“Disappointed”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We booked a room in this hotel because of its proximity to the Olympic Stadium. After a long journey we arrived at the hotel near midnight to be told that they had overbooked the rooms and we would have to go by taxi to another hotel. Our room in the alternative hotel was so small with just enough space to walk around the bed. There was no place for our suitcases and the shower room was tiny.
The man on the desk at the River Chateau Hotel gave the impression that it was our fault for arriving so late on an evening when they were expecting many visitors for the Rugby match and the Rome marathon.
I don't think it is too much to expect that a booking be honoured.
We paid in advance and have no redress. Not good enough.

We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean and the bathroom was marble and well appointed. I liked that the room had a safe for valuables and FREE wifi all around the hotel. We had our 3 kids with us and enjoyed a room with king size bed and a sleeper sofa which was surprisingly very comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing! I think it was our favorite meal of the day. We were also pleasantly surprised with the turn down service. After a long day of seeing sites and walking, it was refreshing to see our beds and the kids' bed ready for us.

Although it was about a 10-15 minute taxi ride to the city or to sites we did not mind it at all. It was good to get away from the crowds into the quaint neighborhood of Ponte Milvio. The staff was always helpful and called us a cab every time and the taxi was always there within 5 minutes.

I have to say the staff is excellent! We left our stroller in a taxi the first day and notified the front desk when we returned to the hotel. Since they called the cab for us in the first place, they were able to track the taxi and have our stroller returned to us. This was such a relief since we planned on doing a walking tour of Rome.

I definitely recommend this hotel and our family will stay there again!

I've stayed here several times before and compared to many other hotels in Rome, this is certainly one of the better. The rooms are rather quaint but the restaurant and breakfast buffet are fine. Although it's not in the centre, Transport is not a problem. The staff are helpful and friendly. If you need somewhere that's decent value near the Stadio Olimpico then this will be fine.

Just spent a couple of nights at the River Chateau Hotel and want to say what an enjoyable experience it was. Excellent, helpful and very friendly staff, such a change from so many hotels in Rome, very clean and comfortable rooms and a fabulous, and also cheap, restaurant. All round I would recommend it highly!

Room Tip: Junior suites very nice and good value.

We arrived in Rome to find that the hotel we had booked and paid for didn't have a room for us so we were asked to stay one night at the River Chateau. as we were not happy. We were promised a free evening meal as compensation.
We arrived in our 'Double room' to find two beds pushed together, !!!
The Robe (one) in the bathroom was a nice touch until we noticed it was covered in makeup !! clearly used but not cleaned and replaced just hung back up !!!!
The meal was more fitting to a 'Bush tukker trial' (off I'm a celebrity, ) inedible !
The whole while we were in the restaurant two members of the kitchen staff sat behind us Talking very loudly.....why were they not in the kitchen? .
As we couldn't eat the meal we were given we asked for a dessert.
The look on the waitress's face was a picture, you would have thought we had asked for £1000 from the till...........!!!
One other diner in the restaurant finished his meal and we were astonished to see the waitress wipe his tablecloth down with her sleeve before replacing the cutlery for the next day !!!
Naturally we did not have the breakfast next morning that we had paid for!
4 STAR??? do me a favour .....Looks nice on the outside but a big let down on the inside.
Having visited many Hotels in many countries in my 55 years This is in the bottom 2.
Thank god we only had to stay for the one night.!!!
Dont waste your money. you have been warned.!!

Deae TripAdvisor Member,

thank you for taking the time to share your opinion on TripAdvisor.com. I'm very surprised that the hotel room did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately your room was set for just one person. I really apologize that the housekeeping as well as the Front desk did not solve the problem within few minutes upon the check in.
L'Osteria at the River Chateau Hotel offers traditional Roman food in a warm and frendly atmosphere. Our Chef usually welcomes personally our guest and gives suggestion regarding food and wine. At the end of the dinner, in a fully tradional Roman way, he asks for a feedback and often sits with guests in order to share their experience. He is not the cook he is the innkeeper. I do understand that this might be different from the common idea of an hotel restaurant, but "L'Osteria" is not just an hotel restaurant, it is something more.
I'm very sorry that you did not have breakfast the very next day because, as per previous reviews, our breakfast is outstanding with a wide selection of sweets, cold and hot meat, a selection of italian cheese, smoked salmon and so on.
If you'll give to the River Chateau Hotel another chance in the future, I'm sure you'll post a five stars review.

Kind regards

Michele Scandellari

A pretty nice place, comfortable big bed and nice clean rooms

The bar is a bit small and seems to be kind of an afterthought. A bit like they made the lobby and then thought "oh no! We forgot to put in a bar!" but regardless of that, it's a good hotel and breakfast was lovely.

If you don't have to stay in the very centre of Rome this is an excellent alternative. The hotel is luxurious, but not that expensiv. The staff is extremly kind and helpful, trying to accomodate your wishes. Serveral nice restaurants within walking distance.
