“So much potential, just needs to be a little bit more visitor friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

So we bit the bullet and purchased the special deal you can get to visit the two MACRO sites. This review is for the Via Nizza site which costs 12.50 euros alone, so it is worth getting the extra ticket for 14.50.
I don't know what it is about major museum staff and what beats them down, but can a smile or two hurt that much? This is not just an Italy specific thing either by the way, we need to get on the backs of these institutions and get some good old friendly service back into the industry!
Back to MACRO, the exhibitions I saw were presented beautifully but the building itself is just a bit too clever for it's own good. There are doors that let you out but not back in and pathways that end abruptly. If you have time and want to 'investigate' the space, you can easily just wander this kooky place between shows. Despite the pretentious 'artspeak' info that plagues all contemporary art realms, the artwork and installations spoke for themselves and were lots of fun and full of humour and thoughtfulness: Jamie Durham's show was especially hilarious! I enjoyed visiting this place and look forward to checking out the second site, my gripe is the attitude and poor communication skills of staff and the sloppy layout between good exhibitions.

“Modern art in Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

We spent a pleasant hour checking out an exhibition focussed on Rome between the 1960s-end of the 1990s. There were other rooms which we didn't have time to go through as we had a lunch booking on the other side of town and we on foot. Located in Via Nizza, the gallery doesn't open until 11am, and as we arrived early we took the opportunity to wander around this more residential area.

Well worth a visit.

“Great Shows in a Great Building”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

The building itself is worth a visit, cleverly reusing old industrial property in a very creative way. The 2 temporary exhibitions we saw were outstanding and it was a joy to explore the complex, from the atrium to the rooftop "piazza".

“MACRO is a fun and energetic addition to Rome's art scene”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

We are big fans of the MACRO museum. Housed in what was once a Peroni beer plant, the museum also has an interesting modern wing. The complex is soaring at times yet somehow manages an intimacy and playfulness (like walking a catwalk over some of the exhibits). We found several interesting exhibits while we were there, as well as a terrific cafe/bar and rooftop area. And the bathrooms are fabulous! Note it's somewhat pricy for the tickets: check to see what exhibits are open before going.
