“What a fantastic hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

This hotel was a little gem. Perfectly located close to the metro and a supermarket, and on the tram and bus network but also close enough you could walk in to the centre to take in the city. Some lovely and reasonable local restaurants close by as well. The breakfast was fantastic with an incredible view over the city, and the staff were very helpful. The one thing I would say is go for the deluxe room because the standard room is a little small for two.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room.

We spent 4 nights at the Villa Morgagni for our 25th wedding anniversary and our first experience of Rome. The hotel is very conveniently located in a quiet location with the Metro station across the road. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is very clean and they provide a wonderful breakfast.

The only slight issue was on our first night. The room they put us in can only be described as a cupboard! But they did say if we found the room too small they would move us the next night. They did and the 2nd room was ideal. Rome is a beautiful city and the Metro makes it very easy to explore - we bought the 3 day ticket which turned out great value as we could just hop on and off to see all the sights. One word of warning. We took a taxi to the hotel from the Termini after getting of the fast train from the airport and were ripped off - charging us 20 Euros for what turned out to be a short distance. Especially annoying when we discovered that we could have got the metro for about 3 euros and it stopped right outside our hotel!

Will definitely come back and would definitely stay at the Morgagni again.

I was pleasantly surprised with how large the rooms were for a European hotel. Decor was very classic and bath was marble, keeping with the theme. Staff was very friendly and helpful. As other reviewers mentioned, this is about a 10Euro cab ride from Rome's center and the attractions so not bad at all. We also ate at the ISIS bar across the street which was very convenient for a quick bite. Breakfast on the rooftop was a nice touch and had a nice selection.

We recently stayed at this hotel for just 1 night prior to leaving Rome. We got a warm welcome from the staff and they were helpful in providing us with information about the city. The hotel is not close to major sites in Rome but it is very close to good transportation options (across the street from a Metro stop and a trolley stop). The room was a bit on the small side but it was clean and nicely decorated and amenities were nice. Like other reviewers we thought the air conditioning worked well - we had to turn it down at night. Internet was good but not free anywhere in the hotel. One thing to note: we paid more than we expected for a taxi ride to the airport due, we think, to the location of the hotel (outside city walls) but we could have just been ripped off by the cab driver. Didn't experience our included breakfast so we can't comment on it.

Nice clean room..bath with shower and jacuzzi tub..very pretty..
Good breakfast..
Pleasant staff..
Location is more of residential neighborhood..only 200 meters to the metro..grocery store accross the street (much cheaper to buy bottled water, and other necessities there rather then in the tourist areas)..local pizza/sandwich shop at the metro station intrance with good prices..only four stops on the metro to the ancient colosseum (from there you can walk or take a bus to see the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Roman Forum, and others. You can also get to the Vatican from there, but long lines and wasted time (tours, available through the hotel will bypass the lines and are well worth money spent)..

Room Tip: Hotel is set back from main road, so all rooms should be quite. 1st floor back is quiet. Beds are...

We chose this hotel because the reviews were good and the price was right. The hotel is two subway stops away from the Termini train station. It felt far away from the downtown tourist hotspots but in reality it was only a 5 mins cab ride (under 10EUR) or 10 mins subway excursion to get to those spots.
The client service we received was excellent. They even helped us find another hotel to stay in in Rome, and got us a discounted rate, for when we were returning (they close the last two weeks of August so were not available).
The rooms are very clean and large. You get this extra space because you are out of town a bit. Had free WiFi and lots of tv stations to choose from.
Breakfast was only ok. It was probably great for the early risers but we went at the end of the breakfast time so the selection was minimal.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.

I stayed at the Villa Morgagni while attending a conference at the nearby university and found it to be delightful. The air conditioning can freeze you out of the room, so it is quite up to snuff. The breakfast is lovely on the roof. The view of Rome and the surrounding hills is quite nice.

I found the staff to be helpful. One member suggested a better running route to the Colosseum for my morning run which I greatly appreciated. They even gave me a bottle of water for the run (still, no gas).

My room was small, but that was fine. Room 201 has a gorgeous balcony and lots of space, so if you get that one you are in luck. You do not want Room 101 which is right next to the reception desk. If someone stands there to have a conversation or talk on the cell you'll get to hear it.

Overall, great value. The neighborhood is deceptively cool. Down closer to the university, a five minute walk, there are great restaurants for lunch that are very inexpensive (2.50 Euro for a great sandwich) and there's great gelato at Mpare. Everything we ate in the neighborhood bounded by the university and Via Bari was great. So, get out of the tourist areas and stay here. You are close to the metro and can get anywhere.

Room Tip: 201 has terrace. 101 noisy.
