“The Charm of Roman Living”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

First of all, my apologies to Marco for not writing a review sooner! We stayed in this hotel at the very end of our trip and as soon as we got back to the US and into our routine, well you all know how the story goes...
We had been staying at the Relais Teatro Argentina at the beginning of our trip to Italy. The Relais is run by his daughter. Let me just say one thing: THIS FAMILY KNOWS HOW TO RUN HOTELS AND TO MAKE YOU FEEL AT HOME!!!
If you want to know what it feels like to live in Rome, I highly recommend to stay at the Residenza Arco dei Tolomei. You will be in a happening location that offers great bars, good restaurants and amazingly affordable wine from a liquor store a few blocks down the road. So, after you met some locals (NOT tourists!) at a bar the one night, you might want to have that bottle of wine on one of the adorable little balconies attached to the rooms the other night. In any case, this place is a true gem in a part of the city that mostly sees tourists only during the day.

That said, be aware that the Residenza is a well established place. Meaning that you will be surrounded by antique furnishings. So, if you absolutely cannot live without ultra-modern bathroom fixtures, you might want to look elsewhere. BUT you are going to miss an incredible experience.
For the age of the house, the cleanliness is exceptional. The whole layout of the place is so amazing, you feel like you are staying with a family. If I could take that kitchen (which is situated in a small extra-house on the terrace) and bring it to my place, I would. I want that kitchen! ;-)
We took breakfast with all the other guests in the dining room. It was out of this world. My personal favorite was the lemon cake.

A word of caution for us younger people: The other guests seemed to be extremely conservative. We actually saw bibles being read. We didn't encounter any difficulties, but at the somewhat forced socialization during breakfast it became hard to ignore the right-wing tea party comments from the other guests. However, that was one morning out of a year. So this is to be taken with a grain of salt. ;-)

Since we knew Rome already a bit, we didn't need to ask for help. We saw Marco giving splendid tips to spend the day to others though. Over all we had an amazing time there and will definitely come back.

The location is perfect for walking to all the major sites including some less known, but wonderful ones suggested by Marco. He and Jocelyn provide assistance with all your holiday needs....transportation, great restaurants, bus routes. All the previous reviews have details about this great place to stay in Rome.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Arco dei Tolomei for a long weekend and will definitively stay here again our next trip. The guesthouse is located in a quiet side street in the vibrant neighbourhood of Trastevere. The rooms are clean and charming, and the bathroom was recently renovated. We even had our own balcony. The walls between the rooms were a bit thin, however there was no noise at night, so this was not a big issue. Breakfast was great with a lot to choose from (yoghurt, fresh bread and juices, cheese, meat, homemade jam) and attentive service. The owner joined us for breakfast every morning and gave us great tips for our day and helped us with reservations, tickets, you name it. We will definitively recommend Arco dei Tolomei to everyone looking for a charming little retreat in the middle of Rome!

We want to thank Marco and Gianna and their wonderful staff for making our stay in Rome so perfect. The atmosphere at the Arco dei Tolomei was very pleasant, Marco’s warm and helpful advice was outstanding! We would all highly recommend the Arco dei Tolomei as an affordable place to stay and we will certainly be back when in Rome again.

A great location, just near the bridge that takes you to many of Rome's important sites!
This part of Trastavere is such a nice break from the crowded and heavily touristed Rome
streets. Marco has created such a pleasant atmosphere, the rooms are nice but best of
all is to be able to access Marco's great dining choices. I greatly enjoyed all the local
restaurants he suggested.

My wife and I started our latest Italian vacation in Rome, and we consider ourselves fortunate to have chosen Marco's guest house. Marco and Gianna are gracious and genial, and seem to genuinely enjoy sitting to chat with guests at breakfast. This is at one long table, which lets us easily meet and exchange experiences with the other guests. Marco knows and loves Trastevere, and gave us useful tips on what to see and where to eat.

The area is ancient and just about the most peaceful part of Rome. Despite being "across the river", it's an easy walk to the Forum and Campidoglio, and from there to all our favorite locations in Rome. We were sad to leave.

My husband and I enjoyed our first trip to Italy at this charming bed and breakfast. The hosts Marco and Gianna were extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel as if we were their special guests at their home. They keep the guest house clean and well equipped, with comfortable beds and hot showers -- what everyone needs when they spend long days sightseeing and experiencing the endless wonders of Rome. The dining room where guests gather for a sumptuous breakfast buffet is lovely, and in warm weather we also enjoyed tea on the terraces and patios, one of which was outside our room. (Don't miss the homemade pear cake prepared by Jocelyn). The location of Residenza Arco dei Tolomei is very convenient to many sights, and we very much enjoyed the colorful neighborhood of Trastevere. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast, and would definitely stay there again.
