Our first concern was when our cab driver was unfamiliar with the hotel and it ended up in a residential section of Rome at the top of a steep cobble stone street. This hotel was most likely a beauty some years ago, but like myself, needs a facelift! The hotel appeared clean, but well worn and lacking some of the amenities we are accustomed to having (coffee service, tissues, wash cloths, conditioner and lotion). The rooftop was a nice feature, but not something that added to our comfort and stay. The front desk staff were professional, but not warm or friendly. Our stay was fine, but not a place we would repeat visit.

I had a good experience at this hotel. I booked this hotel through Expedia as part of a packaged deal. I wanted to stay near the Vatican and from the reviews I read beforehand I was happy to book at Alessandrino Hotel. We were greeted by friendly, helpful and English speaking hotel staff. The hotel had WiFi, the room had air-conditioning (not that effective), a fridge (which we were given bottled water every day) and a safe for your valuables (although you hand the key over to the concierge every time you leave the hotel). It was apparent that the hotel had recently gone through a refurbishment (some of the photos on this site are obviously out- dated). The room was clean and we were comfortable. We did not eat at the hotel. We enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco on the roof terrace one evening. There is a train station near by and there are buses that we used often. If we did not use public transport we walked (one of the best ways to experience Rome!) or if it was late at night we jumped into a taxi. We spent most of the day out and about and used the hotel as a place to sleep. So if you are looking for a good hotel/B&B near the Vatican, then I cannot recommend this one enough!

This hotel is situated away from the main tourist locations but reachable if your happy to walk for 20 - 30 mins, which we were. Or of course nip on the train to the main terminal as the train station is only 5 mins away. We thought the hotel was nice and the rooms were clean. The breakfast was poor but if you go down half way down the hill there is a great local cafe which sells fresh juice and lovely sandwiches.
The sun terrace is lovely at the hotel but really we did not go to Rome to sit in a hotel so did not really use it. overall nice hotel but would not go back to this one again

A lovely little hotel in a residential area about a 15 minute walk from the Vatican and another 10 minutes to the Trevi Fountain. The room was spacious and comfortable, we had room 407 with a large balcony, great for enjoying a glass of wine and looking over at the Vatican, although the shower cubicle was a little small. The staff were friendly and helpful with directions and getting taxis. The breakfast was good enough to set you up for a long morning of sightseeing. The nearest restaurants are a 5 minute walk downhill, 10 minutes back uphill.

Room Tip: Room 407 has a large balcony and is on the top floor.

i have just returned from a weekend at this hotel to celebrate mine and my wife's 40th. i spent a long time looking for the right hotel in the right location. and after reading the reviews on trip TripAdvisor i booked this hotel. as previously mentioned the hotel is a 3 star. the staff are excellent and very helpful. the hotel is clean and the breakfast was enough to see you through the morning. egg bacon, rolls and a variety of pastries but the high light has to be the roof terrace. we went up there every day and just took in the views, it is so peaceful and quiet for such a busy city. there is a bit of a slope to get to it but it is worth the walk. just a few tips if this is your first visit. don't get fooled by all the people trying to sell you tours. get a good book, book early avoid the ques and you will save yourself a lot of money. secondly try and find a small restaurant by the Parthenon called the Taverna del Seminario. you sit inside and not out on the street but we paid 42 euros for a four course authentic Italian meal and a bottle of wine and it was more than worth it, you will struggle to eat it all. if you are undecided about Rome dont be. it is fantastic and this hotel made it perfect. just make sure you wear comfy shoes as you will do loads of walking. . .

Room Tip: Dont stay on the fourth floor under the terrace apparently you hear the people enjoying the views

Stayed here three nights with my mother. The main purpose of the trip was to attend the papal audience so being close to the Vatican was key.

The Alessandrino is excellent of its type. It's a 3 star hotel with no pretensions to a higher rating. Having said that it is clean and well maintained. It has single rooms - important to a middle aged chap travelling with his mother. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was generous without being a spectacular gourmet experience and the lady was happy to crank up the espresso machine as an alternative to the standard vacuum jug coffee.

I would have rated this hotel five out of five but for the terrain which is very steep. The walk up from the main road was very hard on an elderly lady with two artificial hips. That's not the hotel's fault of course but just a word to the wise. If you have fully functioning hips this is a gem of a hotel and very convenient for the Vatican,
