“Charming and Refined B&B”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Arco dei Tolomei is in an authentic neighborhood of Rome which has a nice mix of locals and tourists. Marco could not have been more warm and helpful in recommending restaurants, scenic walks, and sites. The smart guest follows his advice because he has outstanding taste
and comprehensive knowledge of Rome. We cannot wait to return to Rome and stay here again!

Arco dei Tolomei is an great and unique experience. Located perfectly for access to the entire city and close access to some of the best restaurants of Rome. The owner, Marco, took his time for each of the 3 mornings we spent to suggest his favoutite spots of Rome, and in Hind sight those locations are the ones I remeber the best. Both Marco and his wife are real "foodies" so if you are a lover of food i can asure his suggestiosn are the best.

Room Tip: All 6 rooms are fantastic

This was the last leg of our travels in Italy and a wonderful way to end our trip! The Arco de Tolomei provided us a quiet, comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Marco and Gianna were gracious hosts and welcomed us with enthusiasm. We felt as if we were staying with old friends in their country home! The homemade pear cake served at breakfast was a real treat! The Trastevere is a great neighborhood to explore with many excellent restaurants. We traveled during October which was still peak season. I would recommend traveling during off season to avoid the crowds.

Charming setting in Trastevere within walking distance of Rome's archeological district. Marco and his staff were gracious, helpful, and friendly. Typical Italian breakfast is served daily in a charming dining room surrounded by period antiques and artwork, looking out at an enclosed garden . We had a large room and bath with a balcony, daily maid service and environmentally sensitive laundry policies. We stayed nine days and consulted our host, Marco, daily about our itinerary. He consistently had suggestions that enhanced our experience. He offered and made museum and restaurant reservations, & transportation arrangements. Marco made notes on our city map each day of good cafes on our route. His suggestions for neighborhood restaurants were excellent. We were interested in small cafes with local cuisine and he steered us to some delightful places. We had several delightful conversations with Marco on a variety of subjects which just enriched our experience. We highly recommend Arco dei Tolomei.

All I can say that I agree with most of the positive reviews. As long as you do not expect a 5 star hotel with swimming pool, massage, etc .... We loved Trastevere area !!!
Thank you Marco and Gianna for all your advice, help and lovely conversations

Stayed at Arco de Tolomei for 3 nights in January, and loved the simple charm of our comfortable room in this genteel B&B. Marco was friendly & helpful and it felt like he tailormade his recommendations to suit us, rather than simply suggest generic tourist hotspots. The local restaurants he kindly booked for us were a highlight of our stay. We enjoyed access to the sunny balcony, despite the winter chill and appreciated the wine glasses and corkscrew in the room. The cold buffet breakfasts were delicious and generous, with homemade preserves and outstanding coffee made by the lovely Regina & but with no variation which could get boring after a few days. Although not luxurious, the accommodation had everything we needed (especially a very comfy bed!).
The area of Trastavere is full of character & life - great bars, trattoria and quirky shops - so glad we stayed here. Easy to reach Rome's best bits by foot from the B&B, though we made good use of the free bus, tram & metro service included in the Roma Pass which meant we reached lots of places more quickly & easily.
Couple of downsides: no-one seemed to be around other than at breakfast time, and be aware that the hotel can be tricky to find at first as there is no sign other than on the buzzer keypad. Keep your eyes peeled for the no. 27 above the door - it's worth the search!

This quirky personal bed and breakfast has an excellent location, convenient, quiet and charming. The staff is helpful and accommodating. Marco, an owner, gives wonderful advice and suggestions, and is a delight to talk to. The feel is that of staying with friends in a lovely home. Guide books, internet, a computer and wifi, it is all provided. The place has the feel of a country retreat, in the middle of the city.
