A museum that no one who visits Rome for culture, should miss! With the Vatican Museum was this the best we have seen in our 3 times visiting Rome. MAGNIFICENT, everthing!!

We bought tickets for a guide ahead of time, and strongly recommend you do the same. There is so much to see, having an art historian explain the significance and relationship of one sculpture to another was a real plus. There are several companies doing tours, and it can get a little confusing at the meeting point, so get there a few minutes early to make sure you're standing in the right queue.

Once inside, most of the good stuff is on the ground floor, and you only have two hours, so you have to be selective about what you want to see. They also have almost no places to sit anywhere, which is a negative for someone who wants to spend some time really examining a particular work of art. One last thing, they don't allow bags, purses, backpacks or big coats - if possible, leave all of that at your hotel, or in your car in the trunk. The alternative is tossing it in a big communal bin that is locked, with the key given to your guide.

One option is to do the grounds, which you want to do if you have the time.

Although we were advised to make reservations well in advance of our trip - we could hsve saved time & money simply showing up early when doors open. There were no lines (off season) and we got right in. The artwork, sculptures were phenomenal and because we arrived begore thd scores of tours started appearing we had a nice pleasant time.
There was a rsther large portion of the palace which was being redone and was blocked from view so that was a disappointment.
All in all a very nice gallery to view. But, if you are willing i would reccomend just showing up at open time to forego crowds.

Prior booking mandatory. Only 2 hours provided to tour this exquisite collection of sculptures and paintings. There is an ongoing exhibition of some of Picasso's works now.

This museum is huge and holds one of the best and largest collection of masterpieces we have seen. Be prepared to spend a few hours here. A definite must visit while in Rome.

We went on a tour of the Gallery Borghese with Matteo through Gray Line tours (Skip the line: Borghese Gallery and Gardens Small Group tour) , who was so informative. We learned a lot about sculpture, so valued in Rome and throughout Italy. A small group gives you so much flexibility and opportunities to ask questions.

From the outside you would never imagine how large and what a collection it holds. One of the greatest museums in the world. Don't miss it while in Rome!

It’s a wonderful place, where you can find amazing masterpieces of artist like Caravaggio, Canova, Tiziano. It could be a little crowded even if you must book in advance but you shouldn’t care because it’s amazing and full of unique art.

The Gallery's website did not work well in ordering tickets online, so I purchased through Viatour. I bought 2 tix for the Gallery entrance at 3pm on a Sunday two days in advance. You have to get there early (15-20 min prior) to find the Viatour representative (a small guy in a non descript t-shirt holding a small sign out in front of the crowded gallery entrance) and check any bags, including small purses, into the bag check. At the time of you tix reservatuons, the rude staff lets you into the gallery to view the paintings and sculptures at your own pace. Recorded headset guides can be rented for 5€ in the same area as the bag check.

There is a lot to see, but the best stuff is definitely the Bernini sculptures, Caravaggio paintings and the frescoed ceilings. There was some kind of temporary art exhibit throughout the gallery of random Picasso pieces, which i thought was odd and in great juxtaposition to the permanent collection. Its already over-saturated with art, why would anyone want to cram even more into such a small space? Anyway, the sculptures were the best to see in person, and some of the best Caravaggio paintings were away on loan so they were not available at the time. We got to see everything in 40min, and then left. It was pretty crowded on a Sunday afternoon in November.

We saw a lot of art in Rome! But the Borghese by far was my favorite! Our tour guide was through Walks of Italy. Each room showcases a sculpture by Bernini. Just incredible. I highly recommend you see this with a guide unless you have a degree in art history. Also advance reservations are required.
