“Thanks Tripadvisor!”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

Our hotel (Sant Anna) was just up the street (Pio Borgo) from this restaurant and when we arrived in Rome I knew just where to go thanks to Tripadvisor. Like someone said, go past all the other restaurants with their pushy waiters trying to get you to eat at their restaurant. When we went there for dinner on our first night, the owner was standing outside having a smoke. He greeted us warmly and invited us inside. No one there speaks much English but their menu does include English translations. We had so much fun and great food. The carbonara was delish and my wife's gnocchi was out of this world - nothing like we have in the states. On our second night, there was a group of women from Pennsylvania (where we're from) and two priests. Soon we were all talking comparing food, wine and stories. A great night. That night we went all out and had a four course meal. Everything was great and I miss it already! Like I said to my wife, "Where are we going to eat when we get home?"

“What a find !!! A true gem in the crown of Italy.”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

Tiny little place with a huge personality ! Don't be put off by the menu in the doorway or the quaintness of this restaurant. The food, wine, atmosphere and owners are not to be missed. Go back a few decades, this is what it should be like eating in Rome, dinner guests are locals, priests & the famous. Sit facing the huge mirror you can see everything in the restaurant without a turn -- surreal ;-) loved it -- will be back.

“Enjoyable, Relaxing, Excellent Dining Experience”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

We were fortunate to have this excellent little restaurant (seating about 24) literally across the street from our vacation apartment on Borgo Pio. We found it to more than meet the many positive reviews here on Trip Advisor. The staff is indeed friendly and attentive, the food terrific, and the prices fair. The decoration of this small space is eclectic-- ranging from the dazzling, ornate, enormous crystal chandelier to the funky deer skull and antlers gracing the wall to the grand mirror on the bck wall---but it works to create a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. We were well pleased with spaghetti carbonara , the Bolognese, the eggplant parmesan, and the veal saltimbocca. If you like flan, try the crema catalana. Pizza is not served at Borgo Antico.

“Excellent...”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

We came on my birthday last 17th of October to celebrate my 50th anniversary and it couldn't be better. Alessandro & Davide host a lovely small room like their home making every body feel like part of their family. The house bruschetta is absolutelly beautiful and the Spaguetti Carbonara the Best as the quality of the Wines mastered by Alessandro. Great example of a restaurant for those who appreciate Food & Wine. And they don't do Pizza... Wonderful...

“Fantastic food with warm and friendly service”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

This place is tucked away towards the end of a main strip of restaurants just out of Vatican City. Most of the restaurants along this strip have outdoor seating and are at first appearance more appealing than this place but most are rated quite poorly on TA.

It's a tiny restaurant, seating around 20 in very close quarters and feels more like a lounge room than a restaurant and has no outdoor seating. We were a bit hesitant at first but were all starving so decided to give it a shot.

This turned out to be a very good decision as the food and the service was both excellent. For starters, we had melon and ham, mixed brushetta and eggplant rolls stuffed with spicy peppers and breadcrumbs. The melon and ham was nice but the other 2 starters weren't highlights for us.

The mains were all fabulous though. I had eggplant parmigiana and it was totally delicious - the tomato based sauce was one of the best I have had in Italy. The kids both had a tomato based pasta and again it was delicious. My wife had a gnocchi & sage dish with large discs of gnocchi and just a little cheese based sauce. It was like nothing we have tried before and it was very nice. My father in law also had mushroom risotto which he said was excellent.

We all had dessert which included 2 chocolate fondants (absolutely divine), tiramisu, creme brulee and crema gelato. All were excellent and we were totally stuffed at the end of the meal.

The service is all very good and you do feel like you are eating at a traditional Italian family home rather than at a restaurant. The lady chased one of the guys selling roses out of the restaurant which we all found very amusing and were thankful to not be pestered by these guys yet again.

There is very limited space so it gets full very quickly and it would be easy to miss out on an opportunity to eat here. Definitely give this place a try and either get there a bit earlier or ring and book in advance.
