“Do NOT stay at this dive- it isn't even in Rome”
Reviewed October 20, 2011

Seriously, I booked this as part of a package and was aware it was 'a little' way out of the city but not this far! If you are landing at the airport anytime after 8pm you still have to take a taxi from Terminus rail station to the hotel. The taxi cost us 70Euros and throughout the journey the driver kept on saying to us 'why are you staying here- it isn't even in Rome! The hotel itself was horrible and I don't consider myself to be fussy. The room smelt of damp with a creaking old mattress, I didn’t find the people friendly at all (unlike some on this forum) and the breakfast was something you would expect to find in a backpackers hostel! We stayed one night and immediately found another hotel that was central and we were happy to stay in. Awful waste of time and money staying there and suggest others don’t make the same mistake

I travelled with my cousin on a girls city break to Rome from London- we ended up checking into the hotel very late and the first room we were shown too the bed's weren't made and the toilet was very dirty. We went back down to reception and he showed us a 'nicer suite room', which was a lot larger and had a jacuzzi bath in, but then again the room was dirty and there was underwear on the bathroom floor.

We told the receptionist again and he managed to find us another room, that he checked before we went it. The bed in this room was made and the facilities clean, small but clean.

The older italian man at the reception desk the next morning was very helpful in showing us how to get to the train station, what to see in the few days we had there and where to get proper italian gelato. The hotel is a 2 minute walk to the train station, however you do have to cross quiet a busy road, so if taking children be a bit more careful about it. Trains into Rome are very frequent too - we never had to wait more than 5-7 minutes for one (and a lot cheaper than London).

Except for the bedroom mix up in the morning everything else was fine, the staff were extremely friendly- also a few cute backpackers there too.

If you are looking to find a decent place to lay your head for the night and wash up this place works. You definitely won't be traveling to Rome just for Hotel Flaminius. Its only about a 15 minute train ride from Piazza del Popolo. From Piazza del Popolo you have walkable access to the sights of Rome or you can get the Metro from there also. The Hotel is in a dirty, sketchy sort of neighborhood. We never felt uncomfortable being there but we spent very little time there also... to sleep and wash up only. The hotel has a friendly enough staff, average breakfast, and average rooms w/ Air Conditioning and a Washroom. It does get loud at times because it is right next to the train line and a road that is busy at times. The Hotel is kept clean but has a musty smell to it. We found the best restaurant a short walk away. Le Vere Grotte (http://www.leveregrotte.com/) had a great menu, friendly service and a wicked outdoor patio... this was easily the best food we had, by far, during our stay in Rome. All in all Flaminius was fine for the cost.

This hotel is very good in term of the room size, cleanliness and breakfast. Staffs are good. However location is far from city center. It would invariably take you 40 min plus from Termini. As location is remote one has to keep tab of time in the evening so that you are not too late.

From Termini just take Bus No 910 to Marcini and then take Bus No 200. This is more convenient than Metro+Tram+Bus via Popolo.

Staff were really friendly, rooms were clean, but if you look on the official website for this hotel it states there is a restaurant and 24hr bar, there were neither, so when you get back to the hotel after a day in the city there is nothing to do, the area surrounding the hotel is terrible, really rundown, the locals aren't that friendly either, the manager was lovely and really helpful though, another plus side is that it only costs 1 euro by train to the city.

We had booked 2 rooms here. we have no complaints about the service or the amenities except that the lift was very small.

However the location is not at all suitable for families with kids particularly if you are using public transport.. From the centre of town we have to take a suburban train (the website says tram ride which is also deceptive because it makes one think of a trams which normally run inside the city). The train is in bad shape and runs both slowly and the frequency is not good at all. it took us almost 1 1/2 hrs to reach the hotel from the Rome termini to the hotel. we arrived at a very deserted, dilapidated and graffiti ridden station.. didn't like the location at all and were really worried about coming back to the hotel in the dark. this fear was heightened when we wanted to get back into town. the receptionist told us that the station we arrived at would not have a ticket machine and we would have to walk to the next staion. that walk was scary as we again walked through an overgrown deserted path and came across 3 sets of drunks. And this was at 1 pm. This station too was dilapidated and when we identified the ticket machine from a large metal box with no markings left on it we could not read any instructions we just put our money into the slot and prayed we would get a ticket. fortunately we did. Reached rome and after grabbing a quick bite immediately looked for and booked a nice hotel at the same rate right next to the Termini. even though we had paid up fully for our rooms at the flaminus and with no idea whether we would get a refund, we checked out.
On the positive side, of the 5 different hotels we stayed in in France and italy this one offered the best Continental breakfast with, as they say on their website, fresh baked croissants.

Terrible location unless you have a car and we didn't. Only thing near was train and it was a dangerous walk to station. Rooms were just OK, as was the breakfast. Hotel has a really small out dated double-door elevator that doesn't work if someone leaves one of the doors open, which was most of the time! Would not recommend and will never stay there again.
