“The perfect B&B”
Reviewed February 16, 2010

We had a lovely stay here in February. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the place was very centrally located and yet amazingly quiet, the breakfast delicious and the host charming and chatty but not overbearing. We even had a little private roof terrace accessible from the room - unfortunately we didn't have time to use it, but there was a very thoughtful tray containing two crystal wine glasses and a bottle opener had we had the opportunity to enjoy and aperitif on it. Antique furnishings and a large well appointed bathroom. Am looking forward to my next visit already!

We loved it! This B&B is located in a quiet part of the charming Trastevere district of Rome. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere from here: the Vatican, the Forum, Pantheon, etc. -- but then, we are avid walkers. For those less inclined to walk, there is a tram to center city a couple of blocks away.

We very much appreciated the quietness of the location, and of the B&B itself - not always easy to find in Rome!

Our charming hosts were very helpful with delightful restaurant recommendations, sites to see, etc.. They arranged a pick-up for us at Rome airport, which worked like a charm.

All in all, a delightful stay in a delightful city!

The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the major attractions and there are many excellent local restaurants nearby.

Marco was an excellent host who provided us with information and maps and proposed a route for our first night walk which was excellent.

Each room is charming and has it's own full bathroom. Will definitively stay there again in the future!

Having booked this gem of a guest house from advice on this site we can only say that the experience is even better than described. From our first contact with Marco via email I can safely say that Arco de Tolomei surpasses its reputation.
We made the decision to travel into Rome by public transport and, never having been to the city previously, the directions we found on their website were easy to follow (once we had worked out which way was the right way on the fast tram!!). Our bags safely deposited and the three keys all explained (one for the outer door, another for the entrance to the guest house, and the third to our room), we took the short walk over the river and within 10 minutes were totally immersed in the wonder that is Rome.
Over the three days in the city we walked everywhere, no need to take transport when you are as central as this - yet also away from the hustle and bustle. Marco provided the maps and the guidance, our legs did the rest!
So what more can I say about this gem that has not already been said? Marco really is an amazing host, his recommendations on where we should eat, his interest in our day and his advice on places (in particular Palazzo Coronna) were unsurpassed.
I guess that our only disappointment was that we were not allocated one of the rooms on the higher floor with access to the roof terraces as previously mentioned - but as the weather was not on our side either (it rained most of the weekend) it did not matter too much! The room we had was lovley, with a huge kingsize bed (2 singles joined together) and full of antiques and personal touches.
From the family portraits which adorn the walls in the dining room, to excellent (continental) breakfasts it was a very special experience and one to which we hope to return.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Marco and everyone could not have been kinder. The neighborhood is wonderful. We moved the second night to a room with a lovely patio that you climbed up and out your window to reach. Really charming. Can't say enough about the lovely antique touches.

Arco dei Tolomei was the perfect hotel and location for a long weekend break over New Year. The hotel's location is pretty much unbeatable - 10 minutes' walk to the main attractions, yet far enough away to be quiet and authentically Roman at night. The hotel is charming as is Marco the owner - great breakfasts and very good local knowledge. There are a clutch of really good inexpensive restaurants nearby too.

i would definitely recommend Arco to anyone!

The location is very good, within walking distance of most of what one wants to see in Rome and in a charming neighborhood with a multiplicity of restaurants. The rooms were charming, the bathrooms first rate. The proprietor, Marco Fe d'Ostiani, was particularly helpful in making reservations at restaurants (including Christmas Eve, when many were closed) and at major museums.
