We tried il Tajut based on the recommendations of others on TripAdvisor - and we were certainly not disappointed and very pleased we did try it.

The food and service are excellent and the wine selection is amazing. We were immediately made to feel at home on arriving - and indeed the whole restaurant atmosphere is as though you are dining in the owner's home. We were even serenaded by one of the local diners on the piano.

This is a 'must try' restaurant if you are in Rome!

Ate in this area all 4 nights but this place we stubbled across at 10.30 on sunday eve after we d been to the opera. Thought everywhere was going to closed but then saw the chef standing at the doorway looking out as there had just been a down, yes they were open and so we entered this lovely little place, quirky, candles, wine racks and book shelves, a paino and so friendly. had a lovely bottle of Merlot recommended by the lovely girl who served us and also had the menu explained to us. We had some brushetta with minted peas and lardons, a selection of local cheeses and marmalade, then a famous roma dish of thick spagetti, garlic and tomatoes which the chef served at the table out of the pan ! Finished off with a glass of dessert wine on the house, a 3 course meal for 2 with a bottle of wine 55 euros! Best meal of the trip :)

I really, really, really wanted to give this place a fantastic review. It seems that either the Italians are exquisitely nice people OR they're all great actors who can fake a warm welcome and friendly attitude so well you can't tell the difference. "IL Tajut" is a quaint little restaurant in a quiet street not far from the Colloseum, it has an extensive wine list and a remarkably efficient and pleasant waitress and a friendly and very Italian chef - all the necessary ingredients for a wonderful meal. There's only one ingredient missing and that's good food. The starters were OK except for the amatricina Pasta the chef proudly brought to our table which has an "off" after taste. The real let down came with the mains which included the house specialty "Salmon Tartar" - it took almost 45 minutes to prepare, we could actually hear the chef pounding away in the kitchen, dicing the fish into tiny cubes. Finally it came to the table, 30 euro worth of fine fish diced into microscopic cubes and seasoned with salmon eggs to an unberable degree os saltiness! I was able to coonsume about half of the dish with the help of excessive amounts of bread and wine but then I had to succumb. If only they had good food...

24 July, 2013 - A Friulian resturant between Il Giovanni in Lantera and San Clementi 2 blocks from the Coloseum.
The evening was so hot the thought of food was unappealing. We stopped into 'il tajut' for supper, what a pleasant experience: the staff was warm and welcoming; the ambiance was subdued but a rich textual tapestry of form and color; and the food and wine was just what we needed, light and flavorful and accompanied by a very nice little Friulian wine. Perfect for the weather.
The four of used ordered a selection of starters without a main course 6 or 8 of them, as I recall, and explained that we wished to share in order to try more new things. They were more than helpful and even entered into the spirit of the evening, making excellent suggestions and being happy to serve 'family style'.
They are only open for dinner, as we discovered when we tried to take another couple there for lunch but it's well worth a stop and we will be going back for diner tonight, our last night in town.
