Our family of four (parents, 14 year old daughter, 11 year old son) spent 8 days in Rome & 3 in Venice this summer, three of those Roman days touring with Giovanni. They were, by far, the best of our entire vacation.

We’re not an easy bunch. All four of us talk incessantly, love history & want to learn - but we don’t necessarily love the same *aspects* of history - lots of conflicting interests for a tour guide. We prefer to make our lives easier when vacationing, so wanted to be met at our hotel for every tour. Before we left, I researched dozens of options for tour sites and emailed Laura about almost all of them. Hardest of all, our son is a special needs kid (adhd, anxiety, aspergers) and he is *very* challenging. Difficult but very intelligent.

Finding a guide who likes children, can relate to teens, is endlessly patient, smart & engaging, fun, and flexible enough to cope with us seemed an impossible task.

But it wasn’t. Laura, in her kindness & perfect planning, and Giovanni, in the days he spent guiding us, were absolutely wonderful. Giovanni’s depth of knowledge was impressive, and right up our alley. He’s an archaeologist possessing an impressive knowledge base of Roman history. Truly fascinating. He’s also fun, with a great sense of humor & ability to converse on lots of topics. As another reviewer said, it’s like having a friend in Rome, and certainly someone with whom you enjoy spending several hours. Or, in our case, days.

In addition, their tours were complete customizable (witness all those options I showered on Laura, & the great tours she devised), and totally personalized to our interests & priorities. Most importantly, they were flexible. That is priceless. For example, one day we were supposed to visit a mostly outdoor site after touring for a couple hours already, and it was crazy hot. When I wimped out, Giovanni found a perfect alternative - the Crypta Balbi. Indoors, not inundated with other visitors, captivating, kinesthetic for the kids, and a place we never would’ve known about or visited on our own.

Above all - above the personal attention, customized tours, flexibility, and Giovanni’s knowledge & disposition - we appreciated his connection with our son. His ability to be patient, interesting and kind made those days special for us, truly enjoyable & memorable. We’ve travelled to Europe often in the last 8 years and toured with private guides many times. I cannot recommend Roads to Rome highly enough.

This summer, my wife and I toured Rome for four days prior to departing on an eleven-night Celebrity Mediterranean cruise. We employed the services of “Roads to Rome Tours.” Giovanni Vergineo is the owner and principle guide and was assisted by Peter and Rebecca. The tour they created for us was the highlight of our European experience.

By carefully listening to our wishes in advance of our arrival, Giovanni was able to craft a custom tour designed to satisfy our personal interests and to conform to our tight schedule. He was sensitive to our jet lag and helped us overcome it. He was sensitive to fatigue, heat, and hunger and scheduled key refreshment breaks to help us keep up the pace. Because of him, we were able to see much more of Rome than we would have been able to see either by ourselves or with individual tours. We had great fun discovering Rome because of Roads to Rome Tours.

Each day, Giovanni greeted us personally at our hotel, and outlined the day’s activities. With him, we walked, took subways and taxis, and drove in his own car throughout Rome and the environs. Giovanni and his compadres became as much a part of our Roman experience as were the Caesars. They were extraordinarily knowledgeable and conveyed both facts and insights into the vast Roman history. And if that were not enough, they gave us invaluable restaurant recommendations.

We cannot wait to return to Rome to delve more deeply into its art, architecture, history and culture assisted by Giovanni and friends. While I wish him great success in his business—he certainly deserves it—I hope that he doesn’t become too rich and busy to guide us personally again. Grazi Giovanni!

Myself, husband and friends visited Rome for the second time and we wanted to make sure that we had the best possible experience visiting places that we hadn't seen before. I found the reviews for Roads to Rome and made the decision to contact them and outlined our requirements.

We had first class service and Giovanni proved to be a wonderful host to us in Rome. Nothing was to much trouble and all of our excursions were fantastic.

If you are planning a trip to Rome and would like to have guides that are passionate about the wonders of Rome, and the surrounding areas that contact them..........You will not be dissapointed.

We are not ones for words, so this review will be short. Most importantly, we wish to confirm the veracity and accuracy of the other reviews. Those reviews exactly reflect the same experience we had with Giovanni and Laura during our personalized tour of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's on July 5th. Yes, we agree. "Giovanni is a gem" and "it is like having a friend at your service in Rome".

They specialize in custom tours so no request goes unfulfilled. In our case, we wanted to be met at our hotel and given a personalized, guided lesson in how to use the Roman Metro before our tour of the Vatican. We wanted to skip the long entrance lines, and also be provided with information about nearby restaurants at the conclusion of the tour. Sure enough, this is EXACTLY what we got.

In addition, one of us has difficulty with stairs. No problem. Giovanni went out of his way to accomodate this problem by taking alternate routes and finding elevators whenever possible.
His patience is infinite.

We could not have been more satisfied with the services of this professional and knowledgeable company.

We are travelling with family, including grandparents and small children, so a personalized tour was perfect for us. We were able to schedule our tour in the evening, which suited us as we were adjusting to a new time zone. Giovanni was our guide for a walking tour of the Centro Storico, and Laura also came to meet us and see us off. The tour was interesting and informative, and we were able to go at our own pace, stop to take photos or tend to the children without worrying that we were holding anyone up. Best of all as we strolled at a leisurely pace we were able to talk with Giovanni about various aspects of life in Italy - we discussed family life, education, politics, food and so on. Giovanni recommended additional sights and areas to visit, suggested restaurants, and even followed up the next day with detailed restaurant advice by email. I absolutely recommend booking a tour with Roads to Rome - they will show you whatever you want to see, whenever you want to see it. It's like having a friend in Rome. What could be better?
