or you will have to walk back up that hill at the end of your day. The streets are cobbled, uneven and require the best walking shoes. Walking back up the hill is probably ok if you are fit and under 50 y/o; two categories which no longer apply to us.

Every good thing said by every other reviewer about this hotel and the family who run it was in evidence in their concern for our enjoyment of Rome. How could you not want to return?

The Trip Advisor reviews were very good--as was the recommendation by Rick Steves--and Hotel Golden lived up to its advance press. I'd say most of the credit goes to the charming Loria family who go out of their way to make sure everyone's stay is the best it can be, with recommendations, maps and general good cheer. The hotel is very close to Villa Borghese and a lovely walk to the historic city center. The room I stayed in was small and rather basic, but the bathroom was modern and fairly spacious. The bed was comfortable and all was very clean and orderly. The staff was very efficient in its daily cleaning of the room. The breakfast served daily in a cheerful dining room room was ample and tasty. I would recommend getting a room on a higher floor, if possible, since mine got a bit noisy on the second floor. Also, the restaurants in the area seemed pricey and touristy. Better to head to the Piazza Navona area. Or Giulitti's for the best gelato in Rome! I stayed there alone, as I was going to visit my college-age child studying in Rome and felt quite safe in this neighborhood.

Room Tip: Aim for an upstairs room, if possible, to minimize street noise. Or ask where there will be less of...

This was our second stay at the Hotel Golden. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, a convenient metro stop, the Borghese Gallery and more. The owners of this family-run hotel recommended lovely local restaurants with wonderful food, off the beaten path of more touristy places. We fell in love with a coffee bar around the corner! The rooms have modern bathrooms and are quite comfortable. The owners are helpful and caring and consistently surpassed our expectations. I would highly recommend the Hotel Golden and we will surely stay again upon a return visit.
