“Perfect getaway”

3 of us stayed at the Villa San Lorenzo Maria Hotel for 3 nights. We stayed at other places during our holiday in Europe but this was by far THE BEST. Where to start with the amzingness... ANTONIO!!! From the very begenning of our stay Antonio was incredibly helpful and kind making us feel welcome and at home! Antonio was a fountain of information from restaurantsreservations to directions around the city to airport transfers and nothing was a hassle for him. Breakfast was also perfect with a wide variety of options and also where our first delicious coffee (having previously been in France where good coffee was rare) was delivered from Antonio himself. The room was quaint and comfortable with plenty of room for our stay. Rooms were serviced daily with very friendly cleaning staff as well. We took the tram number 3 most of the time to get to most places, being very convenient so close to the hotel.
If we ever return to Rome we will be coming back!

Room Tip: The 3 bedroom room had enough space for bags and was certainly worth the money. Ours was on the 4th...

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and can honestly say it was the best hotel we have ever stayed in, despite having travelled widely around Europe and the USA. The building itself is lovely to look at both inside and out. The rooms, individually decorated, are spotlessly clean and furnished in keeping with the outside appearance of the building. The staff are amazing - Antonio gave us lots of advice about getting around (saving us plenty of money by suggesting the most appropriate types of tram tickets) and printed maps out for us. Since we arrived on a Sunday evening, he explained that most restaurants would be closed. He then took the trouble to phone around a few restaurants to find out who was open and then booked us a table at one. The place he suggested was excellent and we would not have a) found it or b) been fitted in without his help. Breakfast was delightful every morning with a huge choice of good quality food and drink and the waiter remembered exactly how we wanted our coffee every day. Every time we went into the public area to use the Internet, Antonio or Pino brought us complementary coffees. The area outside the hotel doesn't look that great but it has character. It's safe and friendly and the restaurants are much better and much, much cheaper than those in the tourist areas. It's a short walk to the main station and about 2 mins to the tram stop that gets you direct to the Coliseum in one direction or the Vatican in the other. Rome is fantastic and having such a great place to stay made it all the more so. When we next return to Rome we will automatically book Villa San Lorenzo - it would be stupid to go anywhere else. (Antonio's money saving tip, by the way: we were going to buy a 3 day tram/bus ticket for 16.50 euros each. He told us that since Rome is so walkable, unlike London/New York, you don't need unlimited trips on the subway/buses/trams. So a single ticket in and out of the centre for 1.50 euros each way is good enough. He was right - our total transportation costs for 2 of us came to 18 euros instead of 33.00.

Room Tip: There really don't seem to be any bad rooms at this hotel.

My hubby and I took a train to Rome from Pisa, it was midnight when we got to Rome. We grabbed a taxi outside the Termini to the Hotel because the trains do not run that late. It was about 10 euro. I had let the front desk know we would be arriving late so they were expecting us. As soon as we walked through the gate I felt like I was home. It is a lovely little hotel in a not so lovely neighborhood. Don't get me wrong San Lorenzo is not awful by no means but this hotel is so quaint and romantic. The gentleman at the front desk was super nice and helpful. The room we had was small but so perfect for us, with a balcony over looking the front entrance, which is just beautiful (and this is February). It was a quiet hotel, we never heard anyone and I know there were others there because we seen them at breakfast. The bathroom was super clean, the shower is very small though. Breakfast was served from 730 to 1030 and is a nice selection and typical of European hotels. The hotel staff we engaged with were just wonderfully nice and delightful, spoke GREAT English and were very personable and helpful. There is no doubt that when we return to Rome this is where we will stay.

Myself and boyfriend have just returned from Villa San Lorenzo. After reading lots of positive reports i was very much looking forward to my stop and i wasn't disappointed. The hotel is located around the university area.
The area its self is not the best, looks wise but don't let it throw you.
The tram lines 3 and 19 are at the end of the road which was brilliant. Was so easy to access the Colosseum and the Vatican city via this line. All other tourist areas are easy to visit in walking distance from the Colloseum,
The hotel was lovely and staff were so helpful. We had a room on the 4th floor with a balcony overlooking the courtyard of the hotel.
We had a lovely big bed, with TV, large bathroom and hairdryer. Plenty of wardrobe space and our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels.
Breakfast was great. Plenty of fruit, yogurts, cake, croissants, toast, cheese and ham selection and if there wasn't something out you wanted they are more than happy to get you something.

Getting to the hotel is easy. From the airport Campino we got the shuttle bus which was 4Euros to the Termini train station. We then got a taxi to the hotel as it was late. The taxi cost 12euros.

Rome its self is easy to get around. The one thing i would recommend is the ROMA pass which
is 30Euros which includes all travel (bus, trams and underground) for three days along with two free tourist attractions of your choice the rest are then discounted. A lot of things you will visit are free which is great but the Roma pass does allow a cue skip at the Colloseum which is more than worth it when you see the cue.

I would be more than happy to return to the Villa San Lorenzo again. Thank you :-)

cannot say enough wonderful things about this charming hotel in a cool university neighborhood...

loved the staff! they made dinner reservations, held our bags while we were out of rome, got us silverware the moment they saw us walking into the hotel with takeout pizza, printed maps, patiently explained bus routes...on and on and on. and they were all so genuinely nice and such a pleasure to talk to! reservation was in a japanese name, and they had even learned the word for "room key" before we arrived. gotta love that.

the hotel itself is 60 seconds from streetcars that run directly to the manzoni subway station, the vatican, and the colosseum. grocery store filled with italian goodies is right next door.

the place has character (look at the pictures), and the neighborhood does, too.

great complimentary breakfast! even though the coffee's self serve they still go out of their way to fix it for you. warm baked goods, cold cuts, sweets, and yogurt - you'll be held over very nicely until lunch. and my wife reminds me that the blood orange juice was really tasty.

downsides? not really... i would have to say that for an american the shower seemed pretty tiny, but i guess that's it.

anyway, we have never written a hotel review before, but really wanted to for everyone at villa san lorenzo. thank you all for a great stay in rome! we'll be back. ciao!

I spent in this hotel a week and I really appreciate it. It is well located, there are several buses to rich all the most important sites of the city. I was in the 205 room. It was really clean and the chambermaid changed me the pillow case every day. I spoke with her and she was very nice with me. The breakfast was delicious specially because I really like the home-made cakes. If I had to come back, I would definitely choose this hotel again.
P.S. the young receptionist who we found in the night was very gentle and nice, explaining me everything I needed
