“Great hotel, perfect base for your adventures!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

I should start by trying to discredit any negative reviews about this hotel; if you dislike the hotel and it's style, then you're completely missing the point of visiting Rome and it's wonderfully immersive culture. Rome is not a place you visit to stay in your hotels cooped up, there is so much to see and do that any time other than eating breakfast/sleeping/changing clothes/showering in your hotel is a waste of time. Your hotel must be your base, from where you start and end your precious days in this beautiful city.
So, what does the Champagne Palace offer in that sense? Well I can say that it offers everything you could wish for.

Location - about five minutes away from the Termini Station, and about a 12-15 minute walk to the Colosseum and the rest of the centro historico, the hotel is in a prime location and is easy to spot (on the corner of the street, large sign). If you're worried about the distance from the city centre, then there are lots of bus/train/metro stations near by to help you get around, although I wholeheartedly suggest you walk everywhere in Rome, and take in every single beautiful backstreet, alley and building.

The rooms - cosy, nicely presented and immaculately clean rooms with tasteful and classical decor. I really mean it when I say I think the hotel photos of their standard rooms do the rooms a diservice; they are a lot more modern than they may initially seem! The bathrooms are small but again very clean and nicely decorated, and the water pressure for the showers is some of the best I've experienced anywhere in Italy. Room has decent(ish) air con as well as a mini bar, which is a nice place to store your water overnight to keep it cool! The beds are really comfy, which is a great plus too!

The breakfast - is one the 7th floor so you can enjoy a really nice view of the local area. The food, although perhaps limited is pleasant enough. Most mornings I would have a croissant, a coffee and a blood orange juice, which was more than enough to satisfy me and my partner until lunch time. I think some of the complaints regarding the breakfast service is a little bit unfair. You can't expect endless amounts of buffet style eggs, bacon, sausages etc. because a hotel of this size would simply never offer that. There is cereal, toast, pastries, meats and cheeses. To me that is more than enough.

As for the service, I was pleasantly surprised at how pleasant and polite all the staff were, the gentlemen that work on reception in particular are really helpful and easy to talk to. They can book taxis to come straight to the hotel, and are more than happy to help you arrange for your transfer to whatever airport you're flying through if you're not using the Termini. Room service was excellent, fresh towels and sheets were brought to the room every single day, and the rooms were cleaned regularly.

Negative points? I have a few. The view from our room wasn't the best, we were overlooking a quadrant in the centre of the hotel that was nothing more than a few air conditioning units, and it obscured the sunlight from entering the room, but that might be knit-picking given the fact our room was so nice on the inside. The location might be close to the Colosseum, but it could be considered a little far from areas like Piazza Navona or the Pantheon. I still walked it every day, but if you're an older guest who wants to avoid public transport then the location might be a little bit tricky.

But other than that, all I can say is what a great little hotel, would happily visit again!

This is a Great location and I fully recommend this hotel...it's not a 4 Star like described maybe 10 years ago but it is so cheap to stay here you can't complain!

It's right by the train station where you get off from the airport. I recommend using the train but you can get cheaper travel by using the coaches (you can go to a coach and ask directly without booking).

Definitely get a 5 day pass (or however long ur stay) for the metro. It's quite simple to use compared to other cities. Everything is in walking distance from the metro, the Collesium is right in front of the entrance to the metro so you can't miss it.

The hotel staff were ok, nothing spectacular but pleasant enough and everyone speaks perfect English unless you want to give it a try but I pronounced a few words wrong and ended up with a totally different starter haha.

I liked the fact that the cleaners where brilliant and the shower was spotless and the towels, shampoo, soap and shower caps were replaced daily.

The breakfast was simple...very Italian continental but I would of liked if fruit was available...the breakfast room was clean and it was located on the top floor so you get a pleasant view in the morning.

The style of hotel was nicely decorated in Roman Style with gold and marble which for the size of the hotel is not too bad. It is a city hotel so the front facia is right next to a shop which one can easily miss when first arriving.

I must point out for the price of a city hotel it was cheap although expect to pay city tax for the room per day €6.00 so don't be shocked by this as it isn't included when you book.

There was nice aircon but the only issue is that ask for 2 entry cards as you need the card to be slotted in near the door otherwise the power for the whole room including aircon doesn't work ( I was wondering why my camera and phone were not charging when left room).

Rome is expensive for food but all the sites are free or reasonable. I would recommend a day trip to Tivoli it's well worth it.

We uses a 5 day itinerary and kept to this because you would feel bombarded with so much to see and do. I would recommend looking for one on the Internet as it made location wise site seeing far easier.

I loved Rome and as a couple we were pleasantly surprised as we read a few poor reviews but saw that some people are expecting a Palace so don't. If you want a Palace you have to pay for the price.

Our Room was tiny tiny, the employees of the hotel looked like there were forced to work there, with very condescending attitude at every turn. Even if we booked in advance we had to wait an hour for our room. Also very poor breakfast. The location is in the city centre, wether is good or not, depends on a traveller but the service and quality of things offered does not deserve 4 stars.

Above all, the hotels in Rome are old and not good.
This hotel is rated with 4 stars, but when I booked it I was sure that these 4 stars are suspicious. I read many reviews and I can generalize that bad comments are based on expectance of these 4 stars.
Hotel is very well located both for business stay and for exploring the city. There are lot of pubs and cafe around. Our dbl room was big enough with very comfortable double bed, TV, mini bar, wardrobe and chairs. Breakfast is included in the price. Breakfast was good, but not enough varied. Room was cleaned-up daily. Very fast check-in and check-out.
I really recommend this hotel with best location and reasonable price!

We were booked another hotel in new year eve but we found upon arrival that the reservation was cancelled, I contacted my travel agency to solve this mistake and to find another hotel in the same area. The time was very tight and busy as its new year eve, at last they succeeded to manage us another hotel in the same area which is Champagne Palace Hotel, the hotel’ location was more than excellent close to Termini station, the area surrounded by a lot of nice restaurants where you can eat wow Pizza and Pasta. I really went to Colosseum and Fontana di trevi on foot! it’s not that close but I was happy to discover the city specially it was my 1st time in Rome. Hotel was very clean the area was safe even at late night, Breakfast was very good. I would stay in it again.

Visited here this week. Booked through BA and this hotel was great. The location really does sell this place. Its about a 2 minute walk from Termini station, which is where the metro, express to and from airport and all the tour buses go from. The hotel was exactly what we wanted, its not a 4* like it says but it was perfect for us as we just needed somewhere to sleep and were out all day and night. It was very clean and the beds were comfy. Hotel staff were great and there is free wifi. Air conditioning worked a treat too. Breakfast was alright, although was all very sweet! People mention about the area being a bit rough, but we didnt see this at all and we felt safe walking home at night. If I ever came back to Rome i would stay here again, the location of this hotel is fantastic.

Overall, very enjoyable little hotel, not quite as grand as the name suggests, but good all the same. Check in times exceptionally convenient (between Midday and Midnight) and the staff friendly, although their collective English is touch and go, and your ease of check in really depends on whether you get one of the more fluent members of staff. The room was just about the right size, and the bathroom has everything you need, even if it's all a bit a squeezed in, and had a weird smell when I arrived in spite of it clearly having been cleaned before I checked in. Breakfast is on the 7th floor in an okay, pretty bland room, and the food is nothing to write home about, but is satisfying enough each morning.

The real joy of this hotel is the location, it's a matter of minutes from Termini station, the main station in Rome, so travel around the city is made exceptionally easy! Even better, it's just enough off centre so that you aren't kept awake at night by any noise, and I had an exceptional night's sleep all 7 nights I spent there - with great thanks to the Air Conditioning system in sweltering mid-summer heat. You're also within walking distance of several bars and restaurants, and even the colosseum, although there are much cheaper and more reasonably priced food options if you get on the metro and go further afield for your meals!

For the price you get just about enough to keep you ticking over, and is an exceptional bargain given the pricey nature of everything else in Rome! Very enjoyable!
