“Functional and clean”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

The room was typical 3 star quality but very clean. It's easy enough to find something eatable at breakfast but hard to find something tasty. The staff were helpful when we needed them.

We were pretty happy with it and reckon it's ideal for first time visitors on a budget - even more so if it's for a short stay. Handy for Termini station and within walking distance of several major attractions, such as the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum. It certainly suited us very well as we only really wanted a base and never planned to hang about a hotel.

The hotel is located near Termini station about 5 to 7 minutes walking distance. The block is very dark and seedy at night. When I first got there the first thing I saw was a bum laying on the ground accross the street. The single room is small! i was not prepared. A tiny single bed for a grown man was not comfortable. The rooms and bathroom are clean. The breakfast is very bland but fills you. Some of the staff are kind of rude. I would not stay there again.

We stayed here for five nights, and found it to be decent quality for the price. The rooms were fine (except that anyone smaller than me - average-height woman - would have been unable to reach the hanging rail in the wardrobe!), with comfy bed and a decent shower. The heat and the constant roar of the air conditioning - completely foreign to poor Brits! - were not the fault of the hotel. The tiled floor in the room wasn't too clean - bare feet came up quite dirty after only a few steps. The hotel's website listed a room safe, which we would have assumed was a free service, but the manager said the safe key would cost 5 euros a night. As a result we didn't bother and carried passports etc around with us. (Better Italian hotels we've stayed in merely asked for a key deposit, which was returned at the end of the stay.) Breakfast was only average - a choice of two cereals on the first two mornings, which dwindled to only one after that - and the cereal seemed to have been left in the breakfast room overnight, as it wasn't crisp. The lift was very small, though I suppose this is a problem of retro-fitting a lift shaft into a traditional stair-well. The big bonus for us though was the fabulous farmers' market at the end of the street, from which we bought wonderful fresh fruit each day - local peaches, figs, nectarines, prickly pears (well we had to try them! - but found them strangely disappointing.) Basically it's a hotel for sleeping and breakfasting in, and just a short walk from Termini railway station.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are quieter, strangely enough, because there's little traffic and the m...

We stopped in this hotel for one night, just to spend a night arriving late in the evening from Florence , before leaving to airport in the morning.

Even though our stay was short, I have to say we were really disappointed with the room, especially after I picked this hotel based on so many positive reviews.

I'm not sure if it's only this specific room (last one on the first floor, just by emergency exit, #109 I believe). There was very distinct "armpits" smell in the room and it was moldy. The front wall was covered with old water leaks. We also found a few small bugs in the morning (probably due to mold). Shower was clean though. There was a very weird feature in this room, stair steps leading to the window. Not sure what the purpose of that was. We joked that it looked like invitation to a suicide jump :)

The man at the front desk was polite and helpful, so no complaints on that. But that room has to be remodeled, otherwise it is a waste of money to stay there. Location is somewhat seedy but probably ok during the day.

Room Tip: Avoid room #109 (last one on the first floor), unless it is remodeled.

It's very close to the Fermini’s train station and to the metro, but the neighborhood it's not nice. They charge for the internet and to make reservations at the Galleria Borguese. Beds are not comfortable. Breakfast it's OK (although it finishes too early). The elevator it's tiny (holds only a person and a bag).

I stayed at the Corona Hotel for a couple of nights in August 2013. I chose it because it is within walking distance of Termini station and was within my budget.

Overall, this is a good example of getting what you paid for. The Corona is a 2/3 star hotel, offering 2/3 star services at 2/3 star prices. Don't expect to be wowed by this hotel, but equally you should not be disappointed.

The hotel is about 5-10 minute walk from Termini station in a quiet street. The end of the street where the hotel is located is a little bit seedy and there were vagrants around the hotel, although to be fair you see vagrants and beggars all over Rome. On the plus side there is a street market each weekday on the street next to the hotel which is fun to have a look at.

Travelling alone I had a single room - it was tiny! There was literally just room for the single bed and a small desk. There was also a small inbuilt wardrobe with a mini safe. However the room was tastefully decorated and in good condition. The bathroom, also quite small, was very modern and spotlessly clean. Overall the room was clean, reasonably comfortable and quite adequate for my needs.

Breakfast was included and taken in the dining room in the basement. There was a typical continental breakfast spread including juice, cereals, muesli, fruit, bread, cold meats and cheese. The standard was reasonable without being inspiring.

Internet cost EUR10 for up to 7 days access, although I believe it may be included free in some rates.

The Corona is in a reasonable position for visiting the sights. Many are within walking distance, while others can be reached via the public transport system. Being close to Termini station is good for public transport options. If you are planning on attending the opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, then the Corona is a great choice as it is just around the corner from the theatre.

Overall I had a good stay and have no major gripes about the hotel - it's just a question of setting your expectations correctly.

Would I stay here again? Yes, but I'd check similar hotels in the area to see who is giving the best rate.

This hotel is a great value. It is centrally located and near the Repubblica metro station. The room was small, but clean with a nice window that opened up across from a residential building which gave the felling of being "at home" in Italy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not amazing, but there is plenty of it so that you will not be hungry when you set out on your travels. My only complaint is that the walls are quite thin which means you will hear your neighbors and people moving about in the halls if you try to go to bed early. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Rome.
