“Lovely”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Stayed here 10th-15th Feb in room 1 on the ground floor. The room was large with a huge and lovely bathroom. standards of cleanliness were excellent. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful . The breakfast was lovely ,the decor pleasant. The only criticism I can make is that there wasn`t quite enough seating for breakfast ,but if your up early or late that isnt a problem. We WILL definately stay here again !!! For Rome itself be warned , crossing the road is a nightmare and a green man sign doesnt mean the traffic isnt going to move !! Also at rush hour times the metro, and buses are packed so beware pickpockets, as you are crammed in.Getting around is relatively easy , but i would recommend a buying a street map with all of the streets on it , ours was a godsend as it can be easy to get lost.I woulnt bother with The Time Elevator. Instead I would recommend `Le Domus Romane Di Palazzo Valentini` .this is only bookable on line, in small numbers, and shows the remains under a council building of a couple of Roman houses, street and has excellent visual reconstructions.

Room Tip: Room one was lovely

The hotel is about 10 minutes walk north-east of Termini and about 5 minutes walk from Castro Pretorio metro station. Via Palestro isn't a shopping street or through-route so there is very little traffic, day or night, and very little noise. Although it's close to Termini it isn't a dirty or unkempt area at all and if you didn't know how close the hotel is to Termini you'd never guess.

Rooms. Ours was on the 4th floor (5th US) in the 'new block' which actually means a sort of appendage. Apart from some irritating distant TV noise there wasn't a sound in our four-night stay. Room a tad cramped but not as small as some. It was comfortable and a steady 24Celsius. Flat-screen TV, SKY, and DVD player but the VGA connection on the TV didn't work when connected to my computer (the TV software didn't seem to acknowledge the existence of the VGA socket). Bathroom had shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The shower was excellent: very hot, very powerful and reliable. Room was properly cleaned each day.

Lifts. The hotel has two lifts. The main lift is closest to reception. The second, small, lift provides access to the 'new wing' though in practice it can be accessed from the main lift too. The small lift is really small - it's barely big enough for two adults and you can hardly turn round in it! But it works and it's new.

Breakfast. Served in the basement breakfast rooms, of which there are two linked by a doorway. the food is in one room. Food consists of: juice, canned fruit (fruit salad, apricots, prunes), salami, prosciutto, cheese, bread rolls, cereals (muesli, corn flakes). Two waitresses supply coffee and hot water for tea on demand. It is cramped - there are about six tables in each room but they are really jammed in, with some seating ranged around the wall. But the food was plentiful and despite the cramped accommodation, it seemed to work fine.

Reception: you get hit for 2 Euros per person tax per night, payable in cash, on top of your rate. Reception staff were efficient and speak English. They printed out our boarding passes when I emailed the passes over.

Wireless. Available throughout and free but only one log-in for each room so best to restrict yourself to one device. You get a printout with random username and password which is valid for 3 days; if you run out, you just get another one.

Local services. Various restaurants within a few minutes. Two supermarkets as well. One is in Via S. Martino di Battaglio which the main road you turn into to access the Castro Pretorio metro. The other is on the north side of Piazza Independenza which you walk through to get to Termini.

Airport. The hotel can arrange transfer. Or, for Fiumicino walk to Termini and catch the Leonardo Express (14 Euros each - every 30 minutes); or take the Metro from Castro Pretorio to Piramide and follow the walkway to Ostiense Station where a train leaves every 15 minutes for Fiumicino (8 Euros). For Ciampino - I haven't done that so can't comment.

Overall, we thought this was excellent value for central Rome and won out hands down for peace and quiet and convenience. We'd undoubtedly stay there again. We paid 286 Euros for four nights and thought this was very reasonable for what we got in the heart of a major European city. I've given it 'excellent', not because I think it's a 5-star Hilton, but because it's excellent value in all respects.

Room Tip: Ask for one that faces away from the street but it's not a big deal.

I stayed in the hotel Montecarlo for a week in February, 2nd-9th. It was the first time in Rome for me and my friend and the hotel was the essential part of success.
Montecarlo hotel turned out to be a cosy beautiful place, with smartly furnished rooms and INCREDIBLY sweet staff. Special thanks to Sergei and Michael!! You, guys, helped us a great deal to fall in love with Rome.
So,
+ professional, friendly, responsive staff
+ cosy rooms, great colours
+ clean rooms(!!)
+ not far from the main shopping street (via del Corsa) and from the railway station and subway

- some may consider breakfasts a bit poor but it was quite OK for us

This is an hotel situated on the corner of two side streets within easy walk of the main railway station but in a quiet residential location away from the main tourist area within inexpensive places to eat nearby. The receptionists and other staff are all very friendly and helpful and the hotel offers good value-for-money. There are steps both up to the reception and down to the lift but help is available to carry luggage, if needed. The room is equipped with Sky TV and a jacuzzi shower, not that we needed these features. Service at breakfast was excellent and more coffee was offered without our requesting it. The chambermaid was also very efficient. I would certainly come again.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th of 6 floors and this was fine as it was well above the traffic.

We stayed here in April 2012 and were very impressed with the level of service. The staff were always friendly and happy to answer any questions we had, not just about the hotel but Rome itself. The breakfast was the usual continental style that you would expect. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location was superb with many restaurants and shops within walking distance. For going further afield the underground was just around the corner. The WiFi worked brilliantly throughout our stay and came in very handy whilst exploring what to do in Rome.

I would not hesitate in returning to this hotel if I was to stay in Rome again.
