I loved this hotel, close to metro, excellent service particularly georgio and antonio. The rooms were not big but that is standard for europe. The bathrooms were very nice and the breakfast (included with rate) is fantastic... Also, there is a little bar that has happy hour with specially priced drinks and appetizers that could fill you up very easily. Finally, there is a great pizza place just steps away on the same street. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at this clean, friendly and well-located hotel on a recent trip to Rome. It's just a couple of blocks away from the very useable metro, which made arriving and leaving the city by train super easy. It's a bit of a hike to big attractions like the Colosseum and Vatican City, but it's an easy lope over to places like Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori and the the sweet Il Popolo square which is great to enjoy the warmth of the sun.

The best part about this hotel, though, was the incredibly generous breakfast. What a treat to wake up and have such a huge selection in a cozy atmosphere. When you're on the go in Rome, it really helps to feel satisfied and fuelled as you set out for the day.

Room Tip: For 20 Euro/night, we upgraded to a deluxe room which was a little more spacious than the standard a...

The River Palace Hotel is an excellent spot for the first time tourist to Rome. We booked the airport transfer at €55, yes I know it sounds a bit steep but local taxis advertise from €45 plus baggage charges and of course, they could add a few miles on the clock – we decided on the fixed rate and couldn't be happier to find our driver waiting for us. Well, it was a holiday! It is a lot cheaper on the train if you feel up to it.

Our standard double room was small, it would be difficult if you travelled with large suitcases – ours were smallish cases and we struggled a bit. The bathroom was neat with good lighting, and a hair-dryer. The room had a safe (free of charge) and in the evening a turn down service with a chocolate and weather report. The bed was queen sized and extremely firm, no I am being polite – it was rock hard. We did have some difficulty obtaining a good sleep even though we exhausted ourselves walking everywhere – but I guess that is a very personal observation. I just know that we could have done with some comfort for our aching limbs.
Breakfast – Fab!
Staff – Happy and mostly helpful - all praise however go to the solitary bar staff (you will see why)
Top tip – Please plan and book your sightseeing before you arrive especially if you are just there for a weekend. The volume of tourists at the weekend is just mad! We stayed from Fri-Wed and found that the queues were so much easier during the weekday (still mad, just not as mad as the weekend).
Would I go back…yes, but I would go for a bigger room and ensure that I had extra pillows for comfort.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor would mean more convenience but potentially noisier - go higher than 1st fl...

We had been recommended this hotel by a good friend and we were really pleased with our 3 night stay (9-12 April). We arrived by taxi and we quickly booked in before being shown to our room on the 3rd floor which overlooked the courtyard and then our bags were brought up to the room. Whilst the room was quite snug, the bathroom was fine and the décor was marble and everything was clean. Complimentary toiletries were provided and the bathroom had a hairdryer. The room had a good sized safe and each night complimentary chocolates were left on our bed together with a weather forecast for the next day.

Breakfast was on the first floor and the food selection was extensive with continental options, bacon, egg, sausage etc as well as fruit, pastries, cakes, cereal etc. This was help yourself and really good value.

Each night we took advantage of the 50% discount on drinks between 6-10pm and the bar was always covered with free snacks such as sandwiches, nibbles, crisps, bruschetta etc.

Every member of staff we came into contact with was incredibly helpful and polite. We booked out early in the morning and the hotel looked after our bags until we returned late afternoon before we got the train back to the airport.

The location is less than 5 mins walk to Flamino metro station and seemed very safe. Other comments have mentioned the lift/elevator situation where you have to go up to the first floor in one and then cross to another for the other floors - it didn't cause us any problems at all.

We can't thank the hotel staff enough for making our first trip to Rome such a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The Classic Double Rooms are very snug - opt for larger if possible

We had our Silver Wedding here and cannot fault the hotel. On arrival we were upgraded to a deluxe room and although the room was 'snug' it had almost everything we wanted except tea and coffee making facilities. The 'free' breakfast was fantastic and allowed us to load up for the day. In the evening happy hour lasted four hours and included free sandwiches and snacks as well as half price drinks. The bed was firm and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. All in all a good hotel and one we will use again. Recommended.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel which we booked directly with the hotel. They had an offer on which meant we only paid for 2 nights as the Sunday night was free. Booking online was easy and correspondence with them via e-mail was very quick. We booked a taxi through them and it was waiting for us at the airport. Unfortunately Alexandro was on holiday but a replacement was sent and we had Alexandro to take us back to the airport on our return. This service was very efficient and saved a lot of time looking for a bus/train to get us to the hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were checked in quickly and given a map and shown where all the main sights were. Colosseum about 30min walk in one direction and Vatican city 30mins in the other direction and everything else was inbetween. We walked everywhere and only caught a taxi once to go back to the colosseum on our last day (15 euro). Our room 102 was a superior room that had a large window overlooking the street and another smaller window that looked down the street towards the piazza del popolo which was lovely and it was not noisy at night as it is not such a main road. We had a kingsize bed with bedside cabinets each side, dressing table, with large mirror above, mini bar which we did not use, large wardrobe with plenty of hangers for us which incorporated a safe which was free and easy to use. The bathroom had a good shower, toilet, bidet, basin, hairdryer, large mirror and shaving mirror, nice white towels and toiletries, although labelled in Italian so I could only recognise the shampoo as it was in english!. The room was spotlessly clean and someone would come in each evening to draw the curtains, turn down the bed and leave chocolates and the weather forcast for the next day on the bed which was a nice touch. There is also a computer room with free internet which is useful. Breakfast was out of this world, everything you could think of was there and this filled us up for most of the day. Happy hour 6-10 meant drinks were half price in the bar 2.50 euro for a beer and 5 euro for a cocktail. All the staff where really friendly and helpful. I got the impression that nothing was too much for them. I would definetely stay here again if I return to Rome

Room Tip: Go for a superior room on the first floor (102) as you only have to take one lift. Higher floors mea...

We lived like Romans for the entire two weeks, never left the Eternal City...A great location near Piazza dal Poppolo... The Metro... Borghese Gardens... Trastevere and Testaccio were easy walks... all of the "must see" sights are within a maximum 1/2 hour walk...the hotel went through a complete renovation a couple of years ago. Clean and comfortable.... the staff is accommodating to a fault! The only suggestion is, unless you are a single, pay the extra euro for an upgrade to a larger room. We are heading back this fall to repeat, and attempt to take in what we missed...
