“Fabulous people. Great location”
Reviewed May 7, 2008

From the moment we arrived Sam & his staff made us feel so very welcome.

The drink and sandwich on our arrival was most welcoming, so was the sunshine.

Our room was just fine, clean, quite and the bed was great.

Breakfast was available to us whatever time we went over to the cafe. It was wonderful to sit out in the sun and have great coffee and all you could wish for food wise.

All the staff made our trip great by booking at a restauran in one of the squares that Sams friend owned.

We walked into the square and most of the restaurants wanted you to dine with them and one was quite insistant, and Sams friend walked out of his restaurant and said "hello Mr & Mrs Elliott, please follow me".

That was cool, we felt like we were treated like a family member by Sam and all his staff and by people who he knew!

Nothing really was to much for these kind people.

Sam, being a Roma fan even offered to take us to the football game. Rome V Man U.

Well he even managed a huge smile at breakfast even though his team lost. Him & his staff were loads of fun and could not do enough for us.

We had a fabulous time.

This hotel is in a brilliant location, a couple of streets from the Vatican, and was the perfect base for three days in Rome. We walked absolutely everywhere and found the hotel was close enough to everything for us. If you can't be bothered walking it is also close to a Metro stop and the Metro is very easy to use.

The staff are really friendly and helpful, actually quite charming, and did everything they could to make our stay a good one.

The room is not big, which seems to be typical of Europe, however it was very nicely furnished, comfortable and serviced really well every day.

I would certainly return if I am back in Rome, and also recommend this hotel to other travellers.

my wife and I knew there was going to be problems from the time we walked up to the address that is stated, the door locked with the hotel sign right there. After ringing the bell the recepionist ran across the street from a cafe and told us the check in was there. We were brought to our room which was around the corner. We walked through a building that had a odor of sewer. After being brought to the room which has extremely gaudy decor there were a large quantity of flys in the room ( because the windows were open, per staff) once we were in the room there was an awful smell of pesticides(?) in the room. We both got headaches from it right away. It was so bad that we asked for a room change. We had plans so we left before the next room was available. When we returned the room that we were given was half the size had the same smell but not as strong. the bathroom was the size of a phone booth. If you have anysize to you you will not fit into the shower. the opening is less than a foot wide. the toilet seat was cracked and if you washed your hands the faucet was one that belonged on a bidet (poor speller). The manager or clerk was an arrogent and a jerk (I'm being extremely nice) he asked us to leave because we were actually expecting what we were paying for. Don't stay here!!!!!!!!

My partner and I were moved to this hotel after our original hotel couldn't take us due to water problems or something. I have to say I was initially disappointed as I had spent a long time, using Tripadvisor, researching and deciding on a hotel to find that all of that counted for nothing! But as soon as we arrived at the hotel we were given such a warm welcome from everyone! Sam was very helpful as were the waiters etc and they really made our stay special! The set up is a bit strange with rooms in 3 different buildings, all close together and the reception is also a cafe where you have breakfast, but it doesn't matter The breakfast was excellent - a good selection of fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, yoghurts and paninis with the added bonus of no time limit!!! So if you want a lazy morning after a few too many glasses of wine you don't need to worry about rushing down to breakfast before it finishes because it's always there! You could eat as much as you could fit in and they were even okay with you taking some fresh fruit for your day out. The decor is traditional, with an extremely small shower cubicle (this was the only downside - so if you're on the large side not sure it's the hotel for you!) but all kept clean and made a comfortable stay. I would definately use this hotel again because the staff were helpful, friendly and genuine - no pressure to tip but you feel like you want to in the end because they genuinely deserve it. The location is excellent -right next to the Vatican, near lots of shops and restaurants and ideal as a base in Rome! I would definately stay here again.

  • Liked — The location, breakfast and the friendly staff!
  • Disliked — The small shower cubicle and the price (although it seems to be expensive anywhere in Rome!)

We stayed just after Easter. Sam who runs the hotel and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our three person room in building opposite was clean and quite large. Breakfast was good. Anything we asked for was fixed and no trouble. Good local restaurants. Short walk to Vatican, 15 minutes to edge of city of Rome, 2 minutes to metro (clean and safe even at night) and only 1 euro to reach Colloseum in less than 20 minutes. Can't fault it.

Great Hotel for location and personal touch. Really good welcome from Sam (Samuel Beckett!!) and his staff. Unusual set-up from my perspective, reception and catering across the road from the hotel - but it ceased to matter shortly after we arrived. Rooms are not huge (which can be expected in a Europen City hotel) but we really only slept there at night so not an issue. Clean, good food, really really quiet. This was my second stay in Rome, last time stayed on Via Nazionale, and couldn't sleep with the traffic on the street (perhaps huge trucks are allowed to traverse the city by night - but I didn't want to hear them). But Chambres d'Or a heaven of peace. Really near St Peters and Vatican, so forget about taxis. Also, you can pick up the 110 open top bus at St Peters, for €16 per day you can see all of the city, start early and get off everywhere you wish to view close up. Also going to St Peters on a Sunday, get there early (which you can easily do from Chambres d'Or, as you only need to walk for about five minutes). Enjoy.

My husband and I just returned from a week's holiday in Rome staying in Hotel Les Chambres d'Or. This hotel is so well situated , being literally around the corner from the Vatican, Metro, Open top Bus & good shopping streets which is a great bonus when on holiday. We had a most beautiful bedroom situated on the 4th floor of the building across the road. It was a pleasure to go through a courtyard with orange trees on our way to our room. We did all the usual trips, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps etc. We went to St. Peter's Square on Easter Sunday for the Mass celebrated by the Pope & also his Easter blessing . This was the nicest city break we ever had and, of course a hotel is only as good as the staff and, they made our stay so enjoyable and memorable, we had such good times with them wining and dining and having such a laugh. So, on behalf of Gerry and myself I would like to thank Sam, Vita, Rezvan, Alessandro and Junior for their friendliness and courtesy at all times. When I tossed my coin into the Trevi Fountain I made a promise to myself to return soon as we didn't get to see half of this most beautiful city and countryside and lovely people and, of course will stay again in Les Chambres d'Or. Accommodation was lovely and towels were changed every day. Overall, we were very impressed with all aspects of this hotel and would highly recommend it to travellers to Rome. Ann Fehily
