“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

The landlady, Rosa, was very gracious and helped us a lot. We wanted to explore Rome a bit on foot, walking to landmarks and such, and Rosa sat down with us to mark maps and restaurants and recommended sites. She even gave us a local phone to use when one of ours' died. Then, in addition to her help, the place itself was very nice. We had a party of 4, two adults and two kids, and the apartment was spacious enough to allow everyone to move around without discomfort. There was a Carrefour nearby, so we could just walk down to get food and groceries whenever, and the small sink-and-stove allowed us to cook. The location of the apartment is very convenient, as the Vatican was just less than 10 minutes away, walking distance. All in all, a very good place to stay.

As described the owner is a lovely woman who goes out of her way to be helpful
The rooms are super clean, well appointed and very comfortable. (Her rooms were some of the largest we encountered in Europe. Super small is the norm but here we experience high ceilings and even a writing desk... sheer luxury)
The location is at the back of the Vatican which means you are able to walk to most attractions.
If not the bus stop is located within 100 meters. The owner warned us about pick pockets on the infamous 64 and she was totally correct. We say a pickpocket in action and it was not a young person rather a 60 odd year old man wearing a suit. He just looked like an old guy. So be warned pickpockets are rife all across Europe and they could be anyone.
Within 100 mts of the rooms are some lovely restaurants and small store where you can purchase essentials.
The owner (Maria Rosa) had some recommendations as to restaurants and she was spot on with her recommendations and the restaurants will give a discount if you mention she has sent you. We went on a fine foods tour and tasted the best of Rome and I have to tell you the restaurants she recommends are not far of that quality. So in my view her recommendations were sensational and do you self a favour and take her advice, save some money and spend it on another bottle of wine on the money you save.

Oh by the way a taxi transfer is 48 Euros to the airport. Ask Maria to arrange a transfer and its 50 euros and you get a chauffeur driven car at your requested time... we felt like millionaires being dropped off at the airport in a chauffeur driven Mercedes.

Would I go back... hell yeah!

Room Tip: Ask for Maria-Rosa's tips on restaurants... You will not be disappointed!

Rosa Maria organised a pick up from the airport and then met us at the B&B. She only has one interest, make sure you have as much information as possible and to make sure you are happy. The breakfasts were fantastic each day, we left early some days and breakfast was organised for us the night before. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. It was such a treat to stay at this luxurious B&B and I would highly recommend anyone visiting Rome to stay here. Rosa Maria recommended a restaurant around the corner which was very reasonably priced and we ate there 4 nights in a row - so good!

Room Tip: We had the green room - absolutely gorgeous.

This was my husband and my second time staying with Rosa Maria. Last year we spent a wonderful week in her beautiful Sun Room. This year, while traveling from Bologna to Palermo, we squeezed in two nights in Rome, partly to see Rome again, and partly just to see Rosa Maria. She is a lovely woman who runs her bed and breakfast with such care and affection that while staying with her you feel like you have had the great fortune to have made a friend for life.

This visit, while staying in the main part of the B & B, we got a chance to meet Meldy, who was also lovely -- and makes a great cup of cappuccino.

If we are lucky enough to ever spend time in Rome again, we can't imagine staying anywhere else.

We stayed here last week for 4 nights and have to say were extremely impressed by the efficiency and standard of service provided. Rosa Maria responded to emails prior to our visit extremely quickly and kindly helped organise an airport pick up which took us directly to the B*B (I'd definitely recommend using this service). She was there to greet us on arrival and took time to get to know a little about us and to find out whether we needed help with any bookings, directions etc which was greatly appreciated.

The room itself was lovely and clean - it was a tad small but that wasn't too much of an issue as we weren't there much. The air conditioning works great and the bathroom was a good size.

Meldy brought us a lovely breakfast each morning - plenty of fruit, croissants, yoghurt etc - we very rarely needed lunch after that!

The service offered by both Rosa Maria and Meldy is what made staying here so lovely. Both are so enthusiastic about offering advice if needed and take time to get to know their guests.

I'd highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Rome - it's nice to get away from the bustling crowds whilst being only a 10min (max) journey on the bus to the central locations. (The #64 bus stop is outside the B&B and goes along the main road where you'll find Piazza Navona etc). St Peter's is a 2 minute walk away.

A big thank you to Rosa Maria and Meldy for making our stay so lovely

After an 18-hour flight, we were greeted by a Pick-up service arranged by Rosa Maria at the airport. She was already waiting and greeting us at the B&B when we arrived. Rosa Maria has been a very good host, helpful from the first day of our communication by emails, promptly replied by Rosa Maria and also with Meldy, her warm and friendly assistant have made our 4 days in Rome so memorable. It was just like having new found friends. The location of the B&B was superb, only 7 minutes away by foot to St.peters Square. Bus stations to Colosseum are also nearby and eateries are just around the corner. The green room is spacious and spotless clean, highly rated by my athmatic husband who is always sensitives with dust. Bathroom is clean, and of course, we will definitely missed Meldy's breakfast and cappucino.Rosa maria and Meldy, we will miss you. Malisa & Shah

Our trip to Rome was a surprise for my Husband's 40th and a such I wanted it to be perfect but affordable - an impossible combination! A friend recommended Al colonnato di San Pietro B&B and thanks to her I found affordable perfection in spades!
The service from Rosa Maria and Meldy was outstanding and is what makes this B&B gem. From helping us to navigate the streets and public transport, to recommending and booking dinner reservations, to unforgettably singing happy birthday in English and Italian to my bemused Husband to presenting us with a bottle of Champagne - all amazing, thank you so much.
The rooms are spotless, a good size, comfy beds (firm), with aircon and free wifi. The location is superb, 500ft from the Vatican with brilliant views of the Basilica. Jump on the 64 bus located a minutes walk from the front door and Rome is your oyster!! St Pietro train station is a 10 minute walk and the metro is about a 15 minute walk. We packed a LOT into 4 days and we only ever used the buses. Just to give an idea its about a 20 minute stroll to the pantheon if you prefer using your feet. A truly unique and personal experience - we will be back. Hannah & Geoff.
