“Roman charm in Aventino hills”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

My son and I stayed at Hotel San Pio for six nights from May 2-7. I had stayed in one of their sister hotels, Aventino Hotel, for business and remembered how pleasant it was. Hotel San Pio did not disappoint, it was even better. The best thing about staying here is the location, Aventino Hills is a beautiful wooded area with charming villas and peaceful parks with a view of the Tevere. It is 20 minutes walk to Circo Massimo and 10-15 minutes walk to trams, buses and the Metro. The next best thing is the service, the staff are attentive, knowledgeable, efficient yet friendly and personal. Our booking was done swiftly and we were given a better rate when I asked them for it. Agapito and the other bar staff who served the breakfasts are troupers, they provided service that was fast and fun. The hotel has an inviting restaurant set in a pretty garden where breakfasts are served. The breakfasts were good with sweet and savoury selections although by our fifth morning, my son and I were ready ready for something different. The room was tastefully done, the size was just right, not cramped, we had a desk, good sized drawers and a safe. Our room was on the second floor with big windows that bring lots of light. In the morning, we heard the birds from the trees in the property. The bathroom is big, with a bath and a shower. The two issues I had were: the sound from the next room was quite audible and the bed was too firm. But these are minor imperfections that I am sure can be corrected. On the whole, Hotel San Pio is a delightful experience that is bound to complement any vacation in Rome. It felt like staying in a Roman Villa with gracious hosts.

Dear Mickey,
We are happy you had a comfortable stay with us and we really appreciate you shared your satisfaction with the Tripadvisor community.
It was really a pleasure for me and the staff to take care of you during your roman Holidays.
Our location is much appreciate because, even in the center of Rome, it’s far from the hustle and bustle of the city…it’s an oasis that not all have are lucky to know and visit!
We wait for your next visit next year and we suggest you to come in this period to enjoy the beauty of the spring season.

Just a short walk to all the main attractions -- this place can't be beat. The rooms had wonderful and charming character, the staff was terrific, the breakfasts scrumptious ... We give the Hotel Villa San Pio 5 stars -- thanks!

Room Tip: Our room was spacious -- slept 3, plus it had a large balcony overlooking the inner courtyard.

We originally booked their sister property but were upgraded to rooms at the San Pio. The staff was helpful, the room large and clean and the breakfast was good.

I would like to call out two excellent staff members who went above and beyond the call of duty to help us with any needs we had. Both Fabrizio (front desk) and Agapito (bartender, valet, security and many other duties) were exceptional. Both were exceptionally helpful and friendly and treated guests as family, instead of customers. Their knowledge of the city, helpful natures and personalities took our Rome stay from good to great. I hope San Pio recognizes what they have in these two employees.

it’s really nice to know you appreciate the professionalism and the services received by Fabrizio and Agapito. Both are ready to help and to take great care of each client’s needs and we would like them to feel at home.
Thank you for having appreciated the location of our hotel Villa S. Pio. The Aventino hill is a very quiet and residential area and it’s right, it’s not far from the center but far from the hustle and bustle of Rome.
Hope to see you for your next trip in the eternal city.

We had originally been booked to stay at the Villa San Pio's sister hotel, the San Anselmo. However, it was overbooked, and they upgraded us to the San Pio at no additional charge. This was a great bonus for us, as the Villa San Pio was quieter, and had a lovely garden location for meals. I'd like to particularly call out 2 staff members, Fabrizio and Agapito, as exceptional. These 2 gentlemen were knowledgeable, and took great pride in making each guest's stay perfect. Their customer service and attention to detail went above and beyond. The hotel's location is relatively close to the major sites of ancient Rome, and is just far enough away, in a lovely older neighborhood, to give you a bit of peace from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Yet it is located within walking distance of a number of nice restaurants with reasonable prices. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the garden side are a bit quieter.

Fantastic location close to the roman forum, beautiful gardens, friendly staff and nice breakfast. Room a decent size with jacuzzi bath. Would stay again! Also worth noting that there is a shower by the reception so you can have a day out once you've checked out and freshen up before your flight. Also there's a little used roof terrace with nice views on the 5th floor

The Hotel Villa San Pio was able to accomodate our family of 4 in 1 room providing a very cost effective 4 night stay in Rome. Prior to our arrival I e-mailed the hotel who arranged a taxi pick up from the airport to the hotel for us (50 euro). The hotel is set in a lovely peaceful residential area but still within easy walking distance of the Colloseum and the keyhole at the villa Malta with a unique view of St. Peter's. It is also situated near to reasonably priced restaurants for your evening meal. We received a warm welcome from the staff, especially Argepetto and were given a very welcome refreshing drink while we checked in. Our booking was for bed and breakfast and the food choice on offer was plentiful and fresh. Our room was spacious and clean and was maintained very well throughout our stay. We found all staff to be friendly and willing to help with a range of requests from booking taxis to assistance with the language. We intend to visit Rome in the future and would definitely stay at this hotel again and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others.
