“Fabulous!”
Reviewed December 4, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I spent 5 days on honeymoon in Rome this year and couldn't have spent it anywhere better. We stayed in the sun space, a lovely well furnished apartment with TV, ensuite bathroom kitchenette, and a constant supply of fresh fruit and breakfast goods supplied by Rosa Maria.

Rosa Maria was basically like having an Italian Mum who speaks perfect English. She was so kind and will really go the extra mile for her customers, recommending places to go, booking lovely restaurants in trastevere and orientating us to Rome. One of the most lovely aspects of her kindness, was when we got to Rome my wife had brought her wedding dress so we could receive a Sposi Novelli blessing from the Pope. Unfortunately in the mad rush to go on honeymoon, she had forgotten to pack the lace cord that tied the dress up at the back. Rosa Maria gave us perfect directions to the shops of where to find the cord, and rang us personally to make sure we had got it. In short, we wouldn't have met the Pope without Rosa Maria because my wife's dress would have fell down, and they don't like that at the vatican.

Rosa Maria looked after us from the moment we landed by arranging for a car to meet us who then rang her while he was on the way to the apartment. until the moment we left by arranging our transfer to the train station.

After Rome we stayed in a 4 star hotel in sperlonga where the service was really nowhere near as good.

This was our second stay at Al Colonnato di San Pietro - five of us spent a total of 9 nights here. Rosa Maria was again extremely efficient to deal with and was in contact with us the day of our arrival to check that our train was on time which was just as well as it was delayed an hour. She was waiting for us on arrival, gave us very welcome cool drinks and then rang Mr Claudio to book us into his restaurant in the street below. Meldi was her usual bright and cheerful self, providing tasty breakfasts every morning with beautiful fresh fruit salads, delicious warm rolls and croissants and also capuccini and hot chocolate and much else. Rosa Maria booked us into various restaurants of our choice, arranged the booking for the Borghese Gallery and also arranged transport to the airport on our departure day.

What puts this B&B in a class of its own is the care and attention of both Rosa Maria and Meldi, they go above and beyond what is expected. To give an example, one of our friends needed to see a doctor and Rosa Maria insisted on accompanying us to the hospital and then when they suggested we go to the eye hospital, she accompanied us there too which was much appreciated.

For location, comfort and care you cannot go beyond Al Colonnato di San Pietro.

My girlfriend and I spent three nights here in late November 2013 after reading the excellent reviews on this site. Before this we stayed in a two bedroom suite at the Westin Paris Vendome with our own private concierge yet we enjoyed our stay and service with Rosa Maria and Melda 100 times more! Both my girlfriend and I are professional travelers and have stayed in more hotels than we can remember and while there are some insignificant drawbacks at Al Colonnato the overall experience ranks in both of our top five in the world for a hotel or B&B.

Service:
The best way I can describe the service would be to say Melda and Rosa Maria treat you like their own family. They think of what you will want in advance. Order a second cup of cappuccino the first day and the second morning your 2nd cup is ready at the last sip of the first. They're there when you need them and not when you don't, which is a rare talent of any service minded provider. Our first night we were picked up right after our flight by a private car that Rosa arranged for us. The driver was on time and extremely professional, he stayed with us after the drop off and called Rosa Maria to let her know we were there, the wait was very short but we were very impressed he stayed to insure our hand off was smooth. The recommendations were FANTASTIC! Rosa recommended a restaurant down the street from the hotel and it rated among the best of our stay. Also check out I Quattro Mori only a block away and order the tasting menu, this was our best meal and experience in Europe ever. When it comes to service here, you will be impressed.

The Room:
We stayed in a room with a en suite bathroom. The room is small and a little dated. However it is immaculately clean and well appointed. Candy, travel guides and anything you want is in the common room. The bathroom is remodeled and very comfortable. The room is like the service, it's comparable to staying in the guest room of an old loved ones house. Quilts take the place of comforters, cleanliness takes the place of modernity. If you're travelling to Rome to explore then you'll be happy. If you plan on being a homebody in the ancient city than I recommend staying at the chain hotels in Kiev during winter. To the people concerned about the room with the bathroom outside of the room, relax, we never saw anyone staying there the whole time and the b&b was booked.

Location:
A stones throw away from the Vatican. An easy and safe walk there either at night or during the day. Not many tourists around and the restaurants near by are filled with locals, bishops and the like. This could not be better. The metro is about 5 blocks away and the bus stop is right outside. If you prefer car services or taxis than they are cheap as well. I have stayed in multiple locations in the past through out Rome at very expensive hotels yet this is the safest I have ever felt, perfect for kids, couples and everyone else.

Overall:
We were happy, you'll be happy.

My wife and I spent 3 days at Al Colonnato di San Pietro and could not have chosen a better accommodation than this. Rosa Maria was there to greet us and spent time with us, showing us around the apartment and providing us with a daily itinerary complete with maps and even the use of her cell phone while we were in Rome. Rosa Maria made reservations for us for dinner which she recommended and the meals didn't disappoint....they were absolutely fantastic. The location was perfect as we were a short 5 minute walk to St. Peter's. When we return to Rome we will definitely stay at Al Colonnato di San Pietro.

Outstanding on all fronts. Rosa Maria was great, helpful, and genuinely cared about us having an unforgettable experience. We stayed in the furnished apartment and had fresh fruit, juice, coffee, bread, cereal, etc...everyday day, which was included in the room price. The room had a balcony, great bathroom with shower, iron/board, umbrellas. It was clean, quiet, safe and in a great location. You really feel like it is home. We just can't say enough positive things about Rosa Maria and her rooms. Stay here, you won't regret it. Mike and Victoria.

We recently spent 4 days in Rome with another couple. Our stay at at this B&B was beyond our expectations. Another couple we had been travelling with was also able to stay for one night. Since there are only three rooms, we felt like we were in a suite! The rooms are spacious compared to the size of room in most places that we have stayed througout Europe.
Meldy prepared a fantastic breakfast each morning. This consisted of fresh fruit, rolls, crouissants, juice, and cappachino. She makes a great cup and always prpared a second for us.
Rosa Marie was unbelievable with her recommendations and helping us plan our itinerary. Each morning she would help map out our day and means of transportation. we bought the three day Roma pass . She even accompanied us to the bus terminal to make sure we got on the right bus! She would make reservations for us each night. All were perfect and reasonably priced. We especially liked the La Vittoria around the corner from the B&B. Claudio, the owner, was always attentive and friendly.
The B&B is across from the Vatican. Perfect location and we could walk almost anywhere!
We would highly recommend this B&B and have already shared the details with many friends planning to travel to Rome.
