“Highly recommended for you budget trip to the Eternal City!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2011

Just came back from an unforgettable trip to Rome!!! We stayed at Taormina Hotel for 4 days and I could say it was more than a pleasant surprise! I read the reviews but I thought that they were a bit boosted for a cheap hotel in the center if Rome. Just the opposite- one can add even more superlatives!
The rooms are nice, the bathrooms - extremely clean. They change the towels and clean the rooms every day. The breakfast is repetitive, quite a lot of sweet things - but after all it's a two-star budget hotel, so it's better than nothing. The staff is great - friendly, helpful, they can give you lots of information and directions. Free internet access in the lobby, not in the rooms.
"Taormina" has it all - nice clean rooms, great staff, convenient location and reasonable prices!
The only drawback for us was the noise from the street - it is impossible to sleep having the windows open!

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT facing the street!

The rooms in this hotel were beautiful! They had AC but you had to pay extra for it. When you enter the front door of the hotel you are greeted with a set of stairs. Don't panic, there is an elevator through the big brown door on your left outside the main entrance. Breakfast was not that great. It was a little tricky getting to our room at times because the building houses 2-3 hotels and apt complexes that share the elevator. Ask for specific directions.

Nice middle class hotel in very good and very clean condition. Centralyl located in an area with a lot of chinese immigration. Not an unsafe area though. Close to metro, tram and bus. Walking distance from Termini station.
If you arrive from Fiumicino airport by train (Leonardo Express), take the first exit ("uscita"), go downstairs to Via Giolitti, there is an elevator too. Don't walk all the way to the end of the tracks, that makes a big shortcut.
And don't miss "Fassi", Italy's famous and oldest ice cream manufactory almost next door from Hotel Taormina, on Via Principe Eugenio.

Entirely adequate to needs of a traveler. Exceptionally clean, private bathroom, comfortable beds. Close to sites and to transportation. Great fluffy towels. Helpful staff who speak English. No frills, and breakfast is boring, but coffee is good. Expect some stairs. Less than $100.00 per day in May 2011. I was on the courtyard at the back, and this could be noisy in the evening, but everything quieted down by 9:30, even on Saturday. I stayed two weeks.

Room Tip: try for a room on the first floor.

Just came back from a long weekend in Rome and found Taormina value for money. We were a 20 minute walk from the Colosseum and basically walked to all the main sites (apart from the Vatican) from the hotel.
It was clean, the room was quite large and the staff were friendly. Couldn't ask for much more if you are traveling on a budget. However, I would agree with other posters re: the area that the hotel is located in appears a little dodgy. Graffiti everywhere, homeless people around Termini. In fact on our way from Termini to the hotel, we saw a woman just urinating by a parked car- not the best first impression of this beautiful city!
However, we didn't have any problems overall- so I would still recommend overall. Plus, it does have the best ice cream parlour in the city right next door!

Room Tip: At the back of the hotel.

For a discount hotel this was fine.
Good:
Price.
Friendly staff.

Bad:
Not a great part of Rome, but we did not feel unsafe.
--you will be walking a fair amount from here to anywhere historic.
Stinky bathroom
Hard Bed
No Internet (really, how do you not have internet in the 21st century).
Pass the bread
--breakfast was rolls, more rolls, and a few condiments.

I stayed here as I was on a budget during the rugby season. The hotel was so smart I did not feel like I was on a budget. The rooms and hotel should be more that a 2 star. I would definately stay here again and in fact will be booking for 2 years time. The are is basic but there is a tram that stops outside the hotel which takes you to the centre and the metro is about 50 yards away. The staff were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was not great but at the price we paid, we couldnt grumble. As my title says, perfect hotel.
