“Great Hotel!”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

We choose River Palace after researching places that were centrally located & received good reviews. We were not disappointed! Even before arriving there, I emailed them about transportation from the airport to them. They set it up for us promptly. We arrived to pleasant & courteous staff members from the bellboy to the desk Clerks. They spoke beautiful English to us & no request was ever too much! Our room was a typical sized European room & tastefully decorated. Every night we had turn down service & a couple of chocolates left on the pillow.
The breakfast which is included was great! You could have yogart or bacon & eggs plus everything else in between! This was our first time in Rome & we scored a touchdown with this hotel! The only negative I can say is that they recommended Green Line Tours which is a definite one to skip. See my review for more on them. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone!!!

Room Tip: We upgraded to a bit larger room for an extra 100 euros for the 7 nights we were there. It was still...

Just back from a 4 day stay here and we loved it. Beautiful room (we stayed in the Suite Villa Borghese, room 801), which was spotlessly clean and well-equipped - 2 TVs, safe, minibar, bathrobes ans slippers, etc. The large bathroom with whirlpool bath was lovely, but the real star of the show was the awesome balcony with superb views. The breakfast is fantastic. The free canapés (which are both plentiful and delicious) and half-price drinks in the lovely bar area from 6-10pm are a wonderful bonus. The location is spot on - less than 100 yards to the metro and tram stop, it is also easy walking distance of the main sites (30 mins from the Vatican and Piazza Navona, 10 from Spanish Steps, 15 from Trevi Fountain, perhaps 40 from the Colusseum, though we jumped on the easy-to-use metro to go there). Plenty of sensibly priced places to eat nearby. The hotel will make recommendations, which we found reliable. All in all, a great hotel.

My husband and I have just returned from Rome, staying 4 nights at the River Palace to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The hotel is beautifully presented, and although our bedroom was quite small, it was very clean and had everything we needed. Each evening, a couple of chocolates were left on our pillow with a card advising what the weather forecast was for the following day. All the reception staff were extremely helpful, booking a trip for us to the vatican and advising where we could get a city bus tour, the location and distance to the main tourist attractions, and even where to get the best souvenirs.
Breakfast was excellent with a large selection of breads, fruit, hams, cheeses and pastries. Tables were also cleared and reset as soon as guests left so the dining room was always tidy.
In the evenings, the bar has happy hour from 6 pm to 10 pm with half price drinks and cocktails - very enjoyable before and after going out for our evening meal. A great selection of snacks were also served each evening.
The hotel location was perfect being just 5 minutes walk from the Piazza de Poppolo, around 15 minutes from the Spanish Steps and 45 minutes walk from the Collosseum. Rome is a great city to walk around as the main attractions are in a fairly compact area, however, there is a Metro station just 2 minutes from the hotel if you would prefer and although we didn't use it, I believe it is pretty easy to navigate.
All in all, we had a fantastic time in Rome, made all the better by this wonderful hotel. We would definitely stay here again next time we are in the city.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and we not disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar had happy hour from 6 to 10 every night with free food. The breakfast was great. We would stay here again for sure.

The River Palace Hotel is perfectly situated near to the Piazza del Poppolo in Rome and a great base for couples exploring the city. The rooms are decadent and superbly clean with lovely bathrooms. There is an excellent array of breakfast treats each morning. Each night the staff take the time to turn down the bed covers, leave chocolates on the pillows and a little card explaining what the weather is expected to be like on the next day. The bar is lovely too and a great place to relax after a day's exploring or somewhere to plan your activities.

We visited in December and whilst the weather was cold, we didn't have to queue for any attractions and enjoyed the festivities in the run up to the Christmas period.

The city is absolutely beautiful with ancient Rome on almost every corner. We walked everywhere from the hotel during our trip and easily reached the sights (Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon) by foot. We took the Metro to reach the Vatican but we visited on our last day and didn't want to risk being late to the airport.

The reception team were fantastic, gave us good maps and even helped us to book a trip to fascinating Pompeii during our stay which was well worth the money and extra travel - a must for anyone interested in architecture and ancient ruins.

If you're looking for a romantic yet affordable hotel to use as a base whilst in Rome then choose the River Palace - you won't be disappointed.

Just got back from a 4 day break with my sisters, we had a fab time the hotel is very clean staff friendly and the cocktail bar is as good as it gets, we felt very safe here. the breakfast is great to get you through the day. The hotel was in the right spot to wonder around the people's square and the Spanish steps, the metro was just at the end of our street this was very handy as there's lots of walking to do,

Room Tip: Rooms are small but cosy just what you would expect for a very old but well kept building

Great location, excellent service, wonderful breakfast - we just loved this hotel and would recommend it tour friends. this has been the only hotel that suggested restaurants that were truly magnificent. Our travel agent in Australia recommended this hotel, and we can't thank the enough.
