“VERY NOISY!!!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Our room was located right next to construction. We were awoken by banging hammers about 8 am. We called the reception desk who said they would inform the construction crew and ask them to begin a bit later but that never happened. The reception would also give us different answers to questions we would ask. The internet was terrible as well. The rooms are comfortable but not worth it if you are going to be woken up by construction!!

Room Tip: I would not stay here again unless you do not mind construction noise at 8 am when you are on vacati...

We were relocated to BW Blu Hotel because the hotel we had reserved suffered an electricity blackout of 2 floors.

Surroundings of blu hotel are not nice. Highways, car repairs shops and such. About 1 km walk to metro/train station. Beds are poor and rooms noisy, walls must be paper thin. Breakfast ok. Showers are tiny. T

hey have free WIFI but even eith full wifi signal in the lobby it doesn't work half of the time.

Met my family for one night in the hotel due to the proximity to the bus station. The hotel was going through renovations and some people were trying to sleep because they were jet lagged. That wasn't going to happen. The noise was very loud. Also you CAN NOT walk to the bus station like the web site says. Well you can but it might take an hour. The service was good. The manager was apologetic and offered us free drinks. Everyone who worked there was helpful and very nice. If you want to see Rome I advise you to stay more central. Even if you need take the bus- do the same and just pay for the taxi- I think your experience will be better.

Just to start, there is a renovation going on at the hotel (installing solar panels etc.). This information is still NOT visible on the hotel's own website, where one would look for this information when making a reservation in a totally different country (the notices at the hotel are not sufficient enough when making a reservation through Internet and not in the hotel lobby). We gave this feedback many times during our stay and complained about the noise...no effort was made (now I'm referring to the answer from the hotel to one previous TripAdvisor-review) to stop the work or do anything to the times of working (in the morning they started every time between 8 am - 8.30 am).

It seemed that the only thing that was done during our stay was this adding of notices around the reception area about the renovation, but if you tried to complain, the only thing we got was a change of rooms, which did not help with the noice, since the whole building resonates, when they use the drills. Propably the quietest place in the hotel was the reseption area, so maybe the staff should go and visit some of the rooms to see the real situation amongst the guests.

For me it would have been a real important thing when reserving the hotel to know of this kind of renovation, since they are also working in my home apartment building during this whole summer doing renovation work. My main thing was to get one week away from that noise, but no, due to the renovation at Best Western Blu Roma I did not get a chance to rest on my HOLIDAY (exception on Sunday...which seemed like a miracle at that point).

But since NO NOTICE was given (our reservation was made less than two weeks before arrival to the hotel and one would assume that by then people would know about an upcoming renovation/ really understand that ongoing renovation could be a MAJOR PROBLEM) anywhere, we could not make any decisions according to that information and relied on the fact that there would be no problems, as in normal hotels. Hence we made the reservation to Best Western Blu Hotel Roma...

Of course, if you are out the building at 8 am, this might not be a problem for you, as it was not for us for the first 2 days. During those days we were away at the centre for approximately 10 h each day starting early in the morning. Proximity to city centre is not really close, so not really an option to come and re-freshen during the day and return, unless you wish to use about an hour to the transportation alone. But after that we decided to get a very needed rest and sleep in the next morning...But NO, the drilling (which resonates throughout the whole building) started a little after 8 am and no way you could sleep in at that noise. I went straight to the reception and complained about the lack of information on the website etc. (which would have made an easy choice not to stay at this hotel at this time) and in the end the person at the reception agreed to move us to another room on the opposite side of the building from the drilling and stated that "they would surely not continue working during weekend". So we decided that we would accept this changing of rooms and maybe be able to sleep in the next day...nope, not a change in that either...the drilling resonates through the whole building (reception area was probably the most quietest one in the whole building). And luckily for that receptionist (he did not seem to be working during the rest of our stay) he did not get the complaint from me when the renovation continued through Saturday also...so no working during weekend...really?!?

Please inform your whole staff about these things, so everyone will give the same information! Also this would be useful with the air conditioning, since every single person had a different opinion on how you should set it in your room to get it working...when in the end the problem required a change of thermostat and some more bigger adjustments in the ceiling to get it working even acceptably...

Free wifi is a really good thing these days and if it would work as good in the evenings as it does during mornings, that would be more useful. Especially when every single channel in the television offers only programs in Italian, or dubbed in Italian. CNN was a really good find between hundreds of channels, but it discontinued working after few days, so good luck hunting for something to watch if you do not speak Italian...

We read some reviews that made us aware that this was a hike from the city center, but we too far underestimated the trek. Not only was it a 15 minute walk to the metro, but then a 15 minute ride to the city center, where you still had to walk to your sites. Now, I understand that walking is part of exploring most places in Europe, but since this was the last location on our trip, and we were tired anyway- it just added to our weary souls. Not to mention, Rome was our least favorite location in Europe. A good not about the hotel is the restaurant. We got a 20% off ticket upon check-in and free bottle of wine. Dinner was pretty good. And the waiter gave us free limonchello at the end.

This is a town worth seeing!!
We stayed at Best Western Blu for 4 nights from 10 to 14 th of June 2013. We are really happy with our choice. First of all the breakfast is very good and the ladies working there really helpful and nice ( Larissa and Catalina especially).
Room: very clean, the lady passed by every day. And believe me we are messy ( travelling with a 4 years old). The only problem is that at night we could very well hear our neighbours. Luckily they were tourists and tired so went to sleep.
The guy from the bar Cristian was really nice and helpful .
Yes, the hotel is far away from downtown but as soon as we discovered how to get there ( bus 409 to Tiburtina and from there the metro) we were really happy. And as I said we traveled with our 4years old son and when we were to tired we stopped, ate a pizza or a gelato and rested. We started our day at 10 am and back to the hotel at 8 pm. Except our last night when we did a night tour of the city. But it is not really WAW at night.
This city is amazing.
WORD OF ADVISE: when you go to Vatican City and they offer you a private tour with a guide so you skip the lines think twice. Your are going to wait until they have at least 10 persons and you don't really skip anything. Just a quiet visit at you own pace of the greatest place I ever saw, Vatican museum. The guide is rushing you thru and then when in the most important ( Sixtin Chapel) he is leaving you with no explanation. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the agency of our guide.
Anyways the hotel is a good combination of quality and price.

I say it right out off the bat, the worst hotel experience I have ever had... More for the reasoning later, first the positives though.
POSITIVE
Rooms are clean, quite nice and good quality, beds are comfortable and shower has hot water and so on. Breakfast is available from 7-10 and has some good variety; 3kinds of bread, sausages, hamn, vegetables, srambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, jugurt, mysl, many sweet pies and such, coffee and juices. Pretty much everything what one has learned to expect from good hotel. Hotel also has its own restaurant.
NEGATIVE
Oh, where to begin...
First of all the location. Hotel is very far from city center. It takes around 30-40mins to get to center. Taxi is one option but it is +20euros a direction. Otherway is thru Tiburtini metro. From hotel to metro is about 15-20mins walk (around 1km on very narrow walkway). Other way is by 409 or 545 busses. However busses in Italy seem to come and go as they please. You might get lucky and hit a buss right away or wait 15mins at busstop. Busses are usually very full so prepare to stand. Bus takes 5-10mins depending on trafic lights. Metros usually goaround every 6mins except in late evenings where they can go every 15mins. Busses run to midnight, metros 23-1 depending on day. Because of the distance you pretty much have to get to center, stay there whole day and come back. Option of returning back for hotel for small rest or refreshing yourself isnt an option.
Free Internet isnt working from 2nd floor upwards.Connection was on and off and we tested it with 3 different devices. On first floor it works okay sometimes but especially at evenings it cqn be really slow. It took me 35mins to check my emails.
Those are still problems one could overlook but rest cant. When staying in the hotel there was some renovation going on. Apparently they were installing some sun paneles to the hotel. HOWEVER, THEY THOUGHT THIS ISNT WORTH INFORMING ANYWHERE!You just wake up every morning 8-9 into heavy rock drilling noise that resonates thru out thebuilding. Sleeping is absolutely impossible! This happened on every day but sunday. People book hotel to GET A PROPER GOOD NIGHT SLEEP! It was impossible here.
Attitude of the people in reception needs a lot of work. When we complained about the noise we were moved to other room but it didnt help at all. Noice was still there. Also the new rooms air condition system wasnt working. We immediately informed eem about it and they treated us like if we just didnt know how to use it. After several more complaints, +12hours later we finally get someone to come to see the system. The thermostat is broken and it was changed but within 15mins it was apparent that it was not the only faulthy part. Again complaining about it we just get excuses on how we are using it wrong and so on. In the end the complaining worked though and we get second maintenance guy to check it out and he finally repairs the air conditioning... This was FULL TWO DAYS LATER!
I suggested that we really should get a good compensation for our troubles and pretty much making our vacation a hell but so far nothing. Cant recommend this hotel to anyone :(

Dear Juha-Matti R, thank you for writing a comment on our property and thank you for pointing out the many positive things you have found: good quality of rooms, cleanness, breakfast.
As for the location, it is clearly written on all our web sites that we are at 700 meters from Tiburtina Station and by bus and metro you can get to Colosseum in 20/25 minutes. Not so bad in such a big city!!
We are enhancing the wi-fi system. As for the works, we have put information signs EVERYWHERE ( hall, desk, lifts etc) indicating the times of beginning in the morning and the end in the afternoon. During this time usually our guests are around Rome. We also suggest that, if one should need to rest during this time, we would immediately stop the works. No works overnight for sure!
As regards the air conditioning, guests very often set off the system accidentally and we have to set it up over and over. Anyway we apologize for any inconvenience. We usually give 20% off at our restaurant GRANO DURO. As works will come to an end, if you consider staying with us again, you’ll be welcome. Sincerely Adele Pagani pr
