“Good start to organised trip to Italy”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Reception and bar staff were very friendly. The public areas are carpeted with settees (albeit a bit uncomfortable for those of us who lack height due to the very lengthy cushioned seats!) and have rich curtain fabric. The bedroom was very acceptable - large comfortable bed, reasonable size, with modern and clean bathroom. Pity about the small bath (didn't bother me at 5ft 0 1/2 but my husband of 6ft lasted only 5 minutes in it - he who normally loves a really good soak!). Pity also, but not essential, that the 2 English speaking TV channels were not tuned in.
Breakfast was OK - ample supply of cold ham, cheese, bread, rolls and cakes (none of which I like but husband loves). 3 different yogurts and tinned fruit also available (I would have preferred fresh fruit salad but understand the time it takes to do this. Unfortunately the coffee and hot water were lukewarm, and the breakfast room was over crowded on 2 of the 3 mornings we were there as 2 bus groups were attempting to breakfast at the same time. Staff in the breakfastroom were efficient - the lady in charge perhaps a bit brusque. The hotel had cooked a set meal for us on the first evening (beware if you are vegetarian in Italian hotels - omelettes seem to be equated with vegitarianism!) and it was OK.
WiFi is not free but room safe is.
Hotel is located quite a way from the centre of Rome, so is ideal for coach tours. Not ideal for individual travellers unless coming by car.

If you are happy to stay just a few metro stops from Vatican City, this is an ideal hotel. Rated 4* by Italian standards I would probably say it was closer to a 3*plus UK rating - there is no pool, restaurant service (except breakfast) or free WIFI. Hydrobath didn't work in either of our rooms. The lift is tiny - only big enought for two people with a suitcase each

Staff very helpfull. The hotel does not have a restaurant but there are a few in walking distance

Room Tip: Good location

Had a very nice experience with Pinewood hotel. Very courteous staff who are also flexible with the booking. I was arriving Rome by ship so the date of arrival was not fixed. The Manager took by booking via email, didnt ask for credit card details etc at the time of booking. Other hotels at Rome where I enquired required me to submit credit card details inorder to make the booking. (Am a little extra cautious so dont like giving details via email) So was pleasantly suprised when Pinewood was ready to take my booking without any hassles :)

On arrival, we loved the surroundings, we were given a nice spacious room with a balcony. Too cold to go outside since we travelled in Jan/Feb but very nice gesture by the manager. Rooms are very good and you have a nice Jacuzzi shower panel :) Very refreshing! There is a locker as well in the room incase you carry valuables and for your passport etc.

Staff was very helpful in giving us pointers to places to visit. Hotel is not very far from the Vatican and there is a Bus (no 49 if I remember correctly) that drops you right infront of the Vatican Museum and little further off from the St. Peter's Basilica. There is a metro station also which is near 10 min walk frm the hotel.

The only dissapointment we had was with the breakfast. Bread, juice and tea/coffee was all that was available! It would be nice to have a decent buffet breakfast. When your travelling with a toddler you would like to have some food in the morning. Rest of the meals dont really matter since you will be outdoors anyways. The staff were kind enough to give us a number of take away menu's of nearby joints.

Dunno if they have a fitness centre or swimming pool. Anyways it was freezing when we went :)Would love to visit again!! Would rate the hotel a 8/10!

Nice surprise. Driving up, I loved the "umbrella pines" pinewood park across from the hotel. The tub was nice. great bubble bath. Safe in the room was handy. I don't recommend traveling with all your cash in hand. I would stay there again. Lobby area is nice. There is a Restaurant down the way called Zio Frankie's, I dream of their Tortellini. The pizza is good too and the wine. . (San Lorenzo - Chianti). Yum! we ate their twice, we got a pizza "take away" and ate it at the outside seating area at the hotel. very nice.

Room accomodations met expectations. In room safe was a pleasant surprise. Quality of bath linens were better than most hotels, and room was quite clean. Lobby area was inviting and nearby in-house bar made socializing quite easy.

Although trip was part of tour group, hotel staff took special attention to needs of luggage, providing information, directions to self directed touring. Morning breakfast was always complete with enough selection, quantity and quality.

Good hotel to stay at!!

My traveling companion & I had frustration checking in with our return flight home to Calif due to the fact that we were traveling w/United but operated by Lufthansa which was a different flight than given on ticket. Rita one of their assistants eased our anxieties by helping us & even printed our boarding passes at front desk. If you visited that hotel, ask for her & you won't regret it as you will aid you doing your visit & tell her Rosie referred you.
