“Room with a view”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

My teenage daughter and I spent 5 nights at the Il Palazzetto in June. It was my second stay at the hotel.

It is one of my favorite places to stay.

The Palazzetto has only 4 rooms. It also houses the Wine Academy of Rome and a terrace cafe.

LOCATION
I love the location and that you can walk almost everywhere. On this stay, we tried the metro - which is right next to the lower entrance of the hotel. There is an American Express office on the piazza and I have used them for getting train tickets.

ROOM DECOR
Our room, number 1, was large with a wonderful big window that looked right out at the Spanish Steps. There are two Louis XVI style velvet chairs and a round table set up in front of the window and we would have happy hour looking out at the view. It is the perfect arrangement.

All of the design details in the room are beautiful from bleached hardwood floors, frescoed walls, and inlaid marble details in the bathroom.

At the Il Palazzetto you feel like you are staying in a secret room, entering through an upper locked garden gate.

DETAILS
There are nice extras like turn-down service and coffee/tea making things in the room. The windows are insulated and close out all of the noise plus there are interior shutters that make the room even quieter and block out all light. Strong A/C.

Everything in the hotel is immaculate and very well maintained.

The included breakfast at the Hassler is luxurious. The dining room is formal and the breakfast buffet presentation has some beautiful pastries and other choices. High quality food.

Service is professional and friendly. Everyone speaks English if you desire it.

I can't imagine that I could find a hotel in Rome that I like as much as the Il Palazzetto.

Room Tip: Room 1 is the only room with frescoes. Room 2 is a corner room with more windows but a less direct v...

A hotel experience that lives up to its reputation. It was so nice to stay at a hotel that has all the polish and charm a 5 star hotel should. The staff were fantastic - their restaurant suggestions were the best I have ever had from a hotel - the room was very big with quality linens and bathroom accessories and the view from our room was worth it all, right on the Spanish steps. Great experience.

Why can't Italians understand the importance of customer service???? This hotel is beautiful and the location is gorgeous even though a bit too touristy (right on the Spanish Steps in Rome). But the service and lack of professionalism is horrible. I fell in love with the rooftop bar and wanted to plan a birthday aperitivo on the rooftop. During my stay, I asked for the person in charge and was told that she had left for the evening. I then proceeded to call 5 TIMES and left my name and number for the event manager - Cristina Cellini - and she never returned any of my phone calls! When I complained to the reception (during my FIFTH attempt at calling for information on holding an event), I received a typical Italian response "I don't know what to say" as she is trying to talk over me (another concept that is difficult for Italians to understand: "the customer is always right" they just don't get it). It's such a pity that so many beautiful places are ruined in Italy due to the lack of care and professionalism by the management staff and employees.

We had a beautiful room, with a perfect view of the Spanish steps.
We checked in at the Hassler, please give the address of the Hassler to your cab driver, it is easier to reach.

Check in was smooth and efficient, and we were escorted to our room by Antonina, who was helpful and friendly, and also recommend a great local restaurant for lunch "life" a few blocks away, which was also lovely.

Our room was beautifully furnished, lovely big bed with perfectly crisp bedding. We had a very good sized bathroom, with bath, rainforest shower, enormous sink and crisp white towels by the plenty.

The ladies on the downstairs desk are great, very knowledgeable and helpful for restaurants and bookings.

Every evening we had turndown service, with slippers and mats laid out - lovely touches like this, make all the difference.

The roof top access for this boutique hotel is also great, you enter through a gated area of the roof, and descend through a bar, meanwhile everyone on the Spanish steps looking up and thinking, how did they get there ! Stop off at the bar and sit and have an aperol spritz or bellini, nibble on olives and watch the world go by. However this is not the only access, you can also enter by the base of the Spanish steps and take the lift up ! :)

Breakfast at the Hassler is accessed through the roof top bar and a few seconds across the street. A good selection of hot and cold food and continental foods are available, with lots of juices, and great cappuccino. If its warm its lovely to sit out and take breakfast in the courtyard garden.

At the base of the steps you can go on a horse drawn carriage ride around all of the great places, Trevi fountain, The Pantheon, The Coliseum - do it, it is fab, when we were there it rained but we pulled up the carriage roof, bought some horse chestnuts and sat cosy and warm snuggled up in the back, perfect for a romantic getaway !

When we next visit room, we will definitely stay here .......

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1, it was lovely and a great view.

This was our fourth stay in our favourite room 2 in the Palazzetto. It cannot be beaten, it has three windows overlooking the Spanish Steps and the room is light and airy. The lovely ladies at the desk are quite unbelievable, they are simply superlative. Nothing is too much trouble for them and one is always made to feel special and so welcome. For breakfast one has to go over the road to the Hassler where breakfast leaves no wishes open. The breakfast staff are delightful. We had a young lady named Jessica taking particularly good care of us along with Graziela but all the staff were attentive. The owner Mr. Roberto Wirth, places utmost importance to the fact that all his guests are given VIP treatment and his staff take this very seriously. For us there is no better place to stay in Rome: Il Palazzetto, a little dreamlike palace where the world stands still and old fashioned values apply. It really is one of our favourite places on this planet.

Room Tip: Room 2 is definitely the best one, one hits the jackpot if allotted this jewel:)

Il Palazzetto is a lovely 4 roomed boutique hotel on the Spanish Steps that is serviced by the Hassler hotel (concierge, check-in etc). They also include a continental breakfast at the Hassler - but watch out that you dont go a metre too far on the buffet, the cheese is not included (really!!).

The rooms are lovely, although the TV service is erratic and strange, does not work. Dont try the bath in room 3, the tapwas installed on the wrong side, one cannot use it.

The staff (Daniella and Beatte) are friendly and helpful.

Stay here is you can get room 1 or 2.

A 5 star room not close to the Spanish Steps but right on it. Entry from the bottom of the steps or from the top. Hassler Hotel facilities part of the package. But nothing beats a first class room with a killer view and an outdoor patio next door. Walk to everything. Will be back.

Room Tip: Try hard to get room #4
