Owner description: The Museum in the beautiful setting of Villa Borghese in Rome preserves sculptures, reliefs and ancient mosaics, and paintings and sculptures from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The collection, made up initially by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the early seventeenth century, preserves masterpieces of Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Raffaello, Tiziano, Correggio, Caravaggio and beautiful sculptures of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova.

First off, we had the most amazing guide for this visit (Lindy) who spoke beautiful english and was so enthusiastic about the Gallery it could not help but rub off on her clients! The art and statues are amazing. The history about the Borghese family is fascinating! Be sure to tour the adjacent park after seeing the gallery. They also rent surreys and segways at the park which can add to the fun.

We enjoyed the museum. On our visit we rented audio sticks but we found them confusing as they did not match up to art work in a few locations. Order your tickets ahead of time.

the paintings on the ceilings and walls exceeed the vatican in my estimation. One would swear the paintings that are so 3 dimensional are actual carvings and not flat paintings. I am not not an art devotee but I was visibly favorably impressed, and my wife who does appreciate art was blown away by the detail, scope and quality of the art

This was something I have never done and you need to plan for it, like the last supper in Milan. It is an amazing collection and so much it was almost overwhelming at times for me. Between the setting, the rooms and then the art it is a must see.

This is not the "one museum to see if you can only see one in Rome". Period. The National Museum near St Maria Maggiore or the Vatican Museum, to name two, are infinitely more interesting and diverse. However, if you go to Borghese you will see about three fine world class marble sculptures
