“Stunning little place in the heart of the action”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

We booked this place after reading the great reviews here and they were justified.

The place is perfect in a fabulous location for walking to all the great places to visit in Roma.

Massimo and his staff are great and very helpful.

The email they sent us to book entry tickets for the Vatican and Colosseum saved us hours of queueing.

Breakfast is simple and plentyful. With tea and coffee to hand all day and night.

The place is clean , tidy and very comfortable.

Lots of great little touches that make all the difference like a notebook and free wifi.

My husband and I just returned from spending 3 weeks in Europe, and Inn Urbe was hands down our favourite place we stayed.

This Inn is run by the friendliest and warmest staff I have ever encountered.

The customer service was EXCEPTIONAL! My husband was offered toast our first morning, and he declined, casually mentioning he was gluten intolerant. We returned back to our room that night to discover gluten free snacks waiting for him.

The next morning, they had gluten free bread, cookies and desserts for him at breakfast. And packed a bag of snacks for him to eat during the day.

The Inn's location is ideal; lots of delicious restaurants around the corner on Via Urbana and within walking distance to all the main sites.

The rooms are very modern and comfortable; they look exactly like they do on the website.
http://www.innurbecolosseo.it/

Beautiful high ceilings, high end finishes and toiletries in the bathroom and the most comfortable bed we slept on during our vacation.

We felt right at home; it was amazing to be able to use their espresso machine and have fresh coffee throughout the day.

We would definitely go back to Inn Urbe if we were to return to Roma. Our family is traveling there in the fall and we have recommended they stay at this B&B.

Looking at the reviews from before and after we stayed at Inn Urbe, it is difficult to believe we stayed in the same place. Hopefully this review will offer some balance to people contemplating staying at Inn Urbe - we had our expectations built up by the reviews on TripAdvisor and the Inn Urbe website yet we found the reality a little different.

First, the positives:
A great location, very close to the Colosseum (5-10 minutes walk) and the Monti area, where we found some good bars and cafes. The location is really very walkable to everywhere, we got the subway to the Vatican but were able to walk everywhere else. The netbook in the room is a great touch, we found it really useful and were able to use it for online check-in for our flight home. Fabulous rainfall shower - two showers a day each meant we were were really grateful for the daily towel change! The price is fairly decent for Rome, where it is obviously very easy to pay a lot for accommodation like any major city. It was also spotlessly clean.

The negatives:
The rooms on their website look really sleek and contemporary - in reality they are cheap and come across as quite cold. We found it all a bit sterile, like sleeping in an Ikea showroom! The floor particularly is horrible, it looks like a cheaply painted shop floor. If I were the owners, I would add a few homey touches (e.g.pictures on the wall, a rug perhaps) to avoid it feeling like a soulless box. Our 'double' bed was actually two twin beds covered by a fitted sheet, not ideal and something we hate. We requested a non street facing room so it was quiet at night but unfortunately there seems seems to be little insulation room to room so we could hear a lot of noise from the room next to us. We could also hear a lot of noise in the morning when breakfast was being set up and when people were entering/exiting through the front door, which woke us up several times during our stay. Breakfast was pretty poor (cheap packaged pastries, cheap awful bread, poor quality fruit which was scarce in quantity anyway) and generally quite sugar-heavy - even the muesli had chocolate in it! There were some meats and cheeses but again very poor quality. The cakes that are out during the day for guests are just the leftovers from breakfast and we saw one pastry (half a large tart) sit there for three days because no one was eating it.The staff at the B&B didn't speak much English, not a problem in itself but meant the service was very inconsistent (e.g. being offered coffee at breakfast some morning and not on others) and meant that they didn't pass on useful information to guests e.g. barely any tourist information, aside from a map being offered. They also completely failed to let us know that there was a bus/subway strike on one of the days we were there - it was the day we had tickets booked for the Galleria Borghese and had planned to get the subway up there so that information would have been useful to know. Luckily we'd left enough time to walk but it was a bit of rush and we nearly missed what was one of the highlights of our trip.

I would have probably given them a rating of 3 rather than 2 if it hadn't been for what happened on our last morning there whilst we were trying to pay. There was a problem with their credit card machine recognising our card and the attitude of staff member was appalling. She merely shrugged her shoulders and blamed our card. My husband ended up spending over an hour of our last morning on the phone to our bank where they told him there was no problem with the card and that it must be the machine it was being put into. We then tried our debit (rather than credit) card which was also rejected by their machine - spewing out pieces of paper that said something in Italian which the staff member knew we couldn't read so she said it meant our card wasn't working. I ended up on google translate only to figure out that the Italian meant their machine wasn't connecting! She refused to try our credit card again and would only try our debit card repeatedly (saying 'I think better' despite the fact that using a debit card rather than credit meant our bank would charge us fees but she didn't seem bothered about that). We eventually managed to pay on the debit card but her attitude was awful and her customer service skills were non-existent. I think this would have been the case even without a language barrier. I would advise others that cash might be a better way to pay here - be wary about using a credit card.

We wouldn't go back and don't think we would recommend to others, unless they simply wanted a base to sleep and didn't care much what it was like. It was a functional base in a good location but that was about it. Distinctly underwhelming and, whilst we loved Rome and wish we could have stayed longer, we weren't bothered about leaving Inn Urbe!

I can only subscribe to all positive reviews on Inn Urbe made in Tripadvisor. Its location is ideal, close to the Termini railway station but not too close, as the area surrounding Termini is not particularly nice. It is just off the Cavour subway station which allows you to easily reach other parts of the city like the Vatican. It is within 15-20 minutes walk to major touristic points (Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, etc.) The rooms are very modern and comfortable. There are extra features that I feel strongly that I have to point out: a) ability to use their expresso machine and have fresh coffee throughout the day b) having a computer with Internet access at your disposal at your room b) the prices charged for beverages in the fridge in your room are the same as you would have in a nearby bar, therefore you do not need to buy and carry them to your hotel room. All in all, I would certainly go back to Inn Urbe if I were to return to Roma.

My boyfriend and I spent a couple of days here in the winter. It was definitely a good choice. Walking distance from Colosseum and to a nice neighborhood. The staff is extremely nice, very very helpful and kind. They might not speak the best english but you don't need that in Rome. You need a cosy place run by serious people with a smile on their faces. Maybe the breakfast could be fancier although you do get anything you need, yogurt musli juices tea and coffee... Very clean and modern. Very nice rooms! I'd definitely recommend it to a friend (btw I'm italian!).
Thank you Inn Urbe for such a nice stay.

We only stayed at inn Urbe for one night, and we love this place. Their Beds were superbly comfortable. Rooms are modern and clean with everything you need. All rooms are equipped with flat screen tv, They have sky tv which we love as there are some english channels to choose from. There was some language problems so we used google translate in some instances, but this do not affect the great service provided.

Massimo was very helpful on the day we leave, minding our luggages until 6pm, and helped in calling for airport taxi (on a last minute request). He also called the taxi driver several times to check if he will arrive on time as we were worried that we will miss our flight.

Thanks Massimo and team for everything. Highly recommend this place!

Had a fantastic 6 days staying here, the rooms are lovely. The room was cleaned and the beds made everyday with a linen and towel change on day 3. Alessandra and her staff are friendly and although Alessandra is the best English speaker they all try, we actually interrupted their English lesson one day. Breakfast was amazing with a good choice ranging from juices, yogurts, fruit, cereal, cold meats and cheese, bread and pastries a great start to every day, during the day you can help yourself to tea, coffee and any pastries left over from breakfast. All doors are on a keypad entry system so no keys to worry about. All in all a lovely place to stay at a very reasonable price and if we ever go back to Rome we would definitely stay here again and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to friends and family.
