“An excellent hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

A first class hotel with staff to match. Ideally situated for the main historical sights of Rome, as they are within easy walking distance (apart from the Vatican really). However, it's situated in a quiet side street and therefore you do not get the city noise. Spotlessly clean. Roof bar serves very good, reasonably priced, freshly cooked food from a limited menu. Breakfast is ample and well presented. Honestly, I can find nothing to fault this establishment.

This a fairly large boutique hotel and is located 5 minutes walk from the Colosseum.

The front facade and entrance is very grand and the reception area is impressive.

The room was very clean and neat, rather compact, but functional.

The hotel has a very pleasent roof terrace, which has an alfresco dining facility. The menu was somewhat limited when we stayed and the service was also not as quick and efficient as we would have expected.

The Breakfast Area was very bright and benefitted from a large open terrace area on both sides of the building. Again, the food on offer at breakfast was rather limited in terms of choice, but the service was attentive and friendly.

Room Tip: We found the location of the hotel to be perfect for our needs as first time visitors to Rome. We...

Our room was well appointed, spacious and clean. The staff were very helpful finding local restaurants that served good food at reasonable prices (in my experience no mean feat in Rome, unlike the rest of Italy). The hotel is also very conveniently located for the forum and Colosseo.

My highest praise for Capo d'Africa however is for allowing us to carry over the price we paid for our room after we unfortunately had to cancel our holiday due to illness. Our booking was non-refundable or transferable, but when we e-mailed them to say that we could not stay as booked, they offered to credit the money we paid against a future stay, an offer which we gratefully accepted.

The only element of our stay which was not of fantastic quality was the food at during the day - we ate at the hotel on the day we arrived as it was mid afternoon and we wanted something to eat quickly. The lunch menu was largely uninspired, reheated frozen food, that even then was prepared badly and yet was fairly expensive, particularly for what you were getting. This was a little surprising as breakfast was lovely, as indeed were the views at breakfast, from the balcony to the right of the restaurant room. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening and I suspect that the poor lunch menu reflects the fact that the chefs don't work then. The stay was stlil so good in all other respects though that it still gets a rating of 5/5 from me.

We found this hotel around 4 hours before we were due to leave home for the airport so I was nervous it wouldn't deliver on my usual meticulous checks. However the traveller photos showed a super clean, well kept place, and as we were planning to spend a lot of time walking around Rome we took the chance.

It was one of our favourite places to stay, highlights:
- Super clean, and meticulous room attendance
- Friendly, helpful staff
- Breakfast on the rooftop/drinks there in the evening
- Perfect location - views of the colloseum at breakfast, but on a quiet road, 5 minutes walk from the metro station

Although the hotel didn't seem fully booked (it is quiet around now in August) they did not cut corners, breakfast is served from around 6am - 11am, and even when we turn up at 10:55, they are happy to make fresh eggs, or check that all the drinks etc are topped up with perfect service and courtesy. If you are a health freak, the food is great, with a great mix of 0% yoghurts, fruits, wholegran cereals as well as the usual cheese, bacon, pastries etc.

The gym downstairs is well equipped, and the room amenities are the same as in a Hilton or similar, vanity kits, generous with products, robes and slippers provided. You can choose to watch movies etc like any large hotel too in the room, which due to the superhot weather, we ended up doing on a day it was too hot to venture out.

One of the best parts, on checkout when hotels seem to charge for every last thing, they were extremely conservative, for example didn't charge the day rate for WIFI (5 Euros per day, but very fast and reliable) when I had used it for a couple of hours. It's exactly why I would stay here time and time again as it's what you want from a hotel, clean, near town but not noise

Room Tip: Naumachia, this restaurant is 2 minutes around the corner, and of all the places in Rome this was ea...

We spent four days in Rome and chose Capo D'Africa on the basis of many positive reviews on Tripadvisor. And thanks to all the other reviewers because it was a great choice.

The location is excellent - 5 minutes walk from the Colloseum & Metro with views of the Colloseum from the upstairs bar & dining area. There are alot of nice restaurants and bars nearby and its close to "gay street" if that takes your fancy.

The room was quite large and spacious, large bathroom and very clean. The staff were very friendly and willing to help.

I highly recomend you consider this hotel if travelling to Rome.

A very nice place to stay. Very clean and very light and bright. The location is a bit strange as its on a back street away from the busy streets, but this is great if you want to get away from the hussel and bussel of the busy roads and streets or rome.

The hotel rooms are lovely, very clean and very bright, i would say that they look very new, but im sure thats not all room as i did have a little nose around when i was there too see the different types of room that were available. See below my top about not letting them upgrade you.

The restaurant was BASIC, but nice and the food was ok, breakfast was the typical continental and was lovely i have to say. The restaurant looks out onto a roof terrance and when its really sunny this is amazing. Really quite pretty. Looks out over most of rome.

The metro isn't far form the hotel, 5 or 6 mins walk and so although apart from being next to the colosseum, the other Rome attracts are easy to get too. The reception and staff there did everything they could to help us get around, i cant thank them enough.

Would recommend! :D

Room Tip: Dont let them upgrade you, its just the same room with an etra metre by a metre. Really not worth th...

Having just spent 4 nights here, I can say that the staff are warm, polite, friendly and speak good English. On arrival we were given a map and the staff member circled our location and where all the 'sites' were.
5minutes walk to the Colleseum, Imperial Forum, 20 minutes walk to the Trevi Fountain (ish
Excellent good priced restuarants and cafes nearby, 50 Euros instead of the 90 you will pay up near the main tourist sites.
My top tip is to go to the Palentine, spend 12 Euros and get a joint ticket for here, the Forum and the Collesum. It allows you to go straight into the Collesum (when you see the lines at the ticket office you will be glad you did this!)
The ticket is valid for 24hrs so you dont have to do it all in one go.
The roof terrace for breakfast and evening drinks is relaxing and has a great view of the top of the Colleseum.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again should I return to Rome

Room Tip: the private terraces are nice but as you spend most the day out in the city, unless you wish to spen...
