“A little gem of a hotel”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

My husband and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the L'Hotel Cinquantatre. It was a little gem. While, like others, I did find mold around the corners of the room that should be attended to, the bathroom was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, the tiny elevator and rooftop terrace for breakfast were charming. The rooms are dated, but that is part of the charm. It was an incredible value and it's location is fantastic! While there eat at the restaurant LaBotte on Via Sistina, www.labotte.info - we loved it for great food and atmosphere at a great price! This is a good hotel if you are looking for no frills, convenient location and a very reasonable price. It is well situated near the Barberini metro stop as well as a number of good buses to take you wherever you need to go (including the very helpful 116 bus). My room was quiet, clean enough (the bathroom could have used a good scrub) and the bed was comfortable. There is also an air-conditioner. They advertise free Wi-Fi, but it didn't really work. For the price, location and accommodations, however, I didn't care one bit.

The breakfast is small, but sufficient (coffee, rolls, cereal). The staff speak sufficient English, but are not really a concierge service. This is a great hotel if you are just looking for somewhere to sleep at night that is convenient to central Rome.

Dear ellibeth_12,
Thank you very much for your good review.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in our hotel and I apologize for the wi-fi: due to some technical problems with our internet provider. We had a lack of service for a couple of days but the issue has been solved now, sorry again.
I really hope to see you next time you're in Rome.
Have a great day,

Stayed 5 nights in Nov '11. Had to change rooms once due to heavy mold around door to patio and window. Changed to one at back of hotel that was a little tired but was more than sufficient for the number of hours we were there daily.

Reasonably clean with a comfortable older bed and a well-stocked and operating washroom. Not a lot of continental breakfast choice but everything was very fresh and the coffee and juice top-notch. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Most importantly, you couldn't ask for a more practical location in Rome. In a long but leisurely day's walk we did the loop to Spanish Steps, St Peter's, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and back....and of course the metro less than a block away got us everywhere else.

This may only be a 2-star hotel but my theory is that in Rome you could pay twice the price and not be any more satisfied, so we'd stay here again given the chance.

Thank you Luca and team for a great stay. The hotel is very well situated, near the Metro station as well as via Veneto and the Hard Rock Cafe. Also close by the US Embassy.
About a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Trevi Fountains and Spanish steps. The hotel is affordable for the area and well worth it. The included breakfast was good and the room was nice and clean. Elevetator was small, one person and 1 bag still great when you are in the 5th floor. We had room 502 with a small balcony, it was lovely. We will defenety stay here again.
Grazie y arrivederci!!

The hotel is situated in an excellent location near the centre of historic Rome - the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Colloseum, to name but a few, are all within easy walking distance! We stayed for 5 nights, Thursday to Tuesday. Our only negative comment would be that not all the staff speak English, which was a nuisance at breakast-time on a couple of mornings over the weekend, but not a major problem by any means. The staff on reception all understood us very well and were very helpful, so our compliments must go to the owner and his staff. This hotel is an ideal place to stay for a short break in Rome, and we wouldn't hesitate to give it our recommendation!

I was here for two nights in April 2011. The location was great, we walked to all the big sights in about 20 min, and there was a train just down the street. It is an older hotel, but clean and a good amount of space for a European hotel. The staff was very friendly and the price was great.

This hotel is in a fantastic location! Just a few steps from Via Veneto and a short walk from Villa Borghese. It is in walking distance to most attractions. Rome hotels generally have a lower standard than a lot of the other cities in Italy, in which you don't get a lot for what you pay for. This room was a good size and had a nice bathroom. The breakfast was not really good. Only sweet breads and cereal were offered. I was disappointed that there was no fruit or yogurt. However we did get to start our day with a cappuccino. The people at the front were nice enough to allow us to use the computer downstairs. The only terrible part was that there were protests outside our window (near a government building) which was terribly annoying. For 10 hours we heard nothing but loud drums and yelling. It was terrible! However, it was not the hotel's fault. Overall, for Rome's standards, it was a nice hotel.
