This hotel, and it's team, provide a great experience. The hotel itself is reasonably well located, and you can get into the centre by bus or metro in less than 20 mins. Breakfast is well stocked and varied. WiFi in rooms and access to a PC and printer were really useful, particularly for booking trips to the vatican museum and the like.

The staff on the front desk were outstanding and provided great advice on where to go, what to see, where to eat, etc.

This is what a city hotel should be like - first class.

My wife and I chose this hotel based on price since we were staying in Rome for five days and reviews we found here on Tripadvisor. We were on a 20 days trip around Europe.

Location and getting there, it is located not too far from Fiumicino airport if you take a cab to the hotel, which I recommend you do if you arrive after dark and plan to go straight to the hotel like we should have done. Instead we chose to take the Leonardo express train to Termini train station and then take the subway to the station near the hotel. First of all, the Fiumicino airport is not very traveler friendly and there aren’t many signs as to which way you should head to find the train station (right across the street upon you exit the airport). Second, to purchase the Leonardo express tickets is not simple, there are teller machines you could try and use and a couple stand selling the tickets but will do all their best to sell you a seat on a fast taxi to Termini station, again, we took this offer as it was cheaper than the train and it was 140Kph fast. Once you arrive to the Termini station you can buy the subway tickets at any newspaper stand, at 8pm we only found one open. Bring enough cash since so far we could not pay for these services with our cards. The subway is crowded and it comes by every 4 to 5 minutes. After finally arriving to our station and going up about 5 sets of staircases we arrived to the main avenue, just walk around the corner and arrive to the hotel. On our way back to the airport we paid for the hotel taxi service (about 45 €), it’s totally worth it and at the end cheaper than taking the train and the subway to the hotel (near 90 € for the two of us). Going from the hotel to city center is no issue using the subway and any time. Bonus tip, the pizza place you have to walk pass by to get to the hotel is pretty good, only cash of course, but it’s worth it.

The hotel has very friendly staff ready to welcome you as soon as you walk in the door. The check in process was trouble free and quick. We got our WiFi passwords; you need one for each device and need to be renewed every other day, simply done by asking at the front desk. The room was very clean and had a nice bed with an old style and the walls were kind of thin, since at night you could hear the other guests arriving at their rooms. We could tell the bathroom was recently renovated and very up to date as well as clean with plenty of fresh towels. The breakfast was included in the price; they had scrambled eggs, sausages, ham, cheese, salami, some fruits and NUTELLA, yes a lot of Nutella. The espresso machine they have makes some pretty good coffee. We asked the front desk to book a taxi the night before our departure and they gladly made all the arrangements.

The neighborhood surrounding the hotel seems to be where a blue collar and middle class lives outside of city center. Not a bad thing, but there are no shopping centers or many attractions to see at night. I got pickpocketed walking from the hotel to the subway station by a group of gypsies women sitting outside of a McDonalds, they were about five who surrounded us begging for money and that was it, they snatched 300 euros of my front pocket. Just watch out for gypsies, they are everywhere in Rome, a whole bunch of them at the Termini station. Just avoid them all together.
To round up, the hotel is pretty cozy, comfortable, with great staff and cheap. But the location is something to keep in mind. Take the taxi service they offer on their website, it’s the cheapest and fastest way to get to the hotel.

My husband and I just got back from a 5 night stay at the Aurelius, and we loved it! We paid for small double room but got upgraded to a larger room at check-in which was a nice bonus. The room was very clean with a gorgeous mosaic-tiled bathroom and our bed was turned down every day. The staff were really friendly and helpful - they booked our Vatican tour tickets for us and made great restaurant recommendations. On a couple of days when we had to be up early before breakfast, they let us use the coffee machine and have croissants. The breakfast is really good - plenty to choose from with yoghurts, cereal, cheese and also bacon, sausage, eggs and toast. The hotel feels luxurious for the good value price, and is in a safe location right next to the Cornelia Metro Station, surrounded with shops and restaurants. Overall, we loved the hotel and will definitely be back here next time we are in Rome.

We stayed at Hotel Aurelius during our first stop of our Honeymoon to Italy. We spent 4 nights in Rome and were on the go non-stop seeing everything you could. This hotel is located right by the metro which made getting around very easy! The staff was very helpful answering questions and making recommendations. The hotel itself was clean and cosy. We would recommend it!

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Aurelius in early October. Generally speaking, this was a decent hotel for the price we paid--both avid travelers, we knew what to expect in terms of size, etc. We stayed in room 352, at the very back of the rear building. This was great in that is was quiet at night; however, when it rained, water would gather and eventually seep under our door. Because it only rained for short periods during our stay, it's hard to say whether this would be a major issue in heavier rain. Either way, not a showstopper for us.

In terms of service, our only disappointment occurred the morning of a day-long tour we had booked, which required us at Piazza del Popolo for 7:30am. We were up and ready for 6:30am, and ventured to the lobby in a desperate search for coffee and an easy snack (hot breakfast wasn't starting until 7:30am). The gentleman at the front desk was kind enough to turn on the dining room lights so we could use the coffee machine. However, we were starving and didn't know when we'd eat next, so my partner asked if we might grab a container of yogurt each (which they served every morning) to take with us. The gentleman tapped his watch, shaking his head "no", because breakfast had not yet started. My partner found this only mildly irritating, but I was ticked off (thought neither of us showed it). Long story short, I felt nauseous from hunger by the time I boarded our tour bus at Piazza del Popolo, and after 2 hours of winding roads on an empty stomach, was dry heaving on the side of the road, and missed an exciting part of the tour. I should mention that I have never had motion sickness in my life. I'm not suggesting it's the desk guy's fault, but it was clear we were on our way to a tour, he didn't appear to be doing anything pressing at the time, and it's not as though we were asking him to whip us up an omelette. Sometimes it's the little things that count. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a major fault, but for an average hotel, it's just enough to say that we will not be returning.

Final thought: the gentleman with glasses (not the one mentioned above), who I suspect is the manager, is absolutely lovely. I'm certain he'd have given us 3 yogurts!

Dear Guest,
as many times have written we consider very important to read the comments on Trip Advisor of those who have stayed at our Hotel Aurelius. In this way, in fact, we can continue to improve day by day (in fact we don't think we can still arrived at the top).
As for the breakfast I'm afraid to have been only a misunderstanding by the night porter who, as you wrote, however, had very kindly opened the doors and turned on the light to let you be able to eat something before you go out.
So, if you want, come back again to visit our hotel. Moreover you yourself write that, surely, someone else would give you 3 pots of yogurts...
Thank you very much.

After reading most of the reviews of this hotel, I can say that it is all that I expected and there was no disappointment in any aspect. We took a shuttle from the airport and I thought we'd never arrive since it is not in the center of the city. It is located just around the corner from the Cornelia Metro station which made it very convenient to go back and forth to all of Rome's sites.
The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful.
A small room with double bed was reserved and, indeed, it was small. There was just enough room for the bed, wardrobe, table and a stand for a suitcase that left very little room to walk. The bed was comfortable after a full day of walking. The bathroom seemed to have been recently remodeled and was clean and very nice. While out during the day, I overheard a women state that the shower in her hotel was the size of a phone booth and that pretty much describes the size of the one we had. A large person would not be able to fit in the shower. Perhaps that is a standard size of showers in Roman hotels.? The size of the room was not really a problem for us since all we really needed was a place to sleep.
The breakfast offered enough variety with hot and cold items to get one going for the day. I would caution anyone trying to get "American" coffee from the coffee machine to stand back when filling their cup. The coffee tended to splatter quite a bit when adding water to the cup.
The only issue we had was that since we had a very early departure flight from Rome, we decided it would be safest to use the hotel’s driver/airport service for 50 Euros. Well, the driver was 30 minutes late picking us up and had we not printed our boarding passes out at the hotel we would have missed our flight. It was a very stressful 30 minutes waiting and wondering if the driver would show at all. Anyway we made it to the gate on time and all was well.
Overall I would certainly recommend this hotel based on the cost, location and the friendliness of the staff. It just depends on what type of experience you wish to take from your visit to Rome. If you desire to be out walking at night and to really experience Rome, I would recommend to spend more and stay near the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain area. If you don’t mind a short metro ride-1.5 Euros one way-to all Rome has to offer, then this hotel will work fine.

Dear Guest,
thanks for talking on Tripadvisor about your experience at the Hotel Aurelius.
Yes, it is true, we have rooms of different types depending on the size. And often, when possible, we like to offer guests the opportunity to take advantage of superior rooms. If we come back to find, so ask us if we have greater availability. We like to be able to satisfy our Guests / Friends.
Thank you very much.
