We stayed at the Ponte Sisto from 7th - 14th Augut 2014. We had read the reviews and had asked for a room facing the courtyard. We did not get that, but did get a room overlooking some gardens which had a balcony - not enough to sit on, but room enough to stand and look out. It was still quite enough at night so that we were not disturbed. We had a couple of minor problems which when pointed out o reception were sorted immediately.
The room was larger than when we had when we stayed at a similarly priced hotel last year, the bathroom was a good size and toiletries were provided - even slippers. The hotels photographs do not do the rooms or bathroom justice. The bed was a decent sized double and spare pillows etc. were in the wardrobe.
The room cleanliness was excellent and the maid that cleaned our room always seemed jovial and polite.
The reception staff were very helpful, arranging trips/ excursions for us through a company called Green Line Tours (see below for details!). We had booked some tickets which needed to be printed off and they were only too please to help. When asking for directions to specific places they were shown on the map and the quickest and easiest way to get there was given.
Most of the major places of interest can be reached within 10 - 20 minutes walk. A taxi anywhere is the city limits costs €18.00 if you would rather. There is a boat for €12.00 which runs from the opposite bank from near the island to Castle St Angelo (useful for the Vatican) and it can be used as many times as you like for 24 hours.
Breakfast is excellent - a buffet style breakfast which should cater to everybody's tastes. There are hot eggs, boiled and scrambled, sausages and bacon, cold meats and cheeses, various cereals, yoghurts, breads and pastries. If the weather is suitable, then this is eaten in he courtyard, if not, then in the dining room.
On the 5th floor is a roof terrace. Ideal for sunbathing, or relaxing with a book. On an evening a bottle of wine or a cold beer whilst watching the sun go down makes a great end to the day. The terrace is open until 11:00 pm so you can also sit and chat after returning from dinner - perhaps with another wine or beer!.
We had 2 experiences with Green Line Tours, the first was a day trip to Tuscany with wine tasting - the trip was great (as was the wine!). If you take the trip do try and find the sword in the stone in Cortona. The only let down was that we were not dropped off back at the hotel. We were dropped off '2 minutes away', although this was nearer to 20 minutes away by the quickest route whist walking fairly quickly. The second was the 2 hour open top bus tour. The reason that the tour takes 2 hours is that you sit at bus stops for about 45 - 60 minutes. We used a different tour company last year (red bus with yellow writing although I cannot remember the name) and found them much better. We found the tour was better, as was the commentary.
The hotel does not serve lunch or dinner, but there are numerous places in Rome where you can get a good meal. If you take a walk over the Ponte Sisto to the other side of the river, there are a lot of restaurants, catering to all tastes and budgets, as well as the others nearer the city centre which tend to be slightly more expensive.
If you need water, or something to eat for a picnic lunch perhaps, there is a SPAR shop a couple of doors along which is open until 8.00 pm and has almost everything you could want - including basic medicines.
Across the road is a shop selling some of the best Gelato in Rome!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rome - the Hotel Ponte Sisto made the stay, thank you to all the staff who made it that little bit more special than expected!

Room Tip: Do explore the other side if the Ponte Sisto Bridge for some excellent bars and restaurants which h...

Our room #301 was quiet, clean and fairly large. Bedroom had a queen sized comfortable bed, sitting area had a queen sized sofa bed. Green marble bathroom was large and spacious with shower/full size tub and bidet. Both sitting room and bathroom opened out onto a generous-sized shared terrace. The terrace however has little to no view, no place to sit, and no shade. A table with an umbrella and a few plants would do a world of good for that space and add value to the rooms that have access (management take note!). Only negative for the room was that the walls needed a fresh coat of paint.

Breakfast was buffet style, decent quality, and served in their breezy pleasant courtyard.

Staff was friendly and helpful.

The neighborhood looks a little gritty but felt perfectly safe there. It is off the beaten path. As my daughter said: "it's near everything but close to nothing." The immediate block or two around the hotel has very little in the way of shopping or stores. There is a small market <1 minute walk down the street, a gelateria, a pasticceria, and that's about it. So the hotel functioned for us more of a base of operations than a destination with a neighborhood to explore.

Would stay again without question.

Hotel Ponte Sisto is in a great location with a 5 minute walk to the Travestere, a 10 minute walk to the Colosseum/Forum and a 10 minute walk to the Pantheon. The hotel was very clean, the staff friendly, and the breakfast was well done and in a beautiful setting. Beds are comfortable, air conditioning works well, and the neighborhood is safe. The hotel staff recommended a great restaurant on our last night (La Scala) and I wished we had asked for recommendations earlier! We are a family of 4 and booked two adjoining rooms, one with a balcony. We got exactly what we asked for and the set-up worked well for us. Definitely would stay here again on next visit to Rome!

Hotel Ponte Sisto is simply fantastic! Rome is our favourite city and we have stayed in a few 4-star hotels but this one is the best. Situated in a beautiful terracotta- coloured palazzo, the hotel is close to the River Tiber and Trastevere, also only a short walk to Campo di Fiore with its great restaurants and only about 12 minutes walk from the magnificent Piazza Navona. We had a suite (room 401) with a HUGE terrace! The hotel staff are lovely and the buffet breakfast very good. Would love to come back here again.

We arrived at the hotel with some trepidation unsure what it was going to be like. But once we stepped through the doors we were very relieved - it was absolutely delightful and the staff were very welcoming and helpful (giving us a map of the city, showing us how to get to the sights and giving us the password for free wifi).
Our room was on the fifth floor and the view from the window was lovely - it overlooked the courtyard, surrounding rooftops and in the distance we could see the dome of St Peters. The room itself was clean, comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. Breakfast was very good and again the staff were very helpful.
The hotel was in a very good location, and while we are not the most fit people, we found it straightforward enough to trek the city to visit the sights. An added bonus to the hotel's location is a number of very good outdoor eating establishments and bars on the nearby river bank.
The only thing that we would point out is that the hotel bar is quite expensive.

We would like to thank the hotel and its staff for helping to make our holiday very enjoyable!

We booked this hotel through booking.com after reading the good reviews on here.We booked a suite because we wanted a balcony. When we were taken to our room we found it didn't have a balcony and were told only two suites do. After a discussion with the on duty manager we were upgraded free of charge to the Belvedere room at the top of the hotel which has two balconies! One balcony looks over the Ponte Sisto bridge and the other towards Vatican City with amazing views.
The staff are polite, helpful and most can speak English. The staff at reception are more than willing to help and made calls on our behalf to a tour guide, shuttle company and local taxi firm.
They served breakfast most mornings in the courtyard which was a wonderful location to start your day.
A couple of things to note if you are thinking of booking the Belvedere room. The lift only goes to the fifth floor and you have two flights of stairs to take to get to this room on the 6th floor. Also there is no seperate shower only a shower head attached to the bath taps.

Room Tip: Belvedere room (601) has wonderful views over the city

We spent our last night in Rome at the Hotel Ponte Sisto and were very pleased. We added on a day after a cruise and selected this hotel so we could be close to the Jewish neighborhood and Campo Di Fiori. The staff was very friendly and were gracious enough to hold our luggage for a few hours until our room was ready (we arrived at the hotel before 10am). The rooms were connecting and worked perfectly for our family of 4. The location was great, and we were able to walk everywhere that afternoon. If you are in the area be sure to try Cafe Piperno for dinner. The river and the bridges are great to see during the day, but really need to be seen at night to get the full effect. We would stay at Hotel Ponte Sisto again when we return to Rome.

Room Tip: We had rooms 324 and 325 which have a connecting foyer. This worked perfectly as we left all of our...
