We stayed at this wonderful hotel for four days in June. The weather was hot and of course we were busy all day having a great Rome adventure. This hotel was a cool, relaxing and wonderful place to return to each evening. The staff, especially the staff in the evening, was always courteous and helpful. The morning breakfast was great value. We hope to can return again.

My husband and I stayed four nights at the San Pio in late May. It is a lovely property oddly located in a very upscale residential neighborhood. The rooms, service, staff were all very good. The problem for us was that it is a good bit out of the way from many of the sites in the central part of the city. It was too far away to drop in for an afternoon nap as with our other city hotels. The one way cab ride from the center of activity costs about 8 Euro. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this would be a good choice. I would have preferred something closer in.

Room Tip: As the neighborhood is very quiet, any of the rooms would probably be ok

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the positive comment about our Hotel Villa San Pio. We are very happy you appreciated a special place like Aventino Hill.
It’s a residential area where you can enjoy the beauty of the gardens, far away from the bustle of the city. The Hotel Villa San Pio is in the centre and in the fifteen minutes you can easily reach many of the best archeological site; passing through Circo Massimo, there are Coliseum, Foro Romano with also the Trajan’s market with its large complex of beautiful ruins built in 100 AD, where free wheat was once distributed to the people of Rome! Anyway Rome is a very big city and it’s full of ancient churchs, fountains and monuments. Its historical center is very wide, probably such as an entire city!

We’ll be waiting you soon, in our Hotel Villa San Pio, for another unforgettable trip in the beautiful of Roma.

This hotel is up on the Aventine Hill, in a very quiet location--you can walk down to the Circus Maximus area quickly (and to its metro stop) or almost as quickly, up to the Pyramid and its metro.. The rooms--I got a double for single use, asked for a quiet location, and it was a nice sized room, lovely modern bathroom (marble, nice linen hand towels and good bath towels). The staff is very friendly. The hotel consists of several different buildings around a central garden area, and my room faced that inner greenery--birds in the trees. The buildings are in the architectural style of the neighborhood as a whole. All very pleasant as an experience. The room decor is nice but you have to like the style--see the hotel website and there are pictures. And I have heard, but didn't experience, that some rooms can be small.

The breakfast buffet is one of the major draws of this hotel for people: full breakfast with eggs, cheeses, meats for those who eat them, fresh delivered rolls and croissants, yogurt, fruit, all to be eaten in your choice of two indoor rooms or an outdoor area. They'll bring you a cappucino.

No regular restaurant in this hotel the rest of the day. But lots of good places to eat quite nearby (I recommend the casual style Angelo & Diavola pizza just a little ways up San Saba Street, quite close by, one of the best in the city, knowledgeable friends say.)

There is no functional wireless in the rooms themselves, though it works in the main lobby, and the cable connection provided was sometimes very slow; it is free, at least. No coffee maker in room, but there is a stocked mini fridge into which you can tuck your own sandwich if you want. Room safe provided. It was cool weather when I was there, so I can't comment on the air conditioning, which I know matters to people who go to Rome in the warmer months. Housekeeping staff were friendly and good.

What I loved was a) the quiet room and b) being able to wander the nearby area but also get down to the rest of Rome pretty easily. Walking distance: the famous Knights of Malta keyhole through which you can see Saint Peter's, several interesting old churches, the Non-Catholic Cemetery where Keats and Shelley and various other luminaries are buried, the city Rose Garden (open and at its height when I was there in late May). A good walker has no problem getting to much of Central Rome and back from the Villa San Pio--it's not that steep a hill. In all, I really enjoyed everything except the lack of really good wireless.

I used the hotel's car service back to airport and got a really friendly driver in a nice limo. (My bags were just too heavy to do the much less expensive walk to metro option.)

For a slightly more upscale experience, the San Anselmo Hotel just up the hill has the same owners--four star, where the San Pio is three. I chose the less expensive of the two, and for my purposes it was perfect.

Nice hotel with short walk to colliseum. Basic continental buffet.

Staff is very friendly and helpful.

I Would recommend to those interested in a hotel with quick access to main tourist sites, but in a neighborhood having less a touristy feel.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the Villa San Pio. From the reservations via email to the reception to the checkout all went perfect. This time we only stayed for 2 days prior to our cruise. Everyone at the front desk went out of the their way to be helpful. The room we stayed in was quite large for European standards, very clean with a good sized and up to date bathroom. The breakfast area was very nice with a great selection of food to get the day started.
The hotel is located in a very nice residential area away from the crowds of the city. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Forum and Colosseum.
We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Some will mention that the beds are firm. I would agree but I slept very well on them.

The hotel has friendly staff and our room was nice and clean with a lovely bathroom and a huge balcony (room 503). You get the safe for free, a great deal of hotels do charge for this, the breakfast is continental, plentiful and varied in choices, being a full English breakfast type of man I am hard to please when it comes to breakfast but I found plenty for me to eat.

This was the perfect hotel for being in walking distance (for the reasonably fit) to the ancient city, but with all bus routes and the Metro underground system just down the road it was also easy to access the attractions via the public transport system. We found the best shopping at Via del Corso leading up to Piazza di Spagma and Piazza di Popolo and all the designer shops and good restaurants.

I would recommend the Hotel Villa San Pio to anyone, but only at the right price.

Nice views from the roof terrace.

Room Tip: For a big balcony on the first floor go for room 503

We had such a fabulous time in Rome and a large part of our experience was the accommoddations and location of the San Anselmo Aventino hotel. WOW and so inviting. The layout of the hotel, the reading area, the outdoor seating, the guest services were so amazing. The price point for such a lovely hotel was outstanding. We have already told our friends about the wonderful atmosphere of the Hotel Anselmo. Gracie!

Room Tip: Our rooms for our stay coming to and returning to Rome were fabulous. We especially loved room 833...
