“Quiet, romantic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2012

As others have noted, this hotel offers seclusion while being within strolling distance of many prime sights. Our room (348) had as charming decor as one might hope for from a romantic Roman hotel, yet was well sound-proofed (we never heard other guests), with powerful air conditioning, a stocked mini-bar, and a safe large enough to hold our mini laptop and two digital SLR cameras with space to spare. There was also wired in-room internet. The mattress was a bit firmer than I usually prefer, yet I slept well.

The staff here are class acts. We were welcomed upon arrival with glasses of refreshingly cold juice, and check-in was painless. During our stay, the front desk was extremely helpful making dinner restaurant reservations for us and calling us cabs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay here, and would definitely stay again on a return trip to Rome.

The Hotel Aventino sits high on the Aventino hill near central Rome, within easy access of public transport, but so quiet you'd never know you were in a busy city. The building is a restored villa surrounded by greenery, with a terrace on two sides.

There is no restaurant at the hotel, so there are no evening meals, though the staff will conjure a sandwich or order a pizza from a local firm if you're not going out for the night. Breakfast is a buffet with a decent selection.

The beds must be eight foot wide, and very firm. While the rooms aren't huge, they're well laid out and pleasant, the linen is soft and there's CAT5 internet in the rooms (so take an adaptor if you have something like a Mac Book Air) which is free, though you have to get a user name and password every couple of days.

The best part of the hotel is the staff. Having experienced rude, off-hand people in the tourist information centre at the airport, they were a pleasant surprise, being helpful and professional. I'm coming back to Rome in a few month and will definitely stay at the Hotel Aventino again.

Stayed here in June for 3 days for part of our honeymoon. The room we had was on the top floor and we had our own private courtyard. The room was lovely although at the time the air con was not working, luckily at the beginning of June the weather wasn't overly hot. We loved the breakfast! Best breakfast out of the 4 hotels we stayed at around Italy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was amazing, away from the touristy area but close enough to walk to the metro stops and some of the historic sites. The surrounds are very quiet and peaceful with beautiful scenery.

I stayed the week before Ester with my son in the hotel and had a phantastic time. The hotel has an excellent location, near to the centre, about 15 minutes walking time in a very nice and peaceful area.

The hotel staff is very friendly and courteous. The rooms are very clean and for room despite being in an old villa, it is very well kept and charming. Beautiful garden to sit in and very quiet.

I will certainly come back to Rome to one of the Aventino Hotels

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of April. The staff was very friendly, the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and the breakfast was top notch. No, it's not right in the middle of the action - but we almost preferred it that way. My only complaint -- they charge 5 euros an hour to use the lobby PC - WiFi in the rooms is free.

We just got back from our first stay at this hotel after hearing about it from a friend. We enjoyed it thoroughly, as our room was clean and charming, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was above average. What really sets it apart, though, is the peacefulness and beauty of the neighborhood. It is not super convenient, as you have to walk about 10-15 minutes to the Colosseum/Forum area, and from there onwards into the center, but we found that the tranquility of the area and the value-for-money more than made up for it. I'd definitely return.

Ok, where to start? We checked in and the service was great, if slow, because almost everything is still written down and not computerised. We were given a "Garden Room" (room 334), also known as a ground floor room with a 2sq.m. pavement with a table and chair (not exactly Gardenesque). We put our bags down, put money and passports in the safe and went for a walk. It's a 10min walk to Circo Massimo and the Metro, and another 10mins to the Colosseum, so the location is good but the roads and pavements around the hotels are badly cracked and in need of repair, so walking with bags was troublesome. When we came back, our room had ants all over the floor, the shower leaked BADLY and the bath wasn't sealed at all, and worst of all the safe wouldn't open as several of the buttons wouldn't register.

We eventually changed rooms, got everything out of the safe and got an in-hotel room next to the dining room (room 331). We were greeted to a damp smell as the room hadn't been aired due to the bathroom having no exterior window. The bed was comfortable but the shower wasn't confined by a curtain/glass and the floor wasn't angled to allow the water to drain, so the water went everywhere and we had to use towels to mop the excess in order to use the toilet and sink safely.

The staff at night as they were setting up the dining room for breakfast were very loud. The breakfast sucked! There was no type of juice (only a sickly sweet "fruit juice"), only two types of cereal that were very bland, the croissants/pastries were soooooo dry that I had to take a sip of coffee (the quality of which differed day in, day out) with every bite to make my mouth remoisten, the bread was very dry (no choice of type; only white) with only ONE 2 slice toaster available, but there was a good selection of fruit and yogurts.

Lastly, the airport transfer service that the hotel ordered for us on the return started to take us to the wrong airport despite my confirmation several times with the receptionist that we were going to Ciampino. The driver confirmed on the booking sheet, signed by the hotel, that the hotel had stated the wrong airport. Lovely.

Basically, for about 110€ a night + "Rome Tourist Tax", I expected a lot more. Would I stay there again? No. The hotels nearer the city centre were slightly more expensive but after speaking to other travellers that we met about their better experiences, we would consider spending more for more comfort and better value if we visited Rome again.

Room Tip: Don't get an outside "Garden" room.

Dear Sir,
we are so sorry for your disappointment and for all the inconveniences you've experienced during your stay. Actually the rooms on the bottom floor are definetely not our best rooms as the one on the higher levels, which though, must be booked months in advance.
We will centainly cherish all your comments and take immediate action to improve the maintenance of the rooms close to the garden. I thank you again for pointing out all the problems you've incurred in order to avoid such bad circumstances for our future guests.
