Colonna Traiana (Trajen’s Column) is a Triumphal Column located in isolation at one end of the Traiana Forum ruins, completed in AD113 and depicts the Emperors victory in the Dacian wars. An internal spiral staircase of 185 steps lead up to a viewing platform (not sure if it’s accessible as area closed for a public holiday when we visited). Amongst the over 2,500 figures and 155 scenes, Trajan himself appears 58 times!

There are some places in Rome every tourist should see. The Traian Column is a must. A beautiful peace of architecture and expression.

The Colonna Traiana and associated ruins are well worth viewing if you are in the area, but not worth a special visit. Most tourists are likely to walk past the column at some point in their visit to Rome.

This was a featured stop along our Roman Forum carriage ride. Our driver was wonderful and made sure we had a chance to see all the highlights along the way. This is the column with 23 levels. So beautiful.

Near the monument of Colonna, there is a great place in which there are a small number of shops with beautiful Italian clothes, shoes and accessories. Here, local lawyers like to take a break, have a meeting and have a drink, sitting under the arches of high ceilings made from the color mazayka of this center, good wine or espresso. I recommend to visit when you are tired of a long walk through the streets of Rome.
