“Terrific local”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

I consider myself very lucky to have seen Elizabeth Minchilli's review of Il Vinaietto 2 years ago. It took us there the first time and it became our local. We would stop in almost every afternoon for a glass of wine and for sound advice about what wines to buy to take home for dinner.

In daytime, Mathilda hosts a group of regulars who come by for a glass with their lunch. She's terrific with newcomers; chatty, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful if you're looking for a recommendation. If you go back a second time you can be a regular too.

At night the place is usually packed: people spilling out into the street. The sensibility remains the same, though: good wines at very reasonable prices.

“Il Vinaietto”

This is actually a wine bar, (no food) which we happened to find just before a huge thunderstorm hit!

Near the Campo Fiori this is a great local wine bar that stocks over 500 different types of wine all of which they will serve by the glass.

We were there in the afternoon but were the only tourists, the remainder of the clientele being locals. Apparently in the evening people spill out onto the surrounding streets.

The décor is nothing to write home about, but the service is good and we had a great time trying some lesser known Italian wines which they pointed us towards! As well as trying the wines by the glass you can buy the bottle to take away. All wines are reasonably priced for example I had a delicious Gavi de Gavi which worked out at 19 euros a bottle.

Unfortunately there is no food but a stones throw away is one of the best bakeries in Rome which sells the traditional white and red pizza as well lots of other mouth watering delicacies which they were more than happy to let us at eat the table.
