Our family visited Rome for the first time last April of 2012 and after reading a lot of good reviews about Residenza Canali ai Coronari, we decided to book with them. We called them up and the reservation was a breeze! Was an easy ride to the hotel from the train station and there were a lot of cabs available. When we arrived at the hotel, we were definitely not disappointed! A charming hotel with character! We stayed on the 3rd floor (though we really wanted the room on the 4th floor with a rooftop terrace--unfortunately, it was booked already) and the room was perfect! Wooden floors with a lot of ample space. There were two double beds with a flat screen tv in one area which was near this huge and beautiful windows (though our view was another building which was too close to the hotel and the alley below us), huge closet which was across a dresser table with a small refrigerator beside it , a huge bathroom with a bath tub, hot water, blower, towels, and all those little toiletries. The best part were the wooden beams on the ceiling... Gorgeous! Pros: Best location ever! Very near Piazza Navona literally! Walking distance to a lot of good sites (bring comfortable shoes!) like the Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, pantheon, etc. Great service and very helpful staff who happily helped us or advised us where to find good, authentic, & affordable Italian restaurants. They were also friendly enough to show us some good walking tours which we could do for ourselves. Breakfast was inclusive and they serve some good cappuccino. I love also the fresh breads but my fave would be the cake or desserts. Value for your money. Safe and secured locks on their main doors. Cons: Steep stairs (difficult if you're carrying a lot of luggage). Must try: Zio ciro restaurant but a better and affordable place to dine would be this italian resto just at the corner near zio ciro. Definitely will stay here again! Highly recommended !

Location is everything when you visit the eternal city. This was our first trip to Rome. What a cute little hotel. This trip was my 50th birthday celebration. The first 3 nights we were in the top rooftop terrace room (401). Great room with a lovely rooftop terrace, although lots of stairs to climb to the 4th floor. If you're not into stairs, get a room on the lower floors. The morning breakfast room is small but cheery. Nice to wake up to great coffee and decent pastries. Safe and secure this place is steps away from the lovely Piazza Navona. The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Vatican are all within walking distance.
The suite rooms seemed a bit pricey, but hey this is Rome and the location is important. Would like to see them upgrade the flat, thin pillows. The curtains and bedspreads are a bit tired but clean. Like the wood floors and high ceilings with exposed wooden beams. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this place to friends visiting Rome. The staff is kind and helpful to English only people like us. They will help book tours and make reservations for guests. Pleasant staff and accommodating service. Great milestone birthday stay.

Room Tip: Rooftop terrace rooms worth the splurge. If your not into steps go for the regular non suite rooms...

We visit Rome at least twice per year and this is our hotel of choice. When traveling with our children, we typically reserve three star properties since we are in Europe several times per year. This is within our budget.

We have stayed at Residenza Canali for several years and several visits. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the hotel, in general, is quiet due to the small number of rooms. Street noise is at a minimum, as the hotel is tucked away.

Cons: If you have a lot of luggage, it is difficult carrying your bags up the stairs to the 1st level and possibly up further levels. However, this is minor.

Pros: Great cappuccino in the morning. The staff are all very accommodating and nice and take care of every need. The rooms are well appointed, there is a mini fridge, drinking glasses, and the bathroom is clean with nice towels and a nice shower.

We have stayed at other properties as well but always return to Residenza. The location is superb, and since it is tucked away, quiet. A good value for your money.

We stayed in Residenza Canali ai Coronari 4 nights in February 2013. I travelled with my 3 kids (aged 14, 10 and 10) so the location and safety feeling were important to me. Residenza Canali is a very charming place and situated in a quiet side street. We had a very good sleep there after busy days. Locations is excellent with very beautiful and lively Piazza Navona to be reached in 5 minutes and Pantheon to be reached in approx. 10 minutes. The area around hotel is very, very charming and there were many cafes and restaurants very near. Campo Fiori is also nearby. It is possile to go by foot to many of the main sights in Rome.We walked to Vatican and even to Colosseum. The hotel is very clean and has sort of "old fashioned" style in a very positive way. The staff were very kind and helpful. We had a wonderful stay in Rome and were very happy with our hotel in all aspects. When travelling to Rome next time we would be pleased to return to Residenza Canali ai Coronari.

This hotel has a FANTASTIC location off a fairy-tale street in the heart of historic Rome -- within walking distance of most of Rome's major sites, plus great restaurants. It also has a wonderful, knowledgeable staff, a delicious complimentary breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms and the price is very reasonable. I won't even look at another hotel when I return to Rome -- my stay here was great! No complaints.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, away from the main road. And do yourself a favor and visit nearby Piazza Na...

Although, not a fancy hotel or room, it was larger than expected. It seemed to be a recently refurbished room (especially the bathroom) and it was very conveniently located. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. I liked being right upstairs from a street with stores; it was very convenient. I would stay there again.

It is important to know that getting a hotel with "wow-factor" in Roma without emptying your wallet is almost impossible. We came to Rome after visiting several fantastic B&Bs/hotels in Sicily, so we were a bit spoilt. We chose Residenza ai Canali because of the location. When visiting Rome in 2011, we stayed in the same area and loved it. The service was also very good. When we had to call the hotel twice to rearrange our transport from the airport because our plane was delayed from Sicily, they helped us out. We had a superior double room with terrace. The terrace was very nice although we didn't use it because of rainy weather. The bathroom and the breakfast were also OK (don't expect too much from breakfasts in Rome). But the room was tiny and in the breakfast room the tables were situated so close that is was almost impossible to walk to and from the buffet. This room was our second most expensive hotel room in 2012 (out of 18 hotels). But NOT the second best! But this is Rome! Will we come back to Residenza ai Canali? Perhaps yes. Time will show. We will definitely come back to fantastic Rome very soon!
