“Bed Bugs, Dirty Rooms, Horrible Service - Spare Yourself!”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

If you don't mind tiny unlit rooms, dirty carpets and bed bugs then this hotel is for you! The lack of interest from the owner and receptionists in terms of helping me deal with the infestation of all my belongings and horrible bites on my body was also shocking. I was placed in 3 different rooms during a 4 night stay for disorganization reasons + the bed bug incident (which by the way was not AT ALL taken care of - nobody seemed to care and the staff suggested I wash my clothes in the KITCHEN)... so I got a pretty good tour of the different types of rooms available. All grungy, depressing, dirty.

That should be enough to keep you away, but I should also add that calling to make reservations from Brazil in advance still resulting in my being assigned a dirty room with an unmade bed.

Don't trust the photos posted on travel sites, the rooms don't look like that at all.

Not only was this hotel affordable and modern for such a historic country, but John Lucas on reception made our stay wonderful. He is a true credit to this property & if reception was an Olympic sport - he would win a gold medal. He does actually care about his guests and the quality of stay they have!!! And yes, I would definitely return.

This was a good basic value for money hotel with clean rooms and en-suite facilities that worked. The continental breakfast was good but you'd be best going out for a decent coffee. It's just a short walk into Rome and there were plenty of good value local restaurants nearby. The reception staff were really helpful and will handle negotiating taxi fares for you if needed. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location, 5 minutes from metro station and termini train station. Easy access to the main attractions. Clean, quaint hotel, with very friendly pleasant staff. Plenty of local retaurants surrounding the hotel, a value for money hotel, ideal base, no complaints.

The hotel is within walking distance from many of the sights and really close to the metro station. It was easy to find when arriving by train to Rome. Behind the corner there is also a market almost daily where you can by fresh fruit and other stuff. There are also couple of restaurants and minimarkets in the same block.

The receptionists were really friendly and helpful whether you had questions about the hotel or tourists sights. When arriving, the receptionists even gave us a tourist map and showed how to get to places.

The breakfast was included and, based on conversation with friends also travelled to Rome, it was pretty basic italian breakfast: white bread and also lots of sweet pastries such as croissant, pie etc.. Also some yoghurt, cereals and a coffee machine that didn't however provide you with that good coffee..

The room itself was quite small even though it was big enough to fit two night stands, a small table, old TV and a clothes cupboard and a small safety box. When we arrived it smelled a lot like chlorine probably after the cleaning. However, the cleaners weren't that good since there was a lot of dust under our bed and the tables also looked like they hadn't been touched for a while. There were no "stains" or that kind of dirt in the room except for the shower that could have been nicer. It had some small black dots all over it - mold or some other grime? Sheets and towels were clean even though the towels could use a change since they are either bad quality or worn out because they were quite sheer.

We enjoyed our stay at the XX Settembre - the staff were friendly and helpful. A cut above hotels of a similar price in Rome.

It was within walking distance of evrything that we wanted to see and close to the Metro and Roma Termini train station.

We recommend it.

Good quality hotel, and really good value for money in central Rome, where hotels are traditionally expensive. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, especially Gianluca at reception, who made very good first impression and was always helpful and very friendly throughout our stay. Room was small but tastefully decorated and very cosy and had all you need on a short-trip (free WI-FI, safe, hairdryer, TV, phone, aircon, extra pillow and extra blanket and even bidet in bathroom). Mattress was too soft for my taste (I prefer hard ones but many people feel uncomfortable on hard mattresses). I, perhaps, should also mention, that room was not in the same building as reception, but just across the street in literally 20 meters, so no problems with that. Breakfast was included, not very great, but OK for the price of the room (a selection of pastries, oranges, apples, ham and cheese, and etc.). Location is great, easy to find and just 4-5 min walking from Termini station and Piazza de Republica, 20 min to Spanish steps. Will stay again.
