“spectacular views / quiet spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

The tranquil Garden of Oranges (Giardino degli aranci) also known as Parco Savello, affords fantastic views of the many monuments, roof tops and domes of Rome, including St. peter's Basilica. The park is behind the ancient Basilica of Santa Sabina, and beside the Piazza Pietro d'Illiria. Aside from views there are orange trees (obviously) and a place to relax and unwind from the chaos of Rome. I ate an orange from the tree and it was quite bitter, even though it looked ripe.

“beautiful and quiet place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

An oasis in the midst of a very busy city. We went in may and the wonderful smell of orange/mandarin flowers enchanted us. The view is superbe and you can also rest on a bench or directly on the grass.

“Small oasis in a big city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

I've lived in Rome for 5 years and this is one of my favorite places. It is a perfect getaway from the crowd and the heat (and trust me you'll find both in Rome), and still you are not even 2km out of the city centre where all the attractions are. You can rest on the grass or sit on a stone bench enjoying the shade of high stone pines and orange trees. There is an amazing and very romantic view of the St Peter's Church from the terrace that is so well designed that even people who suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights) can step on it and admire the the city from above. It is not the highest viewpoint but is the safest. If you start panicking you are just 5 steps from the solid ground, in the park and there is a fountain where you can drink from, you can see the children happily running around, people lying on the green grass, reading books or making sketches, eating their snacks...... Since it is very small park it is very secure, not like Villa Borghese where someone can steal your things or assault you, especially if you are a girl and on your own. Never heard any ugly story about this place, just that those oranges taste horrible.

“Great view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

We were taken to the Giardino degli Aranci by a local, as we would never have even known about it otherwise. The view of the city from the garden is wonderful! We could spot attractions such as St Paul's Cathedral and the Monument to Victor Emmanual II. The Garden was pretty empty too, which was a lovely change from the crowds of the city. We could sit under the orange trees and rest while smelling the lovely faint citrus smell. There are also some old stone water fountains for drinking - the water is lovely and cool. Was definitely a highlight of my time in Rome

“I loved it”

It takes a long walk to get to the door and finally peep through the lock, but it is worth doing it. The view is breathtaking.
