“Perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

I selected this hotel solely due to location, as it is strategically just one block from the Termini Rail station. You simply exit the station to the right of the tracks, cross the street, walk one block, turn right, and you are there. I also booked through my time share network, and only paid a booking fee of $25 for two nights, so there was no way this hotel could disappoint, as I knew I was getting great value regardless of my experience.

I was delightfully surprised and pleased. My single room was quite small, but adequate. Bathroom was small (just two meters by two meters), and water pressure at the shower head was weak, but still adequate nonetheless. Room was very clean and quiet during sleeping hours, with some outside renovation noise during the day and some slight breakfast noise in the morning.

The guys at the front desk were very friendly, courteous, and helpful, offering local advice for the activities I was doing.

Breakfast was disappointing. I enjoy hot tea, and the water dispenser dispensed only warm water. Furthermore, it was shared with a coffee dispenser, giving the tea an undesirable coffee flavor. Otherwise it was a continental breakfast (rolls, cheese, deli meat, yogurt, cereal).

I gave it four stars because of my particular needs and objectives. If you are here for a very special event (honeymoon etc), or never plan on visiting Rome again, or are used to high-end hotels, then stay somewhere else. If you enjoy traveling like a local (as I do), and need to get around Rome with public transportation or prefer to tour by walking, then this hotel is a great choice.

I would certainly stay here again.

Finding a hotel in Rome which is centrally located and caters well to groups can be difficult. This hotel is one of the best we have used for our school students travelling to Italy. Within easy walking distance of Termini train station, and with a number of reasonably priced restaurants and a laundry located nearby, and with friendly helpful staff I would recommend this hotel. Whilst the lift is small (as usually is the case in the older European city hotels), the stairway is wide and enables groups to move in and out quiet easily. Use the lift to move the luggage and the stairs to move the kids and all's well. The only real set back is the small size of the breakfast room. Having stayed in a number of different hotels in Rome over the years with groups of high school students, the positive aspects of this hotel are far outweighed by the small breakfast room.

Its located very close to the termini station, Restaurants are in walking distance. Fairly clean but the elevator is too scary and dated! Amost felt like we were trapped in a bird cage, Carrying big suitcases was a problem for us.
They have some policies on turning on the Air condiitoning, we were there in May and they would not turn on the Air condition although we would have preferred to have the air circulation. Please check this before booking, we apparently didnt!
Breakfast was very minimal, choice was very limited to some cereal and pastry. We would have preferred to atleast have some toasts and fruits.
Last but not the least, during or 3 nite stay there, the night staff seemed very friendly and helpful. The person at the front desk during the day time was extremely rude and arrogant. We found it a little strange because we were not even greeted when we came to check in into the hotel.

Rooms subject to availability after 12 noon, but thats the way its there.
Almost next to Roma Termini. The hotel is in a Classic Building.
We loved the Elevator from the 18th Century. Breakfast is ok.
Cosy and warm as we visited in March amidst snowfall.
The Museum,Station,Nearest Departmental Store,Republican Square, all these are within little walking distance. You can enjoy great shopping in the basement and at the Roma Termini. And yes,its all branded and quality stuff.

Room Tip: Choose any room. All rooms are small yet cosy.

Close to Termini and the main subway and bus lines, and within walking distance of the Forum, this unassuming hotel on a 3rd floor which might go unnoticed as a hostel, has good, comfortable rooms, abundant breakfast, and a friendly, helpful staff. For the price (lower than similar options in the area, and much lower than other, more "desirable" parts of Rome), this is one of the best buys one can find in this wonderful but very expensive city. Keep in mind: this is not a 5 star hotel, but a humble, yet clean, convenient, appropriate, and not expensive place to come to sleep after a long day walking around the city visiting monuments.

The room was simple, small but adequate and I was glad it had a safe. The shower was a bit cramped but there was plenty of hot water. The room was kept very clean. The young men on the desk were courteous, cheerful and helpful. They also spoke excellent English.

The overriding advantage of the Marco Polo is its location. Being only three minutes walk from the Termini means that it is extremely easy to get from and to the airport, via bus or train (no taxi needed). Then the abundance of buses spreading from Termini across the city makes it equally easy to visit any part of it.

If you don't want the hotel's breakfast, you can find alternatives at the dozens of cafes and bars within a few minutes walk.

Bottom line: would I use the Marco Polo again? Yes, definitely.
