“Great staff”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Stayed here on recent trip to Rome as the hotel a friend had recommended was full. Great find! Our room was really clean, and good size but most impressed with the great breakfast and lovely roof terrace, very helpful English speaking staff ( particularly Alexandro on reception and the barman ( sorry didn't catch name) who were chatty and happy to help and recommend.
Great location for the termini although we ended up walking most places.
Would happily stay again .

Excellent location 5 minute walk from the Termini/bus station yet far enough away not to be distracted by any noise. Hotel reception area is small with no observable facilities, but staff were welcoming and friendly and offered a free upgrade on our room. Room itself was modern and clean and the large comfortable bed was a blessing after a hard day's sight seeing. Mini fridge bar prices were not exorbitant and free bottles of water available.

Excellent complimentary breakfast served on the roof terrace and offered cooked eggs, bacon and sausage in addition to cold meats, fruit, pastry and cereal. In the evening the breakfast area is converted into a bar and offers a wonderful opportunity to unwind with a relaxing drink on the roof terrace looking over the sights of Rome.

All tourist sites reachable from bus, tram or metro 5 minute walk from hotel.

This hotel was booked by a family member for our Rome trip and it was a good choice. Very convenient location and pleasant and helpful staff. Its just minutes walking from Terminii station.
I asked the hotel for restaurant recommendation and very happy with their suggestion of Ristorante Regina with a short walking distance from hotel. There is a restaurant Caffe Giuliani
on the cornor as you exit Hotel Independent on the left and don't bother go there-we went there at 4pm when there was just one other table in restaurant for coffee and pastry. When I got bill it was most expensive coffee €4.50 versus most restaurants €1.50-€2.50 but more importantly the small pastry was €2.50 and they charged us €5.00 (double) because we ate in restaurant and the same applied to my wife. This is the type of rip off that one encounters from time to time and I detest such taking advantage and gives all restaurants a bad name. So keep away from such places.
On a more positive note we also got a recommendation on another restaurant "Ristorante Armando" P. le Tiburtino and it was a gem. Family restaurant with great food and service at reasonable prices. It was a €10 taxi drive from hotel and off the tourist track but worth it that we went back a second time.
Another point don't take a taxi from Vatican-walk away from the area and get a taxi with meter.

Room Tip: Request room with balcony

The compromise on this hotel is that you are not in downtown Rome. In all other respects, it's pretty much perfect. The hotel is located just along from the main station (Roma Termini) - an area with all the amenities you need, including a very nice cafe on the corner of the block - so it's about a 15 minute walk to most of the major sights. The sightseeing buses depart from the station, however, and there is also a Metro stop.

Check in and out was efficient, the room was incredibly spacious (big bed, table and chairs, chaise longue) and although it overlooked the street (and was on the first floor), we were not disturbed by road noise. The reception area is very small and the fact that there is only one lift for an eight storey building means you might wait a while for it if staying on a higher floor. The eighth floor is a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city which is very pleasant and is also where the breakfast is served. Would definitely stay again if we return to Rome.

Excellently positioned hotel. Less than 5 minutes from the main station and easy to find.

All staff very nice and welcoming. Reception staff very helpful. Very good English ( thank goodness!)

Stunning 360 degree views from the rooftop restaurant/bar. Lovely to watch the sun go down. Can't be many better vantage points in any hotel in Rome ( literally) as there are no high rise buildings.

Bar has just opened which was very pleasant - very nice barman.
We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts.
Rooms well appointed and very clean. Wifi was very good.

Very quiet, despite central location.

No complaints. Would happily recommend.

Room Tip: Probably at the rear although we had one room at the front which was not noisy.

Very close to the train terminal, room was nicely decorated and spacious enough. Room floors is dirty with full of hair. Breakfast is satisfactory, the best part is you can view the whole city when sipping your coffee and tea at the breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lobby of the hotel is extremely small if everyone checks in or out at the same time it gets too crowded. Electronic door keys keep deactivating so you need to walk downstairs (as the lift is always busy) and get it fixed. Well, nothing is perfect but this hotel is still ok in my view.
